Crochet Witch Hat

Looking for a last minute Crochet Halloween Costume?! Stitch up a Witch Hat! This pattern can be found on Yarnspirations.com and comes in sizes Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large so you can make one for every family member! Make a mommy & me version or gather your girlfriends and dress as the Sanderson Sisters! There are many ways to customize this hat. You will see that in the original pattern, there are directions to make this a Witchy Cat Hat by adding cat eyes, ears, and whiskers. In my version below I changed the colors, added a black stripe, and then stitched on crochet belt buckle for the finish touch. But what about making a jack-o-lantern face witch hat?! or a Frankenstein face on the green hat?! You will have to show me what you make!

For my versions, I made the size small and changed yarn colors at row 26 (4 rows of black) and then finished the pattern with a single row of the main hat color and added the brim just as the pattern reads.

I will be showing you all the details of my version of the Witchy Hat on OCTOBER 26 LIVE ON FACEBOOK. JOIN ME FOR A LUNCH & LEARN AT NOON EST at the Yarnspirations Facebook Page and the Red Heart Yarn Facebook Page. If you are unavailable during that day and time you will be able to watch the replay after it’s posted!

Just a few notes about the pattern:
– The hat works flat in rows (not rounds) and then you will stitch the edges together using your tapestry needle when finished.
– I like that it lays flat because it’s much easier to add on any embellishments like a buckle, cat face, or jack-o-lantern face!
– Red Heart Super Saver is the perfect yarn for this project! It gives it a nice sturdy shape.
– The pattern for the small size hat (which is what I made) fits Ollie the Owl perfectly! He looks like he’s ready to go trick-or-treating! Scroll down to see Halloween Ollie 🙂

Happy Halloween Crocheting!

Let’s fill out our chart with the Circumference values we need.

To begin crocheting your hat, you will first need to create a foundation chain. The length of this chain will depend on the circumference of your head. You can measure your head using the tape measure and add a few extra inches for ease and comfort. Once you have created your foundation chain, you will join it into a loop by slip stitching into the first stitch. Next, you will start working in rounds to create the body of the hat. You will begin by crocheting a certain number of stitches into the loop you created with your foundation chain. The number of stitches will depend on the size of the hat you are making and the stitch pattern you choose. For a basic single crochet hat, you can start with six stitches. Continue working in rounds, adding stitches as necessary to gradually increase the diameter of the hat. You can adjust the number of increases based on your desired hat size. As you work, the hat will start to take shape, with the crown becoming more pronounced. Once you have reached the desired diameter of the hat, you can begin working straight rounds without any increases. The length of this section will depend on how long you want the body of your hat to be. You can try the hat on as you work to ensure it fits properly. After you have reached the desired length, you can start decreasing stitches to shape the top of the hat. This is done by working two stitches together in certain locations. Again, the number of decreases and the placement will depend on the size and style of hat you are making. Once you have finished shaping the top of the hat, you will fasten off the yarn and weave in any loose ends. At this point, you can also add any additional embellishments you desire, such as a ribbon or a feather. In conclusion, creating an easy crochet witch hat is a fun and satisfying project for any crochet enthusiast. With just a few basic stitches and some imagination, you can create a unique and charming accessory that will complete any Halloween costume or outfit. Whether you prefer a classic black hat or want to experiment with different colors and embellishments, the possibilities are endless. So grab your crochet hook and some yarn, and get ready to let your creativity soar as you crochet your own witch hat..

Reviews for "Step-by-Step Instructions for Crocheting a Witch Hat"

I was really disappointed with the "Easy crochet witch hat" pattern. The instructions were unclear and poorly written, making it difficult to follow along. Additionally, the final product didn't turn out as expected. The hat ended up looking misshapen and the size was way off. I had to undo and restart the project multiple times, but I still couldn't get the desired result. Overall, it was a frustrating and unsatisfying experience.

This "Easy crochet witch hat" pattern is anything but easy. As a beginner, I thought I could tackle it, but I was completely wrong. The pattern assumes you have advanced crochet skills and skips over basic explanations. I found it incredibly confusing and gave up halfway through. I wish there were more detailed instructions and explanations for each step, as I ended up wasting time, money, and effort on a project that turned out to be a failure.

I was excited to try the "Easy crochet witch hat" pattern since Halloween was approaching, but I was utterly disappointed with the outcome. The pattern itself was poorly written, with missing steps and unclear instructions. The final hat looked nothing like the picture provided. The sizing was way off, and the proportions were all wrong. I wouldn't recommend this pattern to anyone who wants to create a neat and well-fitting witch hat. Save yourself the frustration and look for a different pattern.
