ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Magic have officially announced contract extensions for President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman and General Manager John Hammond.
According to multiple league reports, the contracts will continue through the 2025-26 season. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The move had been expected since the team traded All-Star center Nikola Vucevic and forwards Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon at the 2021 trade deadline after back-to-back seasons of making the playoffs and losing in the first round.
The deals launched an extensive rebuild. The Vucevic deal with the Chicago Bulls returned center Wendell Carter Jr., the No. 8 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft — which they used to draft forward Franz Wagner — and another first-round pick in 2023. The Gordon deal returned guard Gary Harris, swingman R.J. Hampton and a protected 2025 draft pick. The Magic also drafted guard Cole Anthony with the No. 15 pick overall in 2020.
“Jeff (Weltman) and John (Hammond) have done a tremendous job of building our basketball operations infrastructure, while putting us in position to reach our ultimate goal,” Magic Chief Executive Officer Alex Martins said. “We certainly look forward to exciting days ahead.”
Entering Friday night’s game against the Charlotte Hornets, the Magic are 7-35 this season, the league’s worst record, and have lost 10 consecutive games. The team has been hard hit by games lost to injury and COVID health and safety protocols. If the trend continues, the team would be in position to receive a top pick in the 2022 draft.
