Can you buy a wand with higher caster level than minimum?

Not much of a thread, but there's definitely a question involved. Of course, with an answer so simple there's not a lot more to say.

I guess you could go into 750xCLxSL is the price, but that's pretty obvious from the rules.

And there's probably a PFS rule against it.

But in general: yes, yes you can.

But how does one adjudicate it? Surely such wands are rarer than the traditional minimum caster-level wands.

Perhaps you roll normally for traditional wands (75% chance of having it in an appropriate settlement), but have to seek out an appropriately-leveled caster and specifically commission wands with a higher caster level?

One good place is the pregenerated items that come with each settlement (4d4 minor, 2d4 medium, etc.)

I've also rolled for them - albeit at considerably lower pecentage, and usually when it made some sense to the spell vis-a-vis caster level. So they couldn't always choose the exact caster level, but they were able to find (for example) potions of anticipate peril at CL 5 (where the spell caps out).

Resist energy would be another wand you could probably find at CL 7 and 11 more frequently than some. I could even imagine sales names like "improved" and "superior" energy resist wands.

Same for scorching ray I suppose.

Just imagine a wizard who made his living by crafting as he hits level 18.

"Sorry bud, nobody wants your wands anymore. Your caster level is too high."

They can still craft at lower CLs. Interesting story idea, though. ^_^

hah, that would be funny, the wizard who is overqualified for employment and living on the streets.
He says he'll take less, but no one will hire him.

Ha, I have a new plot hook.

"Hey Jim. I think that hobo just cast wish."

There is. however if a higher level CL wand is on a Chronicle, that can be purchased.

It's one reason why Communal Energy Resist is valued vs Energy Resist in PFS.

The price is based on the CL you choose, which can be set voluntarily lower than your max CL, though it has a minimum of the minimum needed to cast the spell. So a level 18 wizard can still choose to craft and sell CL 1 wands of CLW, or CL 3 wands of barkskin (but not CL 1 wands of barkskin, as minimum CL for a level 2 spell is 3)

Wait i thought a wizard couldnt make a CLW wand unless he got some SLA or some other way to get CLW going for him in the first place.

He can't. But the general idea is still correct - just replace CLW with magic missile and barkskin with blur.

You don't want a higher CL for CLW wands. CLW is all about healing/gp.

Resist Energy was the chosen because higher caster level increases the amount of energy resisted from 10 to 20 to 30, a clear benefit.

Yes sorry about CLW not being on the list, didn't think carefully enough about the example.

Sounds a little bit like breaking bad.

Is this how liches are made?

IT's actually a weakness of the rules.

By the rules, making a +5 sword with a caster level of 20 takes no more time then making one at CL 15, the minimum, and both cost the same.

The way the cost rules work, higher caster levels make a magic item less cost efficient, not moreso. Yet it takes a higher level caster the same amount of time to make it as a lower level caster, despite the aptitude difference.

The system is set up to control the sell/purchase power of magic items and dispose of gold, NOT reflect the fact that the spellcrafting check in making a magic item should be treated just like any other Craft or Profession check.

Reviews for "Breaking Barriers: The Impact of Amulrt Cloud Searchers"

1. Sarah - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with "Amulrt the cooud searchers". The plot was confusing and hard to follow, with too many subplots that didn't seem to connect or have any real resolution. The characters lacked depth and development, making it difficult to care about their fates. Overall, the book felt disjointed and unsatisfying, and I wouldn't recommend it to others.
2. Mark - 1 star - I couldn't get past the first few chapters of "Amulrt the cooud searchers". The writing style was choppy and awkward, making it difficult to engage with the story. The dialogue felt forced and unnatural, and the excessive use of clichés was off-putting. Additionally, I found the descriptions to be overly detailed and excessively long. In the end, I had to give up on this book as it simply wasn't enjoyable or compelling.
3. Emily - 3 stars - While "Amulrt the cooud searchers" had an interesting premise, the execution fell flat for me. The pacing was slow, with long stretches of inaction and introspection that made it a struggle to stay engaged. The world-building also left much to be desired, as I found it difficult to visualize and connect with the settings. While there were moments of potential, the overall reading experience was underwhelming and left me wanting more substance and excitement.
