Stories from the CoE Community What Will You Learn?

The Wicca Diploma Course offers a journey of discovery - showing you how to live life magically, spiritually, and wholly attuned with nature, using the beautiful, and very personal, practice known as Wicca. From spells and rituals to creating amulets and a Book of Shadows, you’ll learn Wicca practices and all you need to start this fantastic journey of self-discovery and deep appreciation of the energy of nature and the divine.

Wicca is often misunderstood and misrepresented. By studying the Wicca Diploma Course, you will learn the truth of the practice and what it really is and is not. You’ll discover its origins and how to use it to improve your life.

Wicca arose from the practice of Shamanism. You will learn how the two are connected and the difference between Wicca and other religions. There is no ‘right’ way to develop your Wiccan identity, but you will be guided through practices that can be used to help you on your journey. You will be advised on the ways Wicca can benefit you and the holidays celebrated in the Wiccan calendar and the significance of each.

The practice of Wicca magic involves the use of a variety of tools. The Wicca Diploma Course itemises these, explains the use of each, and details how to consecrate them before use. In a similar way, you’ll learn the use of the four elements (earth, air, fire, and water) in spellcasting and how to protect yourself before initiating any ritual.

Worship, rituals and spellcasting are practiced at a Wiccan’s altar - a private, sacred space solely dedicated to the practice. Each altar is personal to the practitioner but have common elements that should be included, which are detailed in the course.

Enhancing your spirituality is at the forefront of the practice and part of this is how you react to circumstances and how you treat others; to this end the concepts of Karma and the Law of Threefold Return are explained.

You will learn how to cast spells and discover the use, meaning, and significance of the pentagram symbol in Wiccan practice. You will gain insight into the meaning of colours in spells and the importance of retaining this information and trusting your intuition and judgement in deciding whether a colour feels right for you. Using candle spells is covered extensively, including how to time these with lunar phases to enhance the power of spells and how to perform simple spells and even create your own. The course also provides a complete Love Attracting ritual and a Prosperity Chant.

Thought forms are created solely by thought and exist as nonphysical entities of the mental or astral planes. Low in nature or high in spirituality, thought forms can be aimed towards anyone and latch onto a similar vibration in the other person’s energy or aura to protect, heal or harm. The course discusses this energy and how to use it safely and ethically.

Another way Wiccans affect vibrations or essence is through the intake of herbs and oils. The various types, uses and methods are explained in detail. You’ll also learn how to perform a basic protection ritual and an attraction spell, which is a much simpler form of a love spell.

Everything in nature has a spirit and spectacular things can happen when you work with them. This course teaches you how to invocate these metaphysical beings and the benefits of doing so. You’ll learn how to attune yourself with nature through a guided ritual.

As you practice Wicca you will gather magical items, rituals, spells, and other information that is useful to you. To retain this information Wiccans collate it in what is known as a Book of Shadows or grimoire. The Wicca Diploma Course highlights the importance of collating information related to your practice in this way and provides a guide on how to start your own book.

The practice of Wicca is all about developing the power of the mind. When you meditate, you develop both mental flexibility and mental strength. The benefits to you as an individual and you as a Wiccan are expressed in the course, along with guides to meditating to find your place of peace and of power and commune with your Spirit Guide.

Stones and crystals have been used for protection and healing for centuries. You’ll learn the protective properties of various stones and how crystals are used in therapy to overcome energetic blockages in the Chakra System. You’ll also learn how to create your own amulet, talisman, and lucky meditation stone.

Course Motivation

This course is designed to give you an understanding of the Wiccan faith, its philosophy, and its approach to understanding the world we live in.

Think about the perceptions you might already have about Wicca and witches: evil women, pointy hats, and long noses perhaps? Images of witches are scattered throughout popular culture and rarely do any of them match up with contemporary witches, let alone Wicca. Yet, these images continue to influence how Wicca and witches are perceived. Indeed, anytime a practitioner of the faith is public with their religion, it can often create fear and lead to the loss of friends or jobs. Troops fighting in the U.S. military only recently were granted the ability to recognize their faith on their identification and gravestones; before, they were simply "other." Religion is a major part of nearly every society and changing the stereotypes associated with a faith can be difficult. Hopefully, as you progress throughout this course, you will come to understand that the images that are commonly associated with witches are just that, images, and have little to do with reality or religion.

Myths and Urban Legends About Wicca:

Misstatements abound, from pointy hats to devil worship, it's all bumble, bumble, toil, and trouble:

"Wiccans worship Satan," - This is a big one. In fact, Wiccans cannot worship "Satan" or "the Devil," because there is no such archetype in the Wiccan faith. Nor is there a concept of "Hell." Wiccans believe in a "Spirit World" -- a world where the spirits of the dead are watching over us. The shape of the pentagram is also used in conjunction with this myth as a moniker of the Devil. While those images may overlap in popular culture, Wiccans understand the pentagram to represent the elements earth, air, fire, and water -- with the fifth point of the star representing the spirit.

The Reality:

Wicca is a faith centered around honoring a God and a Goddess, the natural world, and being a positive force in the world. Hexes, the devil, and cauldrons full of potions are all the stuff of movies and Halloween decorations. The folklore surrounding the witches of popular fairy tales are just that, folklore and fairy tales. To understand this, let's look a little deeper.

The Philosophy of Wicca:

  • Wicca is a nature-based religion. What does nature-based mean? Nature-based means that the traditions of Wicca are steeped in the natural world. Wiccan holidays follow the seasons, and celebrate what changes with each new phase of the year. Wiccans focus in on the nature to learn and feel connected.
  • Honor, not worship. Wiccans honor their Gods, ancestors, and nature. Where other religions worship their god(s), Wiccans approach faith from a place of reverence, but also equality and mutual understanding. They learn from the Gods, their ancestors, and nature without being submissive.
  • Ancestry is important. Wiccans look to members of their family, and key figures in their heritage for lessons. Some even include them in religious rituals or celebrations. Wicca is as much about knowing what has come before, as understanding what is going on now.
  • Everything is cyclical. The seasons, life cycles, the waxing and waning of the moon; life moves in circles. The Wiccan calendar of sacred days is called the Wheel of the Year, it is oriented around the phases of the moon, the equinoxes, and seasons. The Wiccan faith moves with these changes and celebrates what happens in each phase.

The Takeaway:

What does all of this ultimately mean? Wiccans are just like everyone else. They don't wear pointy hats to match their long pointy noses. They believe in their gods, they respect nature, and they try to get by and be good people. Wiccans should not be shunned or feared. In fact, you've probably met several without ever knowing it.

The barnet mwgic pensil

With this newfound power, Lucy's creativity knows no bounds. She draws all sorts of fantastical creatures, from talking animals to mythical beasts. She brings dinosaurs back to life and gives them a whole new existence. Lucy even draws herself a set of wings and takes flight, exploring new and exciting places. However, as Lucy continues to use the magic pencil, she starts noticing the consequences of her creations. The things she draws require care and attention. The butterfly needs flowers to survive, the castle must have inhabitants, and the mythical beasts need food and shelter. Lucy also realizes that not everything she draws turns out the way she imagined. Sometimes her drawings become mischievous or even dangerous, leading her to face unexpected challenges. Throughout the story, Lucy learns important lessons about responsibility and the power of imagination. She discovers that her creations, no matter how wondrous, have a life of their own and require her care and nurturing. She understands that sometimes it's better to appreciate the beauty in her drawings without making them a part of the real world. In the end, Lucy decides to use the magic pencil sparingly. She embraces her creativity and imagination while also understanding the importance of balance. The magic pencil becomes her secret tool, bringing her joy and wonder in the moments she needs it most.
