What to Know

The Washington Wizards will head out on the road to face off against the Orlando Magic at 7:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Amway Center. The Wizards pulled off an upset win in their last outing, and are hoping to pull that off once more against the 10-point favorite Magic.

The Wizards' nine-game losing streak finally came to an end on Monday. They strolled past Detroit with points to spare, taking the game 126-107. The win was just what the Wizards needed coming off of a 136-108 loss in their prior match.

Among those leading the charge was Kyle Kuzma, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Magic waltzed into Sunday's match with six straight wins but they left with seven. They came out on top against Charlotte by a score of 130-117.

The Magic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cole Anthony led the charge by scoring 30 points along with 7 assists and 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Franz Wagner, who scored 30 points along with 7 rebounds.

Washington's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-14. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 120.8 points per game. As for Orlando, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Not only did both teams in this Wednesday's match win their last matches, they also took care of their bettors and covered the spread. Going forward, the Magic are the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by ten points. This contest will be Washington's tenth straight as the underdogs (so far over this stretch they are 4-5 against the spread).

The Wizards came up short against the Magic in their previous matchup back in March, falling 116-109. Can the Wizards avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.

Written by Eric P.

The Orlando Magic play host to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night in an Eastern Conference showdown from the Amway Center. This one has two teams on opposite sides of the standings squaring off, as the Wizards sit near the bottom of the standings and the Magic sit in third place. Washington was at least able to get back into the win column the last time out, while the Magic have been able to string together seven wins in a row. Last season, the teams split the four games against each other, as each looks to get off to a fast start in the series in 2023 in this one.

Wizards Back In Win Column

It has been a rough start for Washington this season and after 17 games, they find themselves right near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. A 2-8 record on the road hasn't helped matters and isn't likely to give a lot of confidence as they head into Wednesday night. They were able to grab the win on the road the last time out against Detroit but that likely had more to do with the ongoing issues surrounding the Pistons than the Wizards turning a corner. That is still their only win in their last ten games and while the schedule has been a challenge, there are some serious concerns surrounding the direction of the organization, especially as they go back on the road for this one.

The Wizards have a pair of injuries that they continue to deal with in this one, both in the backcourt. Ryan Tollins (knee) and Delon Wright (knee) both remain out for the foreseeable future, impacting some of the guard depth.

Washington's offense has impressed this season and could be an area where they find success in this one. They rank seventh in field-goal percentage and are third in field goals made and fourth in field goals attempted. Kyle Kuzma (23.4 ppg) has put together a strong season and has taken a massive step forward in leading this team. More was expected out of bringing in Jordan Poole (17.3 ppg) and if he can take a step forward as well, they'd have a top-tier scoring duo. The defensive side is where the concerns emerge, where ranking 28th in field-goal percentage defense is sure to continue to cause struggles.

Magic Putting Together Impressive Run

The Magic started last season strong and have done the same in 2023, running off to a 12-5 start and finding themselves in third-place in the Eastern Conference standings. With a 7-2 record at home, they've been able to continue to build an advantage at home and will be looking to lean on that in this one. They've won seven in a row coming into this one, including wins against a number of NBA Finals contenders, as it continues to look like the Magic's youth core is growing into their own. Wednesday night's game marks their fifth-straight at home, which in itself should give some confidence for this group as they continue to find consistency.

The wins have continued to come even despite some key injuries for this team. Jonathan Isaac (ankle) is questionable, as he continues to try to battle off injuries. Wendell Carter Jr. (hand) and Markelle Fultz (knee) both remain out as well and while it seems it would impact their depth, they've continued to find wins.

Orlando's offense has struggled at times, though should find success against a Washington team that plays a fast tempo and allows quite a few points. With five double-figure scorers at their disposal, the Magic lean on their wide range of scoring to find success. On the defensive side, the Magic will want to slow things down and lean on their strong perimeter defense to find success. They rank top ten in three-point defense, though will have their hands full against Kuzma and Poole. The defensive side has set the tone during their winning streak and that is expected to be the case again in this one.

These players have helped the team achieve success and make it to the playoffs multiple times. One of the most memorable moments in the history of the Orlando Magic was when they reached the NBA Finals in 1995. Led by Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway, the team made it to the Finals but unfortunately lost to the Houston Rockets.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Rating:

The Magic will come away with the easy win in this one and lean on their scoring depth to make it difficult for the Wizards to find stops. On the defensive end, their ability to find success in keying in on Kuzma and Poole, will be the difference in making life difficult for the Wizards in this one. The perimeter defense is exceptional, while Orlando's ability to dominate on the boards should give them plenty of second-chance opportunities, while also limiting those of Washington. Add in being at home and Washington's noted struggles away from home, especially against quality opposition, and it makes sense the Magic will be heavy favorites. Having covered the spread in nine of their last ten games, that trend will continue into this one.

Prediction: Magic (-10)

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

Both of these teams have plenty of scoring options and depth, which gives the likelihood that scoring will add up. Washington has Poole and Kuzma to find success, while they'll be looking to increase the tempo and speed up the rate of scoring in this one. For Orlando, they have one of the deepest scoring breakdowns in the NBA but their ability to generate second-chance opportunities and points is what will really drive up their scoring. The over has hit in four of Orlando's last five games and in two of the last three meetings last season betweeen the two. There expects to be plenty of more points in this one in what could be one of the highest-scoring games of the night.
