The magical school bus is a beloved series that takes children on exciting science adventures with their teacher, Ms. Frizzle. In one particular episode, the bus gets misplaced amidst the solar system, leading to an extraordinary learning experience for the students. Overview

The 2023 MAGIC annual conference will address aging and health across professions with a focus on organ systems above the neck, including brain disease, hearing, swallowing and speech, oral care and vision and below the knees (e.g. foot care). Presentations and discussions will also address public policy and long-term care organization’s approaches to promoting access and quality of care for older Minnesotans.

At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

1. Describe best practice approaches to address brain disorders among older people.

2. Collaborate effectively across professions to address problems above the knees such as mental health, hearing, communication, swallowing, oral health, foot care and vision problems among older people.

3. Lead efforts to respond to changes in public policy related to care of older people.

Fall Conference Topics

They find themselves surrounded by the planets, moons, and asteroids. Each student takes turns navigating and documenting their observations. They marvel at the breathtaking beauty of the celestial bodies and learn about their unique features. Guided by Ms. Frizzle's enthusiasm and knowledge, the students learn about the different planets' sizes, atmospheres, and distinctive characteristics. They witness the dazzling rings of Saturn, the volcanic activity on Io, one of Jupiter's moons, and the colossal storms on the surface of Neptune. As the students navigate through the solar system, they also learn about the importance of gravity in keeping the planets in their orbits, the Earth's position in relation to the Sun, and the formation of comets and asteroids. During this journey, the students encounter various challenges. They need to solve problems such as calculating the time it takes for a spaceship to travel between planets, measuring distances, and determining the effects of gravity on different bodies in space. Despite the challenges, the students work together, applying their knowledge and critical thinking skills to solve problems and overcome obstacles. They learn the importance of teamwork and how to adapt to unexpected situations. Finally, after an exhilarating adventure through the solar system, the students manage to find their way back to Earth. They return with a newfound appreciation for the vastness and wonders of space, armed with a wealth of knowledge about our solar system.
