Samara Cole Doyon is a second-generation Haitian American and a multi-generational Mainer. She holds a BA in English and a certificate of teacher training from the University of Southern Maine. There are different types of magic, including stage magic, close-up magic, and mentalism. Stage magic involves larger props and elaborate set designs, often performed in theaters or arenas. Close-up magic, as the name suggests, is performed in close proximity to the audience, often involving cards or small objects. Mentalism, on the other hand, focuses on the magician's ability to seemingly read minds and predict outcomes. Magic tricks can range from simple card tricks to mind-bending illusions that leave viewers questioning their own senses. Some of the most famous magicians in history, such as Harry Houdini and David Copperfield, have pushed the boundaries of what is possible, leaving audiences in awe of their seemingly supernatural abilities. In addition to being a form of entertainment, magic has also been used as a tool for storytelling and cultural traditions. In many cultures, magicians and shamans play a crucial role in rituals and ceremonies, using their abilities to heal, protect, or communicate with the spiritual realm. Magic, in all its forms, continues to captivate and inspire people of all ages. Whether it is a grand stage performance or a simple card trick performed at a dinner table, magic has a way of evoking a sense of wonder and awe. It reminds us that there is still much about the world that we do not understand, and that sometimes, the impossible can become possible..

1. Emily - 2 stars - I found "Magic like that" to be quite disappointing. The plot seemed promising, but it quickly became confusing and lacked clear direction. Additionally, the characters were poorly developed and lacked depth. I struggled to connect with any of them, which made it difficult to become invested in the story. Overall, I felt let down by the book and would not recommend it to others.
2. Max - 1 star - "Magic like that" was a complete waste of my time. The writing was clumsy and lacked finesse. The dialogue felt forced and unnatural, making it difficult to believe in the interactions between characters. The pacing was all over the place, leaving me feeling lost and disinterested. I regret picking up this book and would caution others against doing the same.
