The Wicked Witch of the West is a fictional character from the novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" written by L. Frank Baum. She is one of the primary antagonists of the story, ruling over the Winkie Country with an iron fist. The Wicked Witch of the West is known for her green skin, long nose, and pointy hat. She is often depicted as a powerful and malicious sorceress who uses her magical abilities for wicked purposes. In the story, she seeks revenge against Dorothy and her companions for killing her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East.
Howard: Absolutely. And I’ll have an example of another Conan tale not to do that with in the next collection, because it delayed my exploration of Conan for another two or three years longer. And you’re right that it IS refreshing to see that even genius falters. Not that I take any pleasure from that. Like most Conan fans, I simply wish that there were more of these stories from Howard’s underwood, or if not more, then that these mis-steps and leftovers were at the same level as the finest. Ah well.
There are literally DOZENS of words to describe a lovely female yet Robert E Howard presents the SAME woman to us in story after story using EXACTLY the same language. The pace is off, there s no sense of adventure or momentum, and there is very little from the cast of minor characters to hold the reader s interest.
In the story, she seeks revenge against Dorothy and her companions for killing her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East. Throughout the novel, the Wicked Witch of the West tries various methods to capture Dorothy and her friends, including sending her Flying Monkeys to attack them. She also possesses a Golden Cap that grants her three wishes, which she later tries to use to enslave Dorothy and her companions.
A Witch Shall Be Born
A WITCH SHALL BE BORN is one of the original sword and sorcery novellas by Robert E. Howard about Conan the Cimmerian. It was written in only a few days in the spring of 1934 and first published in Weird Tales in December 1934. It sold for $155.00.
In July 5, 1934 Howard sent the typescript (not the final draft) to Mr. Barlow. In the letter he tells Barlow that Farnsworth Wright had told him it was his best Conan story.
Queen Taramis of Khauran awakens one day to find her identical twin sister, Salome, staring her in the face. As an infant, Salome was deemed a witch due to a crescent-shaped birthmark on her chest. This birthmark was believed to be a sign of evil, so she was left in the desert to die. However, a magician from Khitai (China) found Salome, brought her up, and instructed her in the art of sorcery.

Bill: Fantastic, powerful writing in the crucifixion scene, for sure, it almost made me squirm. And it goes beyond the mere outlining of pain, we also see the indomitable spirit of Conan win through — a man that fights to the last breath, with his teeth if needed. Here is what a barbarian is all about, with his “life nailed to his spine” as he later tells Constantius, after turning the tables on him. Olgerd Vladislav’s torments as he rescues Conan only heighten the whole thing — Conan doesn’t just survive being crucified, he’s cut down like a tree, pulls out the nails himself once he gets his hands free, and then mounts and rides through ten miles of desert without a drink of water. Holy Crom!
Despite her menacing nature, the Wicked Witch of the West is ultimately defeated by Dorothy, who accidentally throws water on her, causing her to melt away. This event highlights the witch's vulnerability and serves as a turning point in the story. The Wicked Witch of the West has become an iconic character in popular culture and has been portrayed in various adaptations of "The Wizard of Oz." She is often seen as a symbol of evil and serves as a contrast to Dorothy and her allies, who represent good and innocence. 1. Sarah - 2/5 stars - I was really excited to see "Wicked Witch of the West Nights" as I'm a big fan of the original Wizard of Oz story. However, I was left disappointed. The production felt lackluster and the performances were underwhelming. The set design lacked creativity and the costumes were uninspired. Overall, the show failed to capture the magic and enchantment that I was expecting.
2. Mike - 1/5 stars - I have to say, "Wicked Witch of the West Nights" was one of the worst theater experiences I've ever had. The script was poorly written, with cheesy dialogue and predictable plot twists. The acting was subpar and the singing was off-key. The whole production felt amateurish and I couldn't wait for it to end. Save your money and skip this one.
3. Rebecca - 2/5 stars - I had high hopes for "Wicked Witch of the West Nights" but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The pacing was off, making the show feel disjointed and confusing at times. The character development was lacking and I found it hard to connect with any of the cast. The production seemed to rely heavily on cheap humor instead of focusing on a well-crafted storyline. It had its moments, but overall, it was a forgettable experience.
4. Jonathan - 2/5 stars - "Wicked Witch of the West Nights" had potential, but it failed to deliver. The music was forgettable and the choreography felt unoriginal. The actors seemed disconnected from their characters, resulting in a lack of emotional depth. The show lacked energy and failed to engage the audience. It's a shame because the concept had potential, but the execution fell flat. Overall, I would not recommend this production.
