HOW GENERATIONAL CURSES AFFECTS SUCCESS

My name is Rading Biko Gerro, am a father, a loving husband and a Journalist by profession.
My life has been a journey full of ups and downs but I thank the Almighty God for His protection,I remember in 2009 when I had just cleared college and was planning to join University of Nairobi for my degree in Journalism and Media Studies,I had gotten several job interviews and each time i was just about to append my signature for a contract something will always crop up making me miss the opportunity. You can imagine how frustrating it can be when a well paying job slippy through your figures.

I went to my father seeking for answers but all I got from him was not satisfying enough to convince me. So I thought that perhaps it was destined for me to be live like that, BUT thank God for my beautiful wife Juliet who saw that something was not right and she suggested something that sounded rather stupid at that time but now i understands."Maybe its your roots "she said, her answer almost sparked a quarrel between us but she insisted that unless i deal with it now there will be no success in life.
Ladies and gentlemen you may wonder why I am telling you all these and of what helps will it create in your life .
Each and every one of us is going through what I went through but we all keep saying its normal…HELLL NOOOOO…Why is it that those who were performing poorly in schools are more successful in life than you yet you have graduated with distinctions and you have been looking for a job for the last 5 or more years, to add salt into your injuries even those who were behind you in college are doing better.
Brothers and sisters, someone in your lineage sold you out and that’s why your life is just there and you think its normal……OOOOOOOH it’s not.
The truth of the matter is that there is generational curse that was laid upon your lineage and unless you break it then even your children will suffer even more worse than you are.

When I sat down with a servant of God who explained the effects of the generational curse and how it affects our lives that we end up not fulfilling our desired goals in life, I thought you people should know about it.

What does the Bible say about breaking generational curses?
The Bible mentions “generational curses” in several places (Exodus 20:5; 34:7; Numbers 14:18; Deuteronomy 5:9). God warns that He is “a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.”

It sounds unfair for God to punish children for the sins of their fathers. However, there is more to it than that.
The effects of sin are naturally passed down from one generation to the next. When a father has a sinful lifestyle, his children are likely to practice the same sinful lifestyle. Implied in the warning of Exodus 20:5 is the fact that the children will choose to repeat the sins of their fathers.
A Jewish Targum specifies that this passage refers to “ungodly fathers” and “rebellious children.” So, it is not unjust for God to punish sin to the third or fourth generation – those generations are committing the same sins their ancestors did.

The cure for a generational curse has always been repentance. When Israel turned from idols to serve the living God, the “curse” was broken and God saved them (Judges 3:9, 15; 1 Samuel 12:10-11). Yes, God promised to visit Israel’s sin upon the third and fourth generations, but in the very next verse He promised that He would show “love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments” (Exodus 20:6). In other words, God’s grace lasts a thousand times longer than His wrath.

SOLUTIONS TO SOLVING THE PROBLEM

IDENTIFY THE CURSE. In order to get set free and stay free, you have to admit you have a problem. That sounds simple, but we live in a day and age of denial. No matter what has happened to us in our lives, each of us are responsible for the choices and decisions we make. If you really want to be free, you will accept that responsibility.

  1. BREAK THE CURSE. As we apply God's Word and power to our lives, and as we choose to walk in righteousness and obedience to God, the chains of bondage will be broken. There are three steps to breaking a generational curse:
  2. (1) Give your life to Jesus; the blood of Jesus removes our sin; (2) Fight the battle with spiritual weapons (such as the Word of God and the armor of God); and (3) Regain control over the power of your will. When Jesus shed His blood, he bought back our willpower. Through the blood of Jesus, we can say no.
  3. REVERSE THE CURSE.There are three keys you can use to reverse the curse and live in victory: (1) Recognize your enemy. We battle not with flesh and blood. Our enemy is Satan, and the battle is spiritual. (2) Forgive people who have hurt you. (3) Treat causes, not symptoms (for example, insecurity, jealousy or fear).
  4. RELEASE THE POWER OF LOVE. To become people whose lives are transformed by the love of God, we must not only get rid of what holds us captive and keeps us in bondage, but we must also be filled up with love--for God, for self and for others. Unconditional love will release blessing. To know more of the love of God in your life, love those who have hurt you, those who have opposed you and those who have sinned against you.
  5. DEVELOP A GODLY ATTITUDE. A good attitude does not make everything go perfectly all the time. Matthew 5:45 tells us that God sends the rain on the just and the unjust. But our attitude determines whether the rain will water the seeds of our harvest or wash those seeds away. Get serious about where you are going with God by getting your attitude lined up with His Word, having faith and trusting in Him.
  6. ALIGN YOUR WORDS WITH GOD'S WORDS. Your words give evidence of your faith, and they should reflect God's good purposes for you. Exchange your negative words for positive words, exchange your negative thoughts for positive thoughts, and exchange your negative actions for positive actions.
  7. ACCEPT GOD'S ACCEPTANCE. Jesus didn't come to condemn us or punish us. He came to give us hope that our lives really can be different. We don't have to live under the burdens of pain, hurt, shame or sorrow. All the power in heaven is available to you to set you free from every chain that binds you. Corrie ten Boom said, "There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still."
  8. WALK IN OBEDIENCE.In order to break free from the curses and walk in freedom, you must learn to walk in obedience to God's ways. We don't have to be perfect or without mistakes, but our hearts need to be surrendered and pliable toward God. We need to be moving forward in the things of God every day of our lives. Today's decisions determine our tomorrows. There is a miracle on the other side of your obedience.

For the Christian who is worried about a generational curse, the answer is salvation through Jesus Christ. A Christian is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). How can a child of God still be under God’s curse (Romans 8:1)? The cure for a “generational curse” is repentance of the sin in question, faith in Christ, and a life consecrated to the Lord (Romans 12:1-2).
