A Wicked Twist: The Witch Collector Strikes Back

By admin

The follow-up to the witch collector is an exciting continuation of the story that focuses on the aftermath of the events that took place in the first book. In the previous installment, readers were introduced to a world where witches exist and are collected by a mysterious and powerful organization called the Witch Collector. The main character, Lily, discovered her own powers as a witch and embarked on a dangerous journey to uncover the truth about her past and the secrets of the Witch Collector. Along the way, she formed alliances with other witches and encountered numerous obstacles and challenges. In the follow-up, the story picks up where it left off, with Lily and her newfound allies devising a plan to take down the Witch Collector once and for all. They have learned that the organization is not only interested in collecting witches, but also in using their powers for their own nefarious purposes.

I am so weird on this. For me, stories arrive in my head because the characters already exist. It’s like they’re floating around in the ether looking for a writer to tell their story. When they find me, it’s like they whisper in my ear: “Hi, I’m so and so. These are my friends and this is our tale, and you’re going to tell it.” Sometimes I have to dig for the names of supporting cast members, but most names just pop into my head with a fully-formed character attached.

Thrust into an age-old story of ice, fire, and ancient gods, Raina must abandon vengeance and aid the Witch Collector in saving the Frost King or let their empire and her sister fall into enemy hands. The follow up to the witch collector

They have learned that the organization is not only interested in collecting witches, but also in using their powers for their own nefarious purposes. As Lily and her friends delve deeper into the secrets of the Witch Collector, they uncover a hidden world filled with dark magic and dangerous adversaries. The stakes are higher than ever as they race against time to save not only themselves but also the countless witches who have been exploited by the organization.

A beautifully written fantasy, iced over with complex magic systems, dangerous undercurrents, and an enemies to lovers romance. It’s full of villages, witch magic and god knives, ancient customs and feasts, and frost stealing across the earth. I also absolutely adored that it has disability rep, with Raina unable to speak verbally and instead using fantasy-sign-language!! More of this in fantasy please 😍🙌🏻 This is definitely not a book to miss if you love thrilling romantic fantasy adventures with complex subplots. Perfect for fans of Naomi Novik and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Hi Charissa! Thanks for chatting with me today about your novel, The Witch Collector! Can you tell us a little about your publishing journey and how your book went from idea to finished novel?

Hi there! Thanks for having me 🙂 I’ve been writing forever, but haven’t pursued publishing my work until the last five years. Back in 2017, I decided to put together an anthology based around the Wheel of the Year/pagan festivals. The old ways are very interesting to me. The first anthology’s theme was vampires and was set around the Winter Solstice. That book published in December of 2018 and contained short stories, novelettes, and novellas from all genres and many talented authors. I knew that the 2019 volume would center around Mabon/Autumnal Equinox and witchcraft/witches. So the seeds for The Witch Collector were born then. Once I wrote the novella though, I could see the larger story. I published The Witch Collector in the 2019 anthology and later contracted all three novellas with City Owl Press. The plan was to expand The Witch Collector a little and keep all three novellas around 45K words each. At the time, novellas seemed like all I could manage. I was a caregiver to my father, and the time and mental energy to turn the tale into a trilogy of full-length novels didn’t exist. My father passed in 2020, and I had to postpone the novella’s release. In the months after my dad’s death, I poured myself into Raina Bloodgood’s world to help busy my mind as I coped with the loss, and before I knew it, I had a 400-page novel on my hands. Thankfully, my publisher was cool about this and now here we are.

What’s your favourite thing about writing fantasy?

I love creating worlds for readers to slip into. For myself, as a reader and writer, fantasy is an escape. When I’m writing, I get caught up in the story I’m developing. I can’t imagine not having these lush worlds to lose myself inside.

Creating worlds is honestly the best ✨😍 Do you have a favourite moment from your publishing journey so far?

There have been several. It’s tough to choose between getting my first gushy reader review and holding the hardback. I am so thankful for everything that has happened during the unexpected journey of this story.

That first moment of holding your own book 😭👌🏻 So special. How did you choose your character names? Do they ever change as you write?

I am so weird on this. For me, stories arrive in my head because the characters already exist. It’s like they’re floating around in the ether looking for a writer to tell their story. When they find me, it’s like they whisper in my ear: “Hi, I’m so and so. These are my friends and this is our tale, and you’re going to tell it.” Sometimes I have to dig for the names of supporting cast members, but most names just pop into my head with a fully-formed character attached.

That is very very helpful of your characters to do that 😂 So tell us your favourite thing about Raina Bloodgood!

I adore Raina. I suppose my favorite thing is that she is so fierce. She loves and hates with the fire of a thousand suns. She can provide warmth and light or she can burn you to ash. Literally.

It’s impossible not to adore Raina. I loved her from the first page ahhh. Now lastly! Was any chocolate harmed in the making of this novel? 😌

HAHA. Sadly, SO MUCH chocolate was sacrificed to the Writing Gods. You have no idea. But my waistline does 😉

Is it possible to write without chocolate anyway 😪👌🏻 That’s the real question. Thank you so much for the super fun interview, Charissa!! And congrats again on your beautiful novel 🤗.

Reviews for "Enchanting Darkness: The Witch Collector's Follow Up Revealed"

1) Jane Doe - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the follow up to "The Witch Collector". The storyline felt forced and lacked the originality and intrigue of the first book. The characters weren't developed well enough, and I found myself not caring about what happened to them. The pacing was also off, with some scenes dragging on unnecessarily while others felt rushed. Overall, it failed to capture the magic of its predecessor.
2) John Smith - 1 star - As a fan of "The Witch Collector", I had high expectations for the follow up, but unfortunately, it fell flat for me. The plot felt convoluted and confusing, with a lot of unnecessary subplots that didn't contribute much to the overall story. The writing style was also lacking, lacking the depth and descriptive language that made the first book so captivating. I struggled to connect with the characters, who felt one-dimensional and unrealistic. Overall, it was a disappointing read that didn't live up to its potential.
3) Mary Johnson - 2 stars - I was really looking forward to the sequel to "The Witch Collector", but it left me feeling underwhelmed. The storyline tried to be too complex and ended up feeling messy and disjointed. The pacing was off, with long stretches of boredom followed by rushed climactic scenes. The characters also lacked depth and development, making it hard to truly care about their fates. Overall, it failed to live up to the intriguing and captivating world created in the first book.
4) David Anderson - 2.5 stars - While I enjoyed "The Witch Collector", the follow up fell short of my expectations. The plot felt repetitive and lacked the originality and freshness of the first book. The writing style was also less engaging, with flat dialogue and a lack of descriptive language. Additionally, the pacing was off, with the story dragging in the middle and rushing through important moments towards the end. It was a mediocre sequel that failed to capture the magic of its predecessor.
