Although they’re dancing with demons, witches are nothing for a child of God to fear.

The new direction in my ministry has been to act as God’s Secret Weapon, and specifically breaking down witchcraft strongholds. The Lord has given me specialized discernment for spotting witches and witchcraft.

This is most definitely not something that I have ever asked for. In fact, many years ago I was running away from God, and saw so many demons that I begged Him to take the discernment away—I didn’t want to see them anymore. In my immaturity and rebellion, I neither yielded to God nor used this gifting for the Kingdom.

On this trip to Texas many people have asked about this new direction, which got me thinking about what it all means. So I asked the Lord: “Why are You using me to come against witchcraft?” He answered with the following:

Rebellion is like the sin of sorcery, (1 Samuel 15:23a, CJB).

And explained that I was such a rebel when I was young that it was important to use me to break witchcraft strongholds. Of course, if I said no, He would easily find someone else to do this work. God doesn’t need me. It is I who need God. The importance of using me to break witchcraft strongholds is not only for the benefit of His Kingdom on earth, but primarily important for me as a former rebel. Submitting myself, my life, my time, and my finances to serving God in this work breaks all the rebellious patterns of my past. It is an opportunity to enjoy ever-greater blessing in my life.

It occurs to me that most people know very little about witchcraft. I am not advocating studying witchcraft or any of the defeated enemy’s methods. We should instead become more and more familiar with the Bible and everything that God says because God’s Word is the most effective antidote to witchcraft or any other method of the defeated enemy. Nevertheless, it is useful to understand a few things that the defeated enemy’s minions are up to.

Let’s define a few terms—and notice how many of these are direct satanic counterfeits to something Biblical or holy:

Witchcraft / Sorcery – The practice of magic, and invocation of spirits[1]—let’s call them what they are: demons. I have checked several witchcraft websites, and they universally state that the difference between witchcraft and sorcery is intent: witchcraft is intended for good, while sorcery is intended for evil. In reality, intent doesn’t matter. The Bible is very clear on the fact that it is all evil[2]. And it all opens your life to demonic interference, oppression, and possibly possession.

In the spirit realm there are God’s holy angels, evil fallen angels, and demons, which are the disembodied spirits of the nephilim. Nothing else inhabits the spirit realm. Since they lost their bodies at death (the majority of them in the Genesis flood), they have one overwhelming desire and goal: to find another body to inhabit. When you invoke a demon you are giving it permission to interfere in your life—any and every part of your life: your health, your finances, your loved ones, everything becomes subject to demonic interference. And the demon will seek to inhabit your body (possess it). If that fails, they will seek out the weakest member of your family to inhabit. The price of witchcraft or any other occultic practice is terribly high and possibly eternal.

In a nutshell, the motivation behind witchcraft is always power, and the means is always through the use of a demon or demons. The specific power sought is the power to make others do what the witch want them to do—fall in love with them, for example, or make a decision in their favor, or even die. It’s often effective because demons are master manipulators, whispering suggestions into the ear of the subject. If done often enough, it can begin to sound like the person’s own thoughts, and eventually they are likely to act upon the demonic suggestion.

All the rest of the following terms are used in the practice of witchcraft and/or sorcery.

Incantation or Spells – The use of spells (verbal charms) are spoken as a part of ritual magic. They can also be a written or recited formula of words designed to invoke the help of spirits (demons). When these words are recited or sung with rhythmic drums and/or music, the effect is heightened because the rhythm can lull the witch and/or listeners into a trance. This trance makes it easier for demons to enter a person. Rock or Rap music is a powerful way that the defeated enemy uses to indoctrinate the youth.

Muslims use incantation five times a day in the “call to prayer” blasted loudly and continuously for over half an hour from atop the minarets each day.

Incantation is the satanic counterfeit to singing worship songs or praying Bible verses to invite the Holy Spirit’s presence.

Sigils – Sigils are magic symbols, and symbology has always been very important in the occult. Medieval ceremonial magic used the term sigil to refer to occult signs which represented various demon spirits which the magician could summon. In other words, sigils were used as a way of calling a particular demon by using its written name. There are magical training books called grimoires that list these sigils.

Common witchcraft sigils are the pentagram (five-pointed star) and the Sigils are a satanic counterfeit to holy symbols like the cross.

It’s all satanic–that’s what they either don’t know or don’t want you to know.

Potions – The picture in your mind of a witch stirring a caldron over a fire is largely symbolic these days, and used only in rituals. However, with or without caldrons, the making of potions remains central to witchcraft. Potions are sometimes used in conjunction with spells. They are mixtures formulated to heal, enslave, or even poison people. This is the satanic counterfeit to natural healing poultices and anointing oils.

The Greek word φαρμακεία (pharmakeia) is the word that the English pharmacy or pharmaceutical comes from. It appears twice in the Bible: Galatians 5:20 and Revelation 18:23. It is variously translated as sorcery, witchcraft, and drug use in some of the more modern translations. I heard a well-known prophet declare that America is under the dominion of the pharmakeia spirit, and I believe it. There are a few medical doctors that are not in essence pill-pushers, and it’s not necessarily the fault of the doctors, since the major medical journals are financed by the pharmaceutical industry.

There are also vaccines designed not to prevent disease (as they were in the beginning), but to actually spread disease (see Georgia on My Mind). Vaccines are a form of potion.

I believe that making synthetic seeds (see Meet Me in St. Louis) is also a satanic / witchcraft form of potion. Why do we need to replace God’s perfect creation with a GMO synthetic frankenseed? At first I was going to say that the only possible reason is profits, but just two paragraphs ago, I stated that potions are made to heal, enslave, or poison people. So profits are just the icing on the satanic cake. Have you ever wondered why so many people have gluten allergies when they used to be a very rare thing?

The abuse of both legal and illegal drugs is epidemic in this country. I am one of the few people my age[3] who is not taking prescription medication on a daily basis. All of these different kinds of potions are a satanic counterfeit for prayer and anointing the sick with oil[4].

Magic Wand – A wand is a specially crafted stick to which a demon has become attached. It is used by waving or drawing circles in order to focus demonic energy and thus empower witchcraft. Waving a wand is called “dirtying the air.” Pharaoh’s magicians, Jannes and Jambres, had staffs, which were essentially magic wands[5]—satanic counterfeits to the staff of Aaron.

Holy Days – This should really be termed unholy days except that holy means set apart. In many of the following witchcraft holidays you will see how they have hijacked the original Judeo-Christian holidays. Whenever you see an eight-pointed star (often inside a circle) it is the witchcraft symbol for the wheel of the year, and includes all of the following except the witches’ sabbath:

• The witches’ sabbath is a meeting of witches which may include a feast, dancing, and sexual intercourse. It is often at midnight, out in the woods, and may include nudity. The witches’ sabbath is a satanic counterfeit to the Lord’s Sabbath.
• The winter solstice (called yule or yuletide) is a celebration of the rebirth of the great horned hunter god—the “newborn” solstice sun. The horned god is depicted as a man with antlers or sometimes the head of a reindeer. The winter solstice is a satanic counterfeit to the Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah), the Feast of Lights[6].
• Brigid’s Day, also called imbolc or imbolg, is celebrated at the astronomical midpoint between the winter solstice and spring equinox or the closest full moon. The covens celebrate goddesses (female demons) with rites and initiations for female members of a coven. It is also a time of weather divination much like Groundhog Day in America, and usually falls between the first and fourth of February.
• Easter, also called ēostre or ostara, is celebrated at the spring equinox. The earth mother goddess (demon) is said to bring renewal and rebirth from the death of winter, and it is celebrated using eggs, flowers, and rabbits as symbols. This is the satanic counterfeit to Resurrection Day.
• Modern neo-pagan witches, called wiccans, celebrate beltane or beltain as a May Day fertility celebration—one of the great holy days. There is maypole dancing and a ritual union of the May lord (the horned god, above) and May lady (the pagan triple goddess). The triple goddess is artemis, the maiden, represented by the waxing moon; selene, the mother, represented by the full moon; and hecate, the crone, represented by the waning moon.
• The midsummer, litha, or summer solstice is the longest day of sunlight in the year, and is celebrated throughout the world in a variety of local customs. Most include a bonfire.
• August Eve, lammas, or lughnasadh is the first of the three wiccan harvest festivals. Celebrations vary because not all neo-pagans are wiccans, and there is no uniform theology among them. Many mark the holiday baking a figure of the owl god (demon) in bread and eating it, to symbolize the importance of the harvest. Sometimes a square loaf of bread is used and a quarter broken off at each of four corners of a barn. This is the satanic counterfeit to the celebration of First Fruits in Judaism.
• The autumnal equinox celebration of mabon is a modern pagan ritual of thanksgiving for the harvest. It is celebrated by sharing in order to secure the blessings of the triple goddess (above) and the horned god during the coming winter months. This is a satanic counterfeit to the Feast of Tabernacles in Judaism.
• The high holy day, and one of the four greater sabbaths in witchcraft / satanism / neo-paganism is samhain (pronounced SAW-win). It is considered a time to pay respect to dead ancestors, family members, friends, pets, and other loved ones. In some rituals the spirits of the departed (in reality demons) are invited to attend the festivities. It is considered a festival of darkness, and believed to be the time when the veil between this world and the afterlife is at its thinnest, making communication with the dead (in reality demons) easier. It is typically celebrated on October 31 through November 1. Most of the elements of halloween came from this pagan holiday: apple bobbing, jack-o-lanterns, costumes, trick-or-treating, and bonfires[7].

Ritual Dancing – Dance is used in rituals as another way to invoke the help of spirits. The coven (group of witches) agrees on the purpose of the dance, some play rhythmic music or just drums, while the rest dance in a circle. Often there is a bonfire or a sigil etched into the soil or chalked onto the floor at the center of the dance circle—usually a pentagram (five-pointed star). This is the satanic counterfeit to holy dancing as in 2 Samuel 6:14 when David danced before the Lord to celebrate bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.

Divination or Clairvoyance – Seeking to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers. This is the satanic counterfeit to prophecy.

Psychic Powers or ESP – If these demonic powers are not inherited through the family tree, the demons or familiar spirits may have been invited into the person by dabbling in the occult or witchcraft. These are a satanic counterfeit to words of knowledge.

Necromancy – Speaking with the dead is actually speaking with demons. They have been around a long time, so they are very clever, and they can mimic your dead grandmother, the Virgin Mary[8], or whoever. Likewise, séances invoke demons. There is no such thing as ghosts[9]. Make no mistake, these things are real and what they are is demons. You will never get the truth from a demon. Praying to a dead saint is no different from the witchcraft / satanic practice of necromancy. This is a satanic substitute to praying directly to God, as Jesus instructed us to do (John 15:16).

Numerology – The study of the significance and use of numbers that invoke the help of spirits. Witches will use numerology to add demonic power to chants or names. This is the satanic counterfeit to gematria[10], which is used to bring a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

Astrology and Horoscopes – Many of the constellations are named in the Bible, mostly in the book of Job, the oldest book of the Bible. Understand that there is a big difference between astrology and astronomy: astrology is looking to the stars for guidance, and therefore is sinful[11]. Astronomy is the study of the heavenly bodies, and there is nothing sinful about studying God’s creation.

Here’s something interesting to consider when thinking of astrology and horoscopes: the Bible clearly states that when lucifer (the defeated enemy) fell, he took a third of the angels with him (the stars are called the sons of God—angels)[12]. And in the Revelation, John observed that at the fourth trumpet a third of the stars were darkened[13]. Does this help you understand exactly who astrologers are consulting? Astrology and numerology are used in witchcraft and satanism for planning dates for events. Astrology is a satanic counterfeit to seeking God in prayer for help in planning for the future.

Power Places / Ley Lines – There are certain places on the earth that host demonic presences, known as power places. Most often these power places are found where there is a certain magnetic energy, and often there is a portal to another dimension[14]. These power places have most often been constructed by human sacrifice, and they lie on the earth is such a way that when connected by an imaginary line, they line up to form satanic power grids or ley lines[15]. Power places are the satanic counterfeit to the Temple Mount, which God promised would be His footrest, where His presence would be found on earth[16].

Architecture – There are certain structures that can play host to demons, the pyramid, for example. There is a lot of satanic architecture built into Washington DC. Occultic architecture is the satanic counterfeit to holy architecture, like the Tabernacle of Moses[18].

Images – Paintings and statues are images that can also host demons. Have you ever seen a statue seem to move? Think about how creepy it is when a painting “follows” you with its eyes. That creepy feeling is your God-given radar to reveal a demonic presence. Is it any wonder that the second commandment says:

You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them, (Deuteronomy 5:7-9).

Even though you don’t worship the image, God very clearly says not to even make an image.

Weaponry – According to the book of Enoch[19], the making of weapons was taught to mankind by azazel, one of the angels who rebelled against God, raped human women, and fathered the nephilim (see also makeup, below).

Freemasonry – The initiation into the first degree of the masons is virtually identical with the initiation into witchcraft, according to John Todd[20]. Any secret society is suspect: skull and bones, illuminati, masons, witchcraft covens, etc. Those who are initiated into their secrets often are instructed to call down curses upon themselves and their children if they ever reveal the secrets. The only reason to hide these things is because their secret is occult (which literally means hidden). In the case of the masons, the secret that they are hiding is that their so-called great architect of the universe (jabulon) is in reality lucifer, the defeated enemy.

Spirit Cooking – A performance artist who is a disciple of satanist Aleister Crowley has made cannibalistic cakes that she claims are art. She supposedly had a private session with Hillary Clinton just before the election. If you’re curious and have a strong stomach, you can watch the video, but be warned: it is graphic.

Magick – Satanist Aleister Crowley used this spelling of the word magic to differentiate it from illusionist’s sleight of hand. Now there are several famous magicians who are suspected of using demons help to do magic. This is the satanic counterfeit to miracles.

Makeup and Seduction – In the 1700’s the British Parliament passed a law against women wearing lipstick because of its association with witchcraft. Women who seduced men into marriage through the use of cosmetics could be found guilty of sorcery. According to an article I recently read, beauty spells and magical treatments can range from glamour spells, to drawing a sigil (magic symbol) in the eyeshadow, to concocting a bath scrub using essential oils and herbs to celebrate the new moon—like a spa treatment. According to the Book of Enoch, the art of makeup was taught to humans by the fallen angels that fathered the nephilim.

The most disturbing fact about witchcraft is the infiltration of witches into the Church. Some are people who don’t realize that what they’re doing is witchcraft—unwitting witchcraft. Derek Prince said that anywhere that you see manipulation, intimidation, and domination in the church, that’s witchcraft.

But there are others—many others—who have been deliberately planted in their local churches by their covens with the express purpose of destroying the church. Most often the target is the pastor, specifically his or her marriage. We in the church tend to believe that most, if not all of the other regular attenders in our church are saved and like us are “working out their salvation with fear and trembling[21].” This naïveté has opened the church to many abuses by witches and satanists.

The list of terms above is by no means a complete or comprehensive list. And the idea behind defining these terms is so that God’s people can be aware the next time they see something that somehow doesn’t quite “feel right.” That feeling is your Holy Spirit early warning system, and should never be ignored. If you feel that about someone in your life or in your church leadership, perhaps someone who is especially close friends with the pastor, prayerfully consider that witchcraft could be afoot. If you suspect a witch in your church, pray. Do not talk about your suspicions with others in the church.

The best and safest response in all cases of witchcraft is to take it all to the Lord in prayer. And ask the Holy Spirit for prayer strategies for your particular situation. A former witch told a friend of mine that it takes about thirty witchcraft incantations to build a certain satanic “atmosphere.” And it only takes one Christian prayer to break it. Never forget that we are on the winning side, with everything working to our advantage. God is good!
