History

The Magic Fountain was built by Carles Buigas for the International Expo in 1929, on the site where Josep Puig i Cadafalch's Four Columns had stood before being demolished in 1928. They were later rebuilt in 2010.

How it works

The spectacular Magic Fountain is very popular, and is best known for its sound-and-light shows. Around 2,600 litres of water a second flow through the fountain's three concentric pools, driven by a water-recycling system.

Sustainability

In recent years, the traditional lighting has been progressively replaced with LED technology, due to its low consumption and the coloured lighting it offers. The Magic Fountain has also been using groundwater since 2010.

Magic Fountain

Designed for the 1929 Universal Exhibition by the engineer Carles Buigas, the Magic Fountain of Barcelona was restored in 1992 for the Olympic Games and has proved a popular attraction ever since.

This huge fountain bubbles and bursts, spews and spouts cascades of water in a sensational show set to music and lit by every colour of the rainbow. Thousands of people gather each night during summer to enjoy the spectacle, sitting on the many steps that lead up to the MNAC museum and watching the sunset from the vantage point of Montjuic mountain, under which the Magic Fountain sits.

***NOTE: Dues to drought warnings the Fountain is currently not in operation. Check out our BIG list of other fun activities here.***

It’s not highbrow culture, but it is a lot of fun, and on a warm evening in particular the atmosphere is great.

How Do I Get There?

The address of the Magic Fountain is Plaça de Carles Buigas.

To arrive, you can take the metro to Plaça Espanya station, which is on both the green and the red lines. Reviews for "Declutter Your Home with Ontel Magic Vibrant Tracks"

- Sarah - 2/5 stars - I was really disappointed with the Ontel magic vibrant tracks. The tracks were constantly coming apart and not staying connected, making it nearly impossible to build a functioning track. The vibrancy of the tracks also quickly faded after just a few uses, so it didn't live up to its name. Overall, I would not recommend this product as it did not meet my expectations.
- John - 1/5 stars - The Ontel magic vibrant tracks were a complete waste of money. The tracks were flimsy and would easily break even with gentle play. The cars that came with the set were also very poor quality and didn't work properly on the tracks. The concept of the product was great, but the execution was extremely poor. Save your money and look for a different track set.
- Emily - 2/5 stars - I had high hopes for the Ontel magic vibrant tracks but was let down with the poor quality. The tracks were difficult to put together and would constantly pop apart, making it frustrating and time-consuming to play with. The cars would also frequently get stuck on certain sections of the track, which made it hard to have an enjoyable playing experience. I wouldn't recommend this product to others.
