Rock N Grill first opened in Round Rock in September 2018, but the overall theme of the Indian restaurant started evolving noticeably at the beginning of 2021.

It is around that time that owner Bhanu Prakash made two major acquisitions—a weekend magician and a robot server.

Located at 1702 N. Mays St. in Round Rock, Rock N Grill is open daily for lunch and dinner, and manager Rishi Patel said the dinner rush on Fridays and Saturdays are when the business is most packed.

That likely has something to do with Tim Dietz, who goes by the performing name of Thimeos.

Dietz has been a working magician for the last 15 years and books shows regularly.

He added to his regular gigs in March when he signed on to perform for diners at Rock n Grill on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the dinner service.

“I do a lot of close up [magic],” Dietz said. “Cards, coins, birds, big illusions.”

As for the robot server, Patel said the process involves staff placing a table’s food atop its custom tray, and then the robot rolls it to the preprogrammed destination. A human server then comes and explains each dish to patrons.

“The robot server is something very new for us,” Patel said.

Beyond the live weekend entertainment and robot-assisted service, Rock N Grill serves an extensive menu of authentic Indian cuisine, including chicken tikka masala, shrimp pepper masala and goat nigiri curry, which has a green mutton gravy with fresh cilantro and mint.

“None of our food is premade,” Patel said.

Everything on the menu is made to order with the exception of the mixed rice-based assortment of dishes known as biryanis, which Patel said are made in bulk.

Because the food is made to order, Patel said diners should expect to wait around half an hour for their orders.

“7:30 on a Friday night is crazy busy,” he said. “There will be a wait, and it takes at least 30-35 minutes for the food to come out.” But Patel said that does not deter the restaurant’s loyal clientele, and during busier hours most customers are happy with a beer or wine selection while waiting for their food.

“We never have complaints about the food,” he said. “People love the food here.”
