It s just really not his thing and obviously he struggled with upper-body rotation so it was always going to be slightly stiff but he just failed to commit to the bit and lacked the authority and passion that a Paso lives and dies by. I think purely by virtue of their characters, it doesn t come across so much as Matador vs Bull as much as it does Mother Irritated At Her Foolhardy Son but her shaping and form is good, it s just a little slow and tentative in areas.

So I really wanted to play a martial bulette style build, but ended up trying to do it with a shaman, because the group I was joining needed a healer.

We are playing with a house rule which gives everyone the power attack feat (which is great, since it's a pre-req for bulette and improved overrun)

The build so far-

Human
1- Ftr1 (siege breaker) - Pow Attk (free), Improved Overrun (1st), Bulette Style I (hum bonus)
2- Shm1 (unsworn)
3- Shm2 (unsworn) - Bulette Style II (3rd)
4- Shm3 (unsworn)
5- Shm4 (unsworn) - Bulette Style III (5th)

I have selected the healing and flight hexes so far, and my spirit animal is a rat for bonus fort saves.

at 6th level I am planning to continue as a shaman, and my body guard archetype rat familiar will have shield other for me, and with the life spirit he will have fast healing 1. So that should make me much more durable. I am also planning to use the mastodon spirit, because I am 2 under full BAB, and that will shore that up for my overruns.

I am tempted to dip brawler, so I can more quickly gain greater overrun, combat reflexes, vicious stomp, etc.. but it seems that sticking with shaman will be more powerful in the long run.

Currently I am getting +18 overrun CMBs and 1d8+21 damage with my overruns, and next level of shaman I should be sitting around +20 CMB with the mastadon spirits hex, and about double the effective HP with my body guard familiar.

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions? Anything I am totally missing out on that I haven't considered?

For advice and all:
It will cost you a feat, but dwarves can take a racial trait that gives +2 to overrun. Could be worth it in the long run.
You obviously need greater overrun, so you can knock people down and make them AoO, particularly if you are partying with a reach/combat reflexes build. The charge through and spiked destroyer feats are also good. Grab boots of the mastodon in addition to going with the mammoth spirit, as well as gauntlets of the skilled maneuver. Because you have a familiar, improved familiar is just WAY too good to pass up, so grab it when you can.

I second staying in shaman to boost your casting, hexes, and all that other stuff when you are not just knocking people out of the way. Might be worth it to take a second level in that fighter class to get the siegebreaker momentum, allowing you to bull rush AND overrun, although that build starts to get really feat intensive. Your mammoth spirit gives you some good early spells to boost your overrun(enlarge person, bull's strength, rage) but consider wandering into battle to pick up righteous might and become a giant monster knocking over/stepping on everyone.

You can use the spiked armor/scale spikes spell to get armor spikes if you don't want to buy them for some strange reason. You might want to consider the revnant armor spell, so even if you are knocked down your armor can overrun in your stead.

Even with your build, picking up the slumber witch hex is a good idea. FUry is a decent hex and you can use it on yourself to prep a critical overrun. The fetish hex is also good for any shaman.The mammoth spirit has the thunder foot and primal speaker hexes, well worth grabbing when you get the chance. Wandering into the flame spirit can give you cinder dance, to increase your movement speed and prevent difficult terrain from stopping your overrun.

You can absolutely use this build.

I am hoping my DM will allow me to retrain greater overrun, once the mammoth spirit's hex gives it for free at 11th.. I guess I better ask in advance.

I considered dwarf and I also considered tribal scars feat, but I wanted the build to come online sooner than later.

I am definitely planning to craft the skilled manuever gauntlets soon as I get my coffers full again. I bought a wand of keep watch, because my build is so armor dependant and dont want to get caught with my pants down.

I am about to use life and mammoth at 6th, but I plan to add flame, battle, and slums when able. I think I might get wandering spirit or hex or something at Shm6, and that will be sweet.

An improved familiar pooka was what I was thinking for that avenue, or something with fast healing if not the pooka.

Good call on the wand of keep watch. Better than a wand of bed of iron and swift girding. Might want a backup in case you botch on the UMD check.

I assume you are going life to have your familiar get more fast healing?

I had a pooka as my last improved familiar for my witch. Pookas are not the best improved familiar around, but they are pretty freaking good. They can be the translator, so long as whatever you are talking to will let you touch it. Being able to have a conversation with your familiar nobody can hear is also nice. Invisibility and magical flight are the big sellers-I would use mine as an airborne scout to great effect.
I think I only managed to land a suggestion once, but having minor image 3/day was very handy. The poison is not great, but it does do WIS damage and can lower will saves(for slumber, etc). Being invisible and using your 3/4th BAB they can reasonably hit most enemies, so if you have the spare coin buy it a decent weapon. Won't do much damage, but it is something, and yours will have a stupid amount of fast healing so it is not as dangerous to risk in combat.
Buy some wands and scrolls for your pooka as well; good way to patch up your spell list and get some buffs off without wasting your turn so you can barrel over people.

Yes, going life for more familiar fast healing. Also for the lifelink hex on my gunslinger in case he is getting mugged.

What wands/scrolls can a pooka reliably use? I don't have much experience with familiars.

A pooka can use any wand fairly easily if you have maxed out UMD. They have a +1 charisma mod so they can use your ranks as a familiar since wands have a DC of 20.

They have 13 cha and 12 wis, but only 11 intelligence until your at 13th level and beyond. So this is generally going to limit them to 2nd level divine spells, 3rd level bard/sorcerer spells, and only 1st level witch or wizard spells. They can UMD to get the ability score as well, but it is somewhat difficult and not something you want to risk in combat.

Like any good wand or scroll, pick things without DC's that are good in combat. Faerie fire is a 1st level druid spell and useful through most of the game. Mine always carried cure light wounds, enlarge/reduce person, and grease.

A pooka has a +6 to UMD. It can't gain more ranks, but it can use your ranks in proxy. So it would be worth it to take some UMD ranks so it can be good. A +6 is not terrible, but not reliable enough to be used in combat. You could still give it some utility wands and scrolls for out of combat.
