The numbers are arranged in such a way that the sum of the numbers in each row, column, and diagonal is the same. The ripple method starts by placing the number 1 in the middle of the top row. The next number, 2, is then placed in the cell diagonally up and to the right. If a number would be placed outside of the grid, it wraps around to the opposite side.
