My mother is looking for the lyrics of a song she sang in the Girl Scouts. (That would be in the 40s.) It began, "If there were witchcraft, I'd make three wishes. " She doesn't know the official title, but it's probably some words from that line. Anyway, she'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could post complete lyrics and any information on the composer. And are Girl Scouts still singing it?

We were still singing it in late 50s to early 60s. I will look for it/think on it for more words. One wish was for a winding road beckoning me to roam.

Witchcraft
(by Margarett Snyder)

If there were witchcraft I'd make two wishes,
A winding road that beckons me to roam,
And then I'd wish for a blazing campfire,
To welcome me when I'm returning home.

But in this real world there is no witchcraft,
And golden wishes do not grow on trees.
Our fondest daydreams must be the magic
To bring us back these happy memories.

Mem'ries that linger, constant and true,
Mem'ries we cherish, - - - * of you.

It is in Sing! from the American Camping Association and Camp Songs "n" Things which was published in 1939.

Just in case it's not clear in the lyrics "Sue" posted above..the dashes in the last line are for the name of the camp.

I dunno about that, Dipso. the popularity of the Harry Potter books shows that girls (as well as boys) have their own affinity to witchcraft. Makes me think that this song was more geared to the sensibility of little girlies' parents and teachers who expect them to grow up and tow the line, and not upset the applecart.

Phooey! I was hoping it was a new merit badge!

Yeah, I was too. or at least a song to sing around the campfire about learning to be witches.

When is an island big enough to be "in" rather than "on" it?

ON Anglesey, and Corsica, but IN Sri Lanka. (Or is it still "on" the island but "in" the country?"

Giant song that I remember. "Once a giant came a-wandering, late at night when the world was still; seeking for a stoop to sit on he climbed a little green hill. Giant, giant I am under you, move or this is the end of me; but the giant answered, thank you, I like it here don't you see.
That's all I remember. my brother used to sing it.

I attended a Camp Fire Girl camp--Camp Kitanawa--in 1958 & 1959 located near Battle Creek, Michigan. Our version, as my friend and I remember it, went like this:

If there were witchcraft I'd make two wishes
A winding trail that beckons me to roam
And then I'd wish for a blazing campfire
To welcome me when I'm returning home.
Memories which linger, constant and true
My fondest memories are of Kitanawa and you.

This song brings back so many wonderful memories!

Just found the following at http://www.camplightfoot.org/songs/generalsongs.htm

If there were witchcraft,
I'd make two wishes
A winding road that beckons me to roam.
And then I'd wish for a blazing campfire
To welcome me when I'm returning home.
But in this real world, there is no witchcraft
And golden wishes never grow on trees.
Our fondest daydreams must be the magic
To bring us back happy memories
Mem'ries that linger, constant and true
Mem'ries we cherish, campers friends, of you.

I need no witchcraft
To tread the old trail
'Neath whisp'ring trees to where a camp fire burns;
No magic crystal to bring before me.
Dear campers scenes on pages time has turned.
For oft in firelight my mem'ry traces
The forms of campers' friends who gathered there;
I see them stand with uplifted faces
And hear again the Indian tribal prayer.
Mem'ries that linger, constant and true
Mem'ries we cherish, campers' friends, of you.

Speaking incantation spell

This rhythmic chanting helps to create a focused and altered state of consciousness, allowing the spellcaster to tap into their own inner power and connect with the forces of the universe. The sound and vibration of the words, combined with the intention and visualization of the spellcaster, are believed to amplify the effectiveness of the spell. In addition to the words themselves, the intention and belief of the spellcaster play a crucial role in the success of an incantation spell. The spellcaster must truly believe in the power of the words they are speaking and the outcome they are trying to manifest. Doubt or lack of faith can hinder the effectiveness of the spell. Speaking incantation spells is often accompanied by other magical practices, such as the use of ritual tools, symbols, and gestures. These additional elements help to further enhance the energy and focus of the spell. For example, a spellcaster may use a wand or athame to direct their intent, or they may draw specific symbols or sigils to amplify the desired outcome. It is important to note that speaking incantation spells should always be done with respect and caution. Magic is a powerful force and should not be taken lightly. It is important to have a clear understanding of the potential consequences and ethical considerations before casting any spell. In conclusion, speaking incantation spells is a practice that has been used by various cultures and traditions throughout history. The words, intention, and belief of the spellcaster, combined with additional magical practices, all contribute to the effectiveness of the spell. However, it is important to approach this practice with respect and caution, understanding the potential power and consequences involved..

Reviews for "The Role of Speaking Incantation Spells in Witchcraft and Magick"

1. Emily - 2/5 stars - I was really disappointed with "Speaking Incantation Spell". The concept seemed interesting, but the execution fell flat for me. The writing felt forced and unnatural, and I had a hard time connecting with the characters. Additionally, the plot was predictable and lacked depth. Overall, I found it to be a mediocre read that didn't live up to my expectations.
2. James - 1/5 stars - "Speaking Incantation Spell" was a complete waste of time for me. The story was overly cliché, with no originality or unique twists. The characters were one-dimensional and lacked any depth, making it impossible for me to care about their fate. The writing style was also choppy and awkward, making it a struggle to get through. I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for a captivating and engaging read.
3. Sarah - 2/5 stars - I had mixed feelings about "Speaking Incantation Spell". While the premise had potential, I found the pacing to be uneven, with slow moments that dragged on and abrupt jumps in the narrative. The characters felt underdeveloped and lacked depth, making it hard to invest emotionally in their journey. The world-building was also lacking, leaving me with more questions than answers. Overall, it had some interesting ideas but failed to deliver a satisfying reading experience.
