The Trials of Ivy Asher: Unearthing the Necromantic Powers of the Bone Witch

By admin

The bone witch Ivy Asher is an enigmatic character with unique necromantic abilities. These abilities set her apart from other witches and make her a force to be reckoned with in the magical world. Necromancy is the practice of communicating with and controlling the dead, a power that Ivy possesses in abundance. She is able to raise and control the dead, using their powers to fight her enemies and protect herself and those she cares about. This ability gives her a considerable advantage in battle, as she is able to summon an army of undead soldiers to do her bidding. However, Ivy's necromantic abilities come with a price.

This is a world that I never wanted to be a part of, but magic gives no fucks and takes no prisoners… At least we have that much in common.

Low and behold, Lennie is now the head of the Osseous line and has to navigate learning her new powers in a world she doesn t know much about and facing a crisis. She has a very interesting family dynamic, which was quite entertaining, and while I did find her a bit annoying and naive at times, she was overall a fun, enjoyable character to read about.

However, Ivy's necromantic abilities come with a price. The power she wields is fueled by the lifeforce of others, making her dependent on the deaths of living creatures in order to maintain her powers. This puts her in a moral dilemma, as she must constantly make the choice between using her powers to protect herself and others, or preserving life at the cost of her own safety.

In 2017 Ella Clark and her father move to a house that overlooks the Thornhill Institute for Children, a dilapidated former orphanage. Ella’s father is rarely home, so when the lonely teenager sees a girl wandering around the Thornhill grounds, she crawls under the fence to introduce herself. In 1932 Mary Baines (13) is a lonely orphan at Thornhill when it is in the process of closing. Her few friends are adopted or moved to another orphanage, leaving Mary in the company of an unstable bully. As the staff is reduced, the bulling increases, and Mary plots her revenge. Intertwined narrations feature entries from Mary’s diary, newspaper clippings, and eerie black and white illustrations documenting Ella’s interactions with Mary’s ghost.

This story follows Lennox who comes into her powers when her Grammy Ruby dies. There is a lot to love about this book. I enjoyed Leni’s sense of humour and her no fucks given attitude. I can’t say that I’m a fan of Rogan, mainly because he is shady ASF! From the first introduction I just did not like the vibes he was throwing out.
