preferred cutting oils?

For a long time for machining steel I have used an emulsion fluid which is mixed with water. There are several brands
listed in supply houses. For aluminum I uses Lard Oil, somewhat hard to find but this is A1. Perhaps if you can contact
an oil distributor the may be able to help.

Another vote for Tap Magic standard formula I use it for milling, turning, boring and of course tapping. On Aluminum only I use WD40. Castrol Moly-Dee gets my vote for all machining and small taps in tough material.

I have never cut gun barrels, so I don't know if it requires a special cutting oil or not.

On steel I use Oatey cutting oils. They have both clear and dark. I have found that clear seems to work a little better for me. They can be found at most DIY stores like Menards and Home Depot, and they are very reasonably priced.

On aluminum, I use WD40.

I like Castrol Moly-Dee for most things. I used to use Mystic Metal Mover. Before the formula change it was wonderful but the new formula isn't. Just my opinion.

Does anyone know from experienced or could make an educated guess on how this stuff would go?

For steel I've been using and old container of Mobil Omicron, It's a multi-purpose oil designed as both a lubricating & cutting oil. Mobil recently replaced it with what it now calls Mobilmet 426. When I eventually finish off this gallon I'm going to switch over Relton rapid tap, as its a chlorinated cutting fluid that should yield a better surface finish. For aluminium, I've just started using Relton A-9 as its about half the price of tap magic and works just as well, if not better.

Reviews for "Improving Accuracy: The Impact of Tap Magic Protap Cutting Fluid on SDS Drilling"

1. John - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the Tap Magic ProTap Cutting Fluid SDS. I found it to be very messy and it made my cutting tools gum up and rust. It also didn't provide a smooth cut as I had hoped. I will not be using this product again and would not recommend it.
2. Sarah - 1 star - This product did not work at all for me. I followed the instructions carefully, but it did not improve the cutting performance as promised. It left behind a sticky residue and made my workpiece harder to handle. I ended up switching to a different cutting fluid and had much better results. I cannot recommend Tap Magic ProTap Cutting Fluid SDS.
3. Mark - 2 stars - I was not impressed with the Tap Magic ProTap Cutting Fluid SDS. The fluid seemed to evaporate quickly, causing my cutting tools to overheat and wear down faster. It also had a strong odor that was bothersome to work with. Overall, I didn't find it to be effective and will be trying out other cutting fluids instead.
4. Emily - 2 stars - I had high hopes for the Tap Magic ProTap Cutting Fluid SDS, but it fell short of my expectations. It didn't seem to provide the lubrication and cooling that it claimed to offer. I ended up encountering more friction and resistance while cutting, which led to less precise results. I'm disappointed and won't be purchasing this product again.
5. Mike - 1 star - I had a terrible experience with the Tap Magic ProTap Cutting Fluid SDS. It caused my cutting tools to become dull quickly and left a sticky residue on everything. It was frustrating to clean up and ended up wasting a lot of my time. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
