Navajo Witchcraft Practices: Insights into the 1878 Eradication Effort

By admin

The Navajo witch eradication effort of 1878 was a significant event in the history of the Navajo tribe. During this time, the United States government, along with the help of several Navajo leaders, embarked on a campaign to eliminate the practice of witchcraft within the Navajo community. The belief in witchcraft was deeply rooted in Navajo culture and had been an integral part of their spiritual beliefs for centuries. However, the government viewed this as a threat to the assimilation of the Navajo people into mainstream American society. Under the leadership of the U.S.

Am I correct in that the Time Hacker is only supposed to be made in a limited # of units?

I use both the whiteboard and time hacker, but instead of using the function of the time straight forward from white board to the clock, I use the remote, and the reason for that, is my show is 90 minutes long, and the clock is wrapped and introduced as a bomb, then I ask someone to use his her intuition and to write down the time and place where the bomb will blow. I fear it ll take away the whiteboard s finish little by little, Also, magic erasers do have abrasive cleaners in them, which will probably scratch a slick dry erase surface easily.

Whiteboard magic board

Has anyone seen this?
Unknown creator, but has already made the goal and reached 180k $

The board seems interesting, as most impression pads are woodenlack boards and this white eraser board is a new look and might feel better for using with spectators during the show.

I was wondering, if anyone took the plunge on it?
It also has a drastic lower price point compares to other known Imp boards (Oracle, Imagine Pad, Thought Transmitter etc..)

I have backed it. The Time Hacker device (based on Ceseral’s UTP) and whiteboard combined are cheaper than most other impression boards. The tech in impression boards has been around for a long time, it makes sense that this can now be mass produced to a lower cost. They have apparently invested in top-spec hand writing recognition (API) for the app - which is what makes an impression device valuable. David Penn is ‘endorsing’ it and has a routine for the Time Hacker device.

Posted: Apr 16, 2022 11:37 am I've backed it. Looking forward to the Timesmith integration! Posted: Apr 16, 2022 12:44 pm

Yes, I backed the whiteboard, as well, though I originally wasn't going to. I already have UTP, so felt getting the Time Hacker was kind of redundant, but looks very cool.

Merci Beaucoup Alex, nice review - I really like it.

I think this is a big improvement over the Cesaral UTP as you said.

www.ericmyersmagic.com Posted: Oct 5, 2022 07:48 pm It seems like people don't really talk about this anymore. Is it not as good as expected? Posted: Oct 5, 2022 08:12 pm

I have it and it’s good - as you would expect if you own an electronic impression device. The Peeksmith app and device both support it, which adds some nice enhancement. The former allows recognised text to be sent to other apps, which is where this gets powerful.

I have it as well, and got the pack whiteboard, time hacker and vibrate ring. I am a bit disappointed with the ring, but I love the whiteboard and time hacker. As I ask for 3 informations on the whiteboard, I use the remote for time hacker.
I had an issue with the Ikea clocks like most because Ikea came up with a new movement but Pitata did find a quick solution. SO great service from them

And while I enter the time on the remote I ask another question to the spectators. Once I know the time is set on the clock I give it all wrapped to a spectator and the reveal will only be 90 minutes later at the end of the show in a confabulation routine style.

Navajo witch eradication effort of 1878

Shelton, and the assistance of several influential Navajo leaders, a plan was devised to identify and eliminate witches within the tribe. This effort included the recruitment of Native American scouts, who were tasked with identifying individuals suspected of practicing witchcraft. Once identified, the suspected witches were often subjected to harsh treatment, including imprisonment, forced labor, and even execution. This campaign aimed to eradicate witchcraft from the Navajo community, but it also resulted in widespread fear and mistrust within the tribe. The impact of the Navajo witch eradication effort of 1878 was significant, both in terms of the immediate consequences and its long-term effects on Navajo culture. Many Navajo individuals lost their lives or were imprisoned during this time, leading to a decline in population and a loss of cultural knowledge and practices. Despite the efforts to eradicate witchcraft, the practice continued to persist within the Navajo community, albeit in a more secretive and covert manner. The campaign had unintended consequences, with some Navajo individuals adopting more resistant attitudes towards assimilation and further preserving their cultural traditions. In conclusion, the Navajo witch eradication effort of 1878 marked a dark chapter in the history of the Navajo tribe. It revealed the tensions between Native American traditions and the U.S. government's agenda of assimilation. Despite the efforts to eliminate witchcraft, the practice still survived, indicating the resilience of Navajo culture. The long-term impact of this campaign left a mark on the Navajo community, with the loss of lives, cultural knowledge, and the further resistance to assimilation..

Reviews for "The Navajo Witch Eradication Effort of 1878: A Historical Turning Point"

- Sarah - 1 star - This book was incredibly insensitive and offensive. The author seemed to glorify and justify the eradication effort, without considering the immense suffering caused to the Navajo people. The lack of empathy and disregard for the historical trauma inflicted on Indigenous communities was deeply troubling. I would not recommend this book to anyone seeking a nuanced and respectful understanding of history.
- Mark - 2 stars - The Navajo witch eradication effort of 1878 is a poorly researched and biased account. The author fails to consider the complex cultural and historical context surrounding the events, instead resorting to a one-sided narrative that perpetuates harmful stereotypes. Furthermore, the lack of engagement with Navajo perspectives undermines any attempt at providing a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. If you're looking for an accurate and balanced account, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
- Emily - 1 star - I found this book to be incredibly offensive and disturbing. The author's insensitivity towards the Navajo people is blatant, contributing to the erasure of their experiences and perpetuating harmful stereotypes. Instead of offering a nuanced perspective, the book seems to justify and downplay the violence and trauma inflicted on the Navajo community. I would caution readers to approach this book with extreme skepticism and seek out more reliable sources for a true understanding of this historical event.
