I've always loved stories where an old house or castle has hidden places (and if I ever build myself a house its going to have such things). Fantasy gives such things an edge, as magic can be used to hide such places where irl the measurements of an area might show things are off, magic might be used to hide this in many different ways (depending on the magic in world).

It is known as the King's Ways, as it is only completely safe for the King and his immediate named Heir Apparent to use. Those with the King's Seal can technically use it, but it doesn't offer full protections (it has killed people before when parts of the halls rearrange themselves). The Ways are dangerous to mortals due to the fact that they are connected to a non-physical realm that has different Laws of Physics that bleed over into the Ways. This is not a place anyone should want to go, and but few understand the rules as it hasn't been studied very well due to the fact that it is known only to the the Royal Family and some high level servants of the crown who are mostly unable to talk about it as most such people, historically, swear oaths of secrecy when they are hired to keep them from becoming turncoats.
