However, the binding can also be cut, or may fade, in some rare circumstances: if one becomes a Downworlder, if one leaves their life as a Shadowhunter to be with a mundane, or if one is stripped of their Marks and becomes a mundane, and if one is exiled, its enchantments and formal ceremony lessening ones' Nephilim magic, gradually weakening the bond.
Because Shadowhunters aren t meant to wield magic, and because the rune and ceremony was created by man and not by Heaven, the rune has a dangerous corruption. If two Shadowhunters chose to sever their bond, they must participate in a special ceremony in the Silent City using their blood, an especially forged blade, and the magic of a Silent Brother.

I know I’m certainly looking forwards to more reading, even though I do it everyday anyway, there’s something so nice about reading on a weekend…maybe it’s just me and I’m weird, yep. I think I’m weird. Okay…moving on!
Today I’m here with my Top 5 Favourite Shadowhunter Runes.
Anyone that knows me knows I love the Shadowhunters. The whole world, the characters and everything about Shadowhunters I love. I actually want to get some rune tattoos and you’ll see which ones in this post.
So without further ado…
Runes , also known as Marks, are symbols that grant beings various supernatural abilities, with both angelic and demonic runes known to exist. For Shadowhunters , runes are a complex runic language given to them by the Angel Raziel, which grants them powers beyond those of mundanes.
My top 5 favourite runes are…
– Angelic Power Rune
The Rune is typically bestowed upon a Shadowhunter at the end of his/her training through a Rune Ceremony . The ceremony is attended by the Shadowhunters’ loved ones or trainers, and the rune is placed on them by a Silent Brother .
– Fearless Rune
The Fearless rune completely eliminates the prospect of fear from the wearer. It literally makes the user afraid of nothing.
– Strength Rune
The Strength rune gives Shadowhunters a short but intense burst of increased physical strength. It is incredibly short-lived and must be reapplied after each use.
– Parabatai/Friendship Rune
A parabatai is a pair of Nephilim warriors who fight together as lifelong partners, bound together by oath, regardless of their gender. Their bond is not reflected only in their closeness and willingness to lay down their lives for one another, but also in oath—one sworn in front of the Council .

There are several variations of healing runes used by Shadowhunters.
Runes such as these can heal grievous, possibly fatal wounds, enabling healing without causing harm or distress. This is the second rune gifted to the Nephilim by the Angel Raziel and the is also the second most powerful rune in Nephilim lexicography.
The first most basic healing and pain-killing rune is the iratze, which closes cuts and wounds in Shadowhunters. It alleviates pain, closes cuts and wounds and temporarily raises the temperature, helping burn out infection much like a fever does. It can also be used in case of minor health concerns or illnesses such as headaches. This rune glows golden when first used before sinking into the skin, not even leaving a scar behind like average Marks.
I was going to get a Parabatai Rune tattoo with my now ex-best friend. But I really want an Iratze, I just love it.
