The Sennentuntschi Curse and Its Modern-day Effect on Swiss Tourism

By admin

The Sennentuntschi Curse of the Alps is a legend that dates back to the 19th century in the Swiss Alps. It revolves around a cursed doll-like figure, known as the Sennentuntschi, which is said to bring misfortune and tragedy to those who encounter it. According to the legend, the Sennentuntschi was created by lonely mountain farmers, known as "senn" in the local dialect. These farmers, living in remote alpine areas, would fashion a doll out of straw and cloth in order to fulfill their desires and alleviate their loneliness. They would dress the doll in traditional clothing and give it a name, treating it as a companion. However, the legend takes a darker turn when the farmers' desires and frustrations turn into anger and resentment.

However, the legend takes a darker turn when the farmers' desires and frustrations turn into anger and resentment.
