I recently had the most captivating and enchanting experience at a magical riveting show. The evening began with a mysterious entrance into a dimly lit theater that immediately transported me to a world of fantasy and wonder. The stage was adorned with dazzling lights and ornate decor, setting the perfect ambiance for the upcoming performance. As the curtains lifted, a mesmerizing display of magic unfolded before my eyes. The magician effortlessly performed jaw-dropping illusions, leaving the audience in awe and disbelief. As in years past, engaging sessions and workshops and a host of networking events are among the assortment of experiences that participants can expect to enjoy. While riveting keynotes from renowned news correspondent and documentary filmmaker Yalda Hakim and photographer Jimmy Nelson will provide food for thought on how international education can play a part in a better future for the world.

Four days, a full spectrum of possibilities

With such a wide range of conference activities on offer, it can be hard to choose how to spend these four precious days with your community. Here are some of this year’s highlights to make it easier.

Tuesday 13 September : Take advantage of this pre-conference day to get a head start on learning and networking. Choose from nine practical workshops, meet new people at speed-networking sessions, brush up on your internationalisation basics or get a taste of the Catalan higher education system by joining one of 11 Campus Experiences. Join other eco-minded participants for an afternoon of networking while beautifying one of Barcelona’s beaches. Finally, kick off the conference by savouring true Spanish hospitality at the largest networking event of the week, the Opening Reception.

Wednesday 14 September : Opening plenary keynote speaker Yalda Hakim will inspire with her experiences as a journalist in some of the world’s most war-torn states, reflecting on what is happening in the world today. The first day of the EAIE Exhibition gives you the chance to meet in person with partners again. Expert Community Feature sessions serve up the latest updates in these specialised fields. Dive deeper with peers into one of the new Spotlight sessions, or if you like your content fast and to the point, don’t miss the quickfire Ignite© sessions. The life skills sessions help you scrub up on your resilience and assertiveness skills.

Thursday 15 September : Day three is the ideal day to dive into some of the more than 150 sessions on offer for the week, including the popular graphical poster sessions. Find out what’s new from National Agencies around the world, and get critical with senior peers as the Critical Conversations series touches upon risks and values. Panel lists will debate whether ‘Internationalisation is just a nice-to-have’ as the all-anticipated EAIE debate returns in full force. Prepare your ‘intellectual marshmallows’ for melting around today’s campfire sessions and warm up your vocal chords for the return of the much-loved EAIE choir, rehearsing to showcase Spain’s musical heritage to participants on the final conference day.

Friday 16 September : The last conference day, this will be your remaining opportunity to forge face-to-face connections at the EAIE Exhibition. The final Spotlight sessions will focus on Internationalisation at Home and stakeholder engagement, and you can take one last dip into the content sea in one of the fishbowl sessions. Take a moment to marvel at the kaleidoscope of ideas and perspectives that our community has conjured up throughout the week and take inspiration for our shared future from this year’s Closing plenary keynote speaker, renowned photographer Jimmy Nelson. Join fellow participants in person one last time for the Closing luncheon and get excited about what’s in store for EAIE 2023.
