Ethel Hallow is a character from the popular children's book series "The Worst Witch", written by Jill Murphy. She is known as the "Worst Witch" due to her constant misfortunes and mistakes. Ethel is a rival of the main character, Mildred Hubble, and often tries to sabotage her and get her into trouble. Ethel comes from a long line of powerful witches and is determined to uphold her family's reputation. She is a snobby and highly ambitious witch who believes that she is superior to others. She constantly brags about her magical abilities and looks down upon those who are not as skilled as she is.

In revenge, Ethel jinxed the spare broom she lent Mildred which caused Mildred to accidentally ruin a broomstick performance in front of Chief Wizard Egbert Hellibore. When Agatha tries to destroy the school, all the students chant together to stop her spell, and this also changes Esmerelda, the teachers, and the grand wizard back into themselves, and Agatha and Miss Gullet end up trapped in a painting by Miss Cackle.
