Vin Diesel tasked with hunting down witches

Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have released the first trailer for Breck Eisner‘s The Last Witch Hunter, starring Vin Diesel as the titular character, who is tasked with preventing a coven of witches from unleashing a plague on New York City.

Based on the trailer, the film looks like a culmination of Underworld, Blade, I, Frankenstein, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, and other contemporary supernatural hunter films. That being said, there is no reason to believe that this could not be any fun to watch. After all he will be joined by Julie Engelbrecht, Elijah Wood, Michael Caine, and Rose Leslie.

The tone of the film seems to indicate that it is striving to be a bit more serious than those modern day horror flicks.

The Last Witch Hunter opens in theaters this fall on October 23, 2015.

The modern world holds many secrets, but the most astounding secret of all is that witches still live amongst us; vicious supernatural creatures intent on unleashing the Black Death upon the world. Armies of witch hunters battled the unnatural enemy across the globe for centuries, including KAULDER, a valiant warrior who managed to slay the all-powerful QUEEN WITCH, decimating her followers in the process. In the moments right before her death, the QUEEN curses KAULDER with her own immortality, forever separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. Today KAULDER is the only one of his kind remaining, and has spent centuries hunting down rogue witches, all the while yearning for his long-lost loved ones. However, unbeknownst to KAULDER, the QUEEN WITCH is resurrected and seeks revenge on her killer causing an epic battle that will determine the survival of the human race.

I had a glimmer of hope that The Last Witch Hunter might not be this bad. I’m always pushing for original properties to not be total garbage, and director Breck Eisner’s previous movies aren’t complete bombs. I would’ve settled for something at the level of Brett Ratner’s totally dumb but fun Hercules, but The Last Witch Hunter is heavy on the former and devoid of the latter. I will say this: it’s almost certainly better than that book I slaved away at as a child, the title of which I’ve long since forgotten, but I probably could’ve gotten away with calling it The Last Witch Hunter. ■

Reviews for "Vin Diesel's Next Challenge: Tracking Down Witches on the Big Screen"

1. Sarah - 2/5 - I had high hopes for "Vin Diesel tasked with hunting down witches," but I was sorely disappointed. The storyline was predictable, and the acting felt forced and lackluster. The film failed to create any sense of suspense or intrigue, and I found myself losing interest halfway through. The special effects were also poorly executed, making the witches seem more comical than menacing. Overall, it was a missed opportunity to create a compelling supernatural action film.
2. Mark - 1/5 - "Vin Diesel tasked with hunting down witches" was simply a mess. The plot was convoluted and made little sense, and the characters lacked depth or development. The action scenes were poorly choreographed, and the dialogue felt cliché and uninspired. The film relied heavily on CGI, which only highlighted its flaws and made it feel even more disconnected. I was hoping for an entertaining and thrilling experience, but instead, I was left feeling bored and unfulfilled. Save your time and skip this one.
3. Laura - 2.5/5 - I appreciate Vin Diesel's efforts to diversify his roles, but "Vin Diesel tasked with hunting down witches" didn't live up to my expectations. While there were a few entertaining moments, the overall execution fell flat. The film seemed unsure of its tone, attempting to combine action, comedy, and horror elements, resulting in an inconsistent experience. The plot had potential, but it lacked coherence and failed to fully explore the intriguing supernatural world it introduced. It's not a terrible movie, but it certainly could have been much better.
