It has been quite some time since that fateful night when you chose to unleash your powers upon me and condemn me to a life of eternal darkness. While I must admit, at first, I was furious with you and the cruelty you displayed, as time has passed, I have come to see things in a different light. The night you turned me into a vampire, I was filled with anger and resentment. I could not understand why you would do such a thing to me, someone who had never wronged you. And yet, as the years went by, I began to realize that perhaps there was a greater purpose behind your actions.
Scarlet Witch began in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants but soon switched over to the side of good and joined the Avengers. She has also worked with the Lady Liberators, the West Coast Avengers, the Defenders, the Secret Defenders, and Force Works. Scarlet Witch is one of the most recognizable females of The Avengers. Both women have important loyalties and a lengthy resumes when it comes to affiliations.
While Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful superheroes in her universe, her lack of control cannot give her the edge she needs to beat Vixen s ability to do pretty much anything any animal can do. Vixen s costume has changed with the times but her most famous outfit is a bright yellow body suit and matching gloves accentuated by her magically enhances claws and of course, the Tantu Totem.
And yet, as the years went by, I began to realize that perhaps there was a greater purpose behind your actions. Living as a vampire has given me insights and abilities I never could have imagined. I have seen the world in a different way, with heightened senses and unparalleled strength.
Vixen (Mari Jiwe McCabe) (Comic Book Character)
In ancient Africa, there was a legend that the warrior Tantu asked Anansi the Spider to create a totem that would give the wearer all of the powers of the animal kingdom, if they would use the power to protect the innocent. As shown in the pages of Animal Man, it is possible that the "Anansi" who Tantu met, may have been a member of the alien race who gave Buddy Baker the ability to "tap the morphogenetic field" � or, as shown in the pages of Justice League, the aliens may have been Anansi in disguise. This field allows Buddy to imitate the abilities of nearby animals. According to the Animal Man series, Mari's Tantu totem may tap into that same field. Tantu used the totem to become Africa's first legendary hero. The totem was later passed down to Tantu's descendants until it reached the McCabes.
Growing up in a small African village in the fictional nation of M'Changa, Mari Jiwe McCabe hears the legend of the "Tantu Totem" from her mother. Sometime later, Mari's mother is killed by poachers and she is raised by her father Reverend Richard Jiwe, the village priest. Reverend Jiwe himself is killed by his half-brother (Mari's uncle) General Maksai. Maksai wants the Tantu Totem, which Jiwe had been in possession of.
She moves to America, where she establishes an identity as Mari McCabe and gets a job as a model in New York City. She uses her newfound wealth to travel the world. On a trip back to Africa, she comes across her uncle and takes back the Tantu Totem, using its power to become the costumed superhero Vixen.
Model and super-hero with animal powers, Mari ended up joining the Justice League of America under Aquaman's reorganization of the League. Later, after the League fell apart, she took a vacation, which was ruined by drug runners who killed her companions on the photo shoot. She joined the Suicide Squad to gain retribution for her friends, and ended up staying with them. She was particularly attracted to Bronze Tiger, but drifted away from the Squad after Ben began to lose his sanity. She did return when Amanda reformed the Squad, but left after she was severely wounded. She met up with Animal Man for a time, worked briefly with the Justice League Task Force, then joined Checkmate, and later, the Ultra-Marines.

After this, Vixen made only two appearances as a solo crime fighter: once fighting poachers in India and then against the techno-psycho criminal, Admiral Cerebrus. In fact, she was a reluctant hero until the Justice League of America was reorganized by Aquaman. She applies for full-time League membership and is accepted. During her time with the JLA, the totem is taken from her by General Maksai, who still sought its power. The totem would only grant its full power to those who would use it to protect the innocent, and it causes Maksai to be transformed into a raging beast. Maksai dies in battle with Vixen. When the team faces the killer android Amazo, Vixen and several of her teammates are beaten into unconsciousness and then left bound and gagged in a walled off pit. Vixen saves the lives of herself and her fellow Leaguers by using her powers to shatter her bonds and dig to freedom. Vixen continues with that particular incarnation of the JLA until two members were killed, Steel and Vibe, and it was disbanded by the Martian Manhunter.

These are things that I will carry with me for the rest of eternity, and I must admit, they have not been easy to bear. Yet, despite my struggles, I cannot help but wonder about your motives. Were you seeking revenge? Did you believe that turning me into a vampire would bring you some sort of solace or satisfaction? Or were you simply playing with the lives of mortals, finding amusement in our suffering? These questions continue to haunt me, and I doubt I will ever find the answers. But despite the pain and uncertainty, I must acknowledge the profound impact you have had on my life. You have forced me to confront my own weaknesses and vulnerabilities, to tap into a strength I never knew existed within me. You have pushed me to my limits, testing my resolve and determination. And for that, I am both grateful and resentful. In my heart, I cannot forgive you for the destruction you have wrought upon my existence. But I will not allow your curse to define me. I will continue to fight against the darkness that you have thrust upon me, seeking a way to find redemption and inner peace. And who knows, perhaps one day, I will be able to look upon you without bitterness or anger in my heart. Until then, dear curse-casting vampiress, I bid you farewell.
