The Witch's Secret: A Vow of Revenge

By admin

The Revenge of the Witch is a fantasy novel written by Joseph Delaney. It is the first book in The Last Apprentice series, also known as The Wardstone Chronicles. The story revolves around a young boy named Tom Ward, who becomes the apprentice of the local Spook, or exorcist, in order to learn how to fight and protect the county from supernatural creatures. The setting of the story takes place in a fictional county called the County, which is reminiscent of medieval England. The County is plagued by various malevolent creatures such as witches, boggarts, and ghosts. The Spook, who is responsible for maintaining the balance between the living and the supernatural, takes Tom as his apprentice.

In the early days of his writing career Joseph worked as a teacher at a Sixth Form College: his subjects were English, Film and Media Studies. He used to get up early and write every morning before work. That way he could write a book a year – which promptly got rejected! When the Americans bought the series he decided to give up teaching and write full time.

He first got the idea for the Spooks series when he moved to the village where he lives now and discovered there was a local boggart - a man like me needs boggarts around.
