Jessica Porter is a renowned magician who has been practicing the art of magic for over a decade. Her performances have captivated audiences around the world, leaving them in awe of her incredible skills. This particular trick, which she refers to as "rest magic," involves Jessica placing an object, such as a coin or a deck of cards, on a table. The methodical storytelling that ignores traditional atmosphere and scare-crafting combined with the lo-fi VHS quality is the wedge that divides those that love the movie and those that don’t. Admittedly, I fell into the latter upon the first watch. Nearly two hours is far too long for many horror movies, and the first hour does tend to crawl. The ultimate payoff may not feel worth it and certainly didn’t for me at first. But a second watch on Shudder deepened my appreciation for the film, which allowed for better absorption of the nuances and details. Details are crucial to unlocking this film, but patience is just as vital. Of all the found footage/faux documentary-style horror movies out there, Noroi sets itself apart from the pack with its unconventional approach.
After disappearing for three days, Angela Lidya Jewett and Katherine Olivia O Neill are found in a nearby barn with no memory of where they ve been or what they ve seen. The nurse observes Angela s behavior in the hospital and connects her actions to passages in a book she read in college Chris s account of Regan s possession.
When she lifts the cloth, the object has mysteriously vanished. The audience is left wondering how she managed to make the object disappear, and their curiosity only grows when Jessica brings the object back into existence moments later. The applause and astonishment from the crowd are a testament to her skill and showmanship.
