The Talisman of Charlemagne is a legendary artifact that is said to possess great power and significance. It is associated with Charlemagne, also known as Charles the Great, who was the King of the Franks and later the Holy Roman Emperor in the 8th and 9th centuries. According to mythology, the Talisman of Charlemagne was a small golden box that contained a square-shaped piece of stone, known as the "Philosopher's Stone." This stone was believed to have magical properties and was said to be able to turn base metals into gold, grant immortality, and provide wisdom and knowledge to its possessor. The Talisman of Charlemagne was said to have been given to him by an angel, who instructed him on how to use its powers. Legend has it that with the help of the talisman, Charlemagne was able to achieve great victories in battle, unite much of Western Europe, and establish the Carolingian Empire.
Engravings of the reliquary began to appear in the 17th century CE and the artifact's association with Charlemagne was solidified in history. The talisman was kept in the possession of the Aachen Cathedral Treasury until being gifted to Josephine de Beauharnais, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, in the early 1800s. It is now kept in the French city of Reims in the Palace of Tau.
It wasn t until the 16th century when records of a precious jewel, container of hairs and milk of the Saint Virgin Mary appeared in a booklet of relics from Aachen, the capital of Charlemagne s Carolingian empire. Originating in the ninth century CE, the Talisman of Charlemagne is an ornate gold piece embedded with gemstones which supposedly belonged to the Carolingian king himself.
Legend has it that with the help of the talisman, Charlemagne was able to achieve great victories in battle, unite much of Western Europe, and establish the Carolingian Empire. The talisman was also said to have played a role in Charlemagne's personal life. It is said that he used its powers to heal the sick and wounded, and that it brought him great fortune and prosperity.

Emperor Charlemagne of The Holy Roman Empire, was well known for His many innovations and advancements of Culture after The Fall of Rome. He set the stage for Laws, Commerce etc. But The Emperor also had many more unusual encounters with the strange and unbelievable. The alleged ‘’Talisman of Charlemagne’’ may be such a 9th Century AD Urban Legend. A ‘’Collector’’ of ‘’Holy Relics’’, The Emperor was reportedly buried with a beautiful Golden and jewel encrusted Relic Holder/Necklace. Inside this ‘’Gift’’ was reportedly a hair taken from Jesus’ Mother, Mary. Legend states that it was Emperor Frederick I (Frederick Barbarossa), who had Charlemagne’s Tomb opened, to retrieve the valuable Relic. The Talisman would make it’s way into the hands of Napoleon Bonaparte’s Wife, Josephine. But by this time – The Legend stated that ‘’The Hair’’ had been removed and a small piece of wood from ‘’The True C’oss'’ (Christ’s execution), installed. In time, The Talisman would make it’s way to Aachen Cathedral (Germany), where it still is displayed (complete with ‘’True Cross’’ fragments). While most of The Talisman’s ‘’journey’’ is somewhat documented – these records only seem to accurately date from 1804. Some think that Josephine may have traded The Talisman with ‘’True Cross’’ fragments for ‘’Mary’s Hair’’. If so, no One is sure of what happened to it.

Overall, I found it to be a lackluster read that didn't live up to the hype.
