The Trials Within the Trial: The Saraj Good Witch Trials in Courtroom Drama

The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. The trials resulted in the executions of twenty people, fourteen of them women, and the imprisonment of around 150 others. The trials began in the town of Salem, now known as Danvers, when a group of young girls claimed to be possessed by the devil and accused several women of practicing witchcraft. The accusations quickly spread throughout the community, and many more people were accused and arrested. The trials were conducted in a highly secretive and informal manner, with little evidence and no legal representation for the accused. Many of the accused were subjected to physical torture in order to secure confessions, and those who did confess were often executed.
