You might be taking unnecessary action. Do you know what kind of roof you currently have?
Most leaks are from the sealed areas around the edges of the roof, vents, etc. Those can be cleaned and resealed or replaced.
There are different types of roofs and not all products will adhere to them.
Need more information.
