Location

9 / 10

On a side street north of Hollywood Boulevard, the hotel is two blocks from the Hollywood & Highland shopping mall, the historic Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. From the Hollywood/Highland stop on the Metro Red Line, trains run to Universal Studios (around 20 minutes) and downtown Los Angeles (30 minutes). The beach at Santa Monica is at least a 30-minute drive away, or an hour by public bus.

Style and Character

6 / 10

Given its convenient location, the hotel doesn't have to work very hard to pull in guests. Nevertheless, it's clean, spacious and contemporary, with 40-plus rooms and suites arranged in three-story buildings that are painted sunshine yellow and set amongst tall palm trees. Interior courtyards with decorative fountains add to the laid-back atmosphere.

Service and Facilities

7 / 10

Personable staff are welcoming and ready to assist with most requests, though they are sometimes busy. Ask about making reservations for dinner and a show at the Magic Castle, a private magician's club, next door to the hotel. The hotel's outdoor swimming pool is often crowded, usually with families and young children.

Rooms

Airy rooms feel sunny and spacious, even if some show minor wear-and-tear. Cream, chocolate brown and charcoal grey tones are easy on the eyes. The stand-out feature is a full kitchen, which comes standard with all rooms and also one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites. Pillow-top mattresses, fluffy robes and slippers, and Tarocco bath products will help you unwind after a day of sightseeing around LA.

Food and Drink

7 / 10

The hotel doesn't have a restaurant or bar. Complimentary continental breakfast features fresh-baked pastries and muffins from a local bakery and unlimited snacks and sodas are available all day long. You'll find dozens of restaurants and bars just a couple of blocks away on Hollywood Boulevard, including at the Hollywood & Highland shopping and entertainment complex.

I had a terrible experience at The Magic Castle Inn. The room was not clean when I arrived and had a strong musty smell. The bed sheets were stained and looked like they hadn't been washed in weeks. The bathroom was dirty, with a broken toilet seat and a shower that barely had any water pressure. The staff was unhelpful and seemed disinterested in addressing any of my concerns. Overall, it was a disappointing stay and I would not recommend this inn to anyone.
2. Sarah - 2 stars
The Magic Castle Inn was not what I expected. The room was outdated and in desperate need of renovation. The furniture was old and worn out, and the carpet was stained and dirty. The air conditioning unit was loud and barely kept the room cool. The walls were thin, and I could hear every sound from the neighboring rooms. The breakfast served was limited and of poor quality. I was very disappointed with my stay and would not choose to stay at this inn again.
3. David - 1 star
My stay at The Magic Castle Inn was a complete disaster. The room was infested with bugs, and I woke up with mosquito bites all over my body. The staff was unapologetic and unresponsive when I reported the issue. The Wi-Fi was extremely slow and unreliable, making it impossible to get any work done. The location was also far from any decent restaurants or attractions. Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had, and I would advise others to avoid staying at The Magic Castle Inn.
