Studies In Medievalism XXXIII : (En)gendering Medievalism

Essays on the post-modern reception and interpretation of the Middle Ages.Though Studies in Medievalism has hosted many essays on gender, this is the first volume devoted specifically to that theme. The first part features four short essays that directly address manifestations of sexism in postmedieval responses to the Middle Ages: gender substitutions in a Grail Quest episode of the 2023 television series Mrs. Davis, repurposed misogyny in the last two episodes of Game of Thrones (2011-19), traditional gender stereotypes in Capital One's credit card commercials from 2000 to 2013, and "shaggy" medievalism in Robert Eggers' 2022 film The Northman. The second part contains ten longer essays, which collectively continue to demonstrate the ubiquity of gender issues and the extraordinary flexibility of approaches to them. The authors discuss the misogynistic sexualization of Grendel's mother in Parke Godwin's 1995 fantasy novel The Tower of Beowulf, in Graham Baker's 1999 film Beowulf, in three episodes from the television series Xena: Warrior Princess, and in Robert Zemeckis's 2007 film Beowulf; gender substitution in David Lowery's 2021 film The Green Knight and in Kinoku Nasu's and Takashi Takeuchi's anime series Fate (2004-); female authorship of three early-nineteenth-century plays about court ladies' medieval empowerment; extraordinary violence in medievalist video games; nationalism in fake nineteenth-century medievalist documents and in contemporary online fora; racial discrimination in video gaming and in Jim Crow literature; and the condemnation of racism in Maria Dahvana Headley's 2018 novel The Mere Wife.elevision series Xena: Warrior Princess, and in Robert Zemeckis's 2007 film Beowulf; gender substitution in David Lowery's 2021 film The Green Knight and in Kinoku Nasu's and Takashi Takeuchi's anime series Fate (2004-); female authorship of three early-nineteenth-century plays about court ladies' medieval empowerment; extraordinary violence in medievalist video games; nationalism in fake nineteenth-century medievalist documents and in contemporary online fora; racial discrimination in video gaming and in Jim Crow literature; and the condemnation of racism in Maria Dahvana Headley's 2018 novel The Mere Wife.elevision series Xena: Warrior Princess, and in Robert Zemeckis's 2007 film Beowulf; gender substitution in David Lowery's 2021 film The Green Knight and in Kinoku Nasu's and Takashi Takeuchi's anime series Fate (2004-); female authorship of three early-nineteenth-century plays about court ladies' medieval empowerment; extraordinary violence in medievalist video games; nationalism in fake nineteenth-century medievalist documents and in contemporary online fora; racial discrimination in video gaming and in Jim Crow literature; and the condemnation of racism in Maria Dahvana Headley's 2018 novel The Mere Wife.elevision series Xena: Warrior Princess, and in Robert Zemeckis's 2007 film Beowulf; gender substitution in David Lowery's 2021 film The Green Knight and in Kinoku Nasu's and Takashi Takeuchi's anime series Fate (2004-); female authorship of three early-nineteenth-century plays about court ladies' medieval empowerment; extraordinary violence in medievalist video games; nationalism in fake nineteenth-century medievalist documents and in contemporary online fora; racial discrimination in video gaming and in Jim Crow literature; and the condemnation of racism in Maria Dahvana Headley's 2018 novel The Mere Wife.y medievalist documents and in contemporary online fora; racial discrimination in video gaming and in Jim Crow literature; and the condemnation of racism in Maria Dahvana Headley's 2018 novel The Mere Wife.

Wear Your Angel Number On Your Sleeve (Or Necklace)

Do you make a wish every time the clock strikes 11:11? Or can a "555" on a license plate make you gasp? Then you're likely aware — at least somewhat — of angel numbers. If not, here's the lowdown: Angel numbers are repetitive number sequences (333, 1111, 6868, etc.) that many believe serve as validation you're on the right path or are meaningful messages from spirit guides or guardian angels. So if you're looking to manifest something specific in 2024, you can keep a specific angel number close to your heart (and in your mirror reflection).

The most popular three-digit angel numbers have generally accepted meanings, from 111 (a reminder to trust your gut) to 999 (a sign there's something to release). You'll also find our favorite necklaces along with a couple of charms and a bracelet to wear solo or layer up. (Just note that most pieces in this roundup are available in several angel numbers and metals, and they can be personalized!). Click ahead to see our favorite angel number necklaces and a few other pieces of angel number jewelry.

Chapter 1601: Already Started

Chapter Text

Already Started

The female Fanatic and Jill moved away from the area and left the Hotel 6 behind them. It was time to track down the enemy she was sent back in time to stop. It was Skynet. Once they were away from the immediate area, she decided to see if there was a vehicle she could 'borrow'. She didn't want it to be too close to the area where the previous police activity occurred.

Jill took one look back in the direction of the hotel. She turned her attention back to Jackie.

"What do you think was really going on there?" Jill asked.

The female Fanatic looked back as well. She needed to move forward. She checked the vehicles as she did.

"I believe it was part of a bigger group to force females into sexual slavery." The female Fanatic said. "I think the car up ahead looks promising."

Jill turned her attention to the car. She could see the window was down on the driver's side. She understood it would make entry into the vehicle much easier. She followed behind Jackie. She was a few feet away as they neared it.

The female Fanatic took one more look around as she approached the car with the open window. She was about to walk up to it and open the door. She spotted what was inside of it. She quickly veered off. She motioned for Jill to keep going.

There was a man inside of it on the rear seat. He appeared to be sleeping. She would have hated to have sat down in the driver's seat and the man wake up behind her. She was glad his pants were on and nothing was hanging out of them. She quickly rejoined with Jill further down the sidewalk.

"There was someone in it. They were asleep on the back seat." The female Fanatic said. "They may have been strung out. Let's look for another one."

Jill looked around the area. She could see there were a few restaurants scattered on the street. There were also a few other motels on the other side of the street. They appeared to be rather old. The building they were in was of more modern construction, even if it wasn't new. She spotted something sticking out behind one of the seedy looking motels. It looked very familiar to her.

"Is it the same delivery van we saw earlier?" Jill asked.

The female Fanatic looked over to where she indicated. She felt disgusted when she spotted it.

"It sure looks like it from here." The female Fanatic said.

Jill figured it was more of the same. More than likely, there would be other locations where they would obtain females. She touched her Beretta and the revolver she carried. She didn't like what they were up to. It almost happened to them earlier.

"I think we should put a stop to it." Jill said. "I know it's not part of your mission."

The female Fanatic thought about it for a moment. She believed her mission was fluid at this point in time. She didn't care for what almost happened earlier either. She figured they could kill two birds with one stone.

"We need another set of wheels." The female Fanatic said. "I think the delivery van would serve our purpose for right now. The occupants will no longer need it once we're done with them."

Jill understood what she meant. It was time to make a statement. If someone were to come after them once they took it, so be it. If they could put a dent in what was happening behind the scenes, the risk would be worth it.

"Let's go." Jill said. "We need to make sure it's the same one first."

The female Fanatic was able to get a look at the driver earlier. She thought she would be able to recognize him anyway. She didn't want to disrupt anything otherwise.

"I'll know the driver if I see him." The female Fanatic said. "If it's a legitimate delivery, we'll just move on."

The female Fanatic and Jill headed for the street corner. They needed to hurry before the delivery van pulled away.

Allison and Vanna were with Riley in her room.

After a while, they switched things around and Allison and Riley worked on Vanna.

Riley knew the time seemed to slip away from her. She wondered how long it would be until Derek returned back to the room. Right now she didn't really care, even if she did.

She was pleased how Vanna and Allison could work on her as a team and each other at the same time. It was clear they were used to it. She missed all the love the girls shared with each other. Now they were all more than willing to share with her.

"I need to check on Precious." Riley said. "I don't know when Derek will return either."

Allison looked at Vanna. She wondered how things were supposed to work out.

"He knows about all this right?" Allison asked.

Riley never gave any details to Derek.

"He knows I asked to have a female 'friend'." Riley said. "He has no idea it's all of you."

Riley went out of the room.

Vanna didn't want to create an incident, or make things awkward.

"Maybe we should take off." Vanna said.

"I don't want any problems." Allison said. "Derek and Kyle know us. We share with all the females. We never take anything from anyone else. We only borrow them."

Vanna needed to take care of some things in the lab. She felt she neglected her work ever since she went on the cruise. There were things she needed to take care of.

"I need to do my job too." Vanna said.

Allison kissed her and smiled.

"This is a lot more fun." Allison said.

The girls gathered up their things and were ready to leave.

"I want to see if Precious needs me." Vanna said. "I think she will."

Allison gave Vanna a kiss.

"I'll meet you back in our room." Allison said.

Vanna went towards Precious' room.

Allison went out the front door.

John watched Jesse and Cam-Holly. They worked on each other now.

He really wondered how he was going to be able to explain everything to Cameron. He didn't even think he could explain any of it, let alone all of it.

He was with all of the Metal girls, and all of the human girls at the base, except Riley, as well as the girls from the ship.

John dozed off. He was really beat.

Jesse and Cam-Holly finished up.

"I hate to 'eat and run', but I'm done here." Jesse said.

Cam-Holly looked at John.

"Should I carry him back to his room?" Cam-Holly asked.

Jesse thought it would be better for Vanna to find him in the bed. She wanted to snag Allison and head for Claire's room.

"You might want to check on the others first." Jesse said.

Cam-Holly wanted to straighten the room up. Allison wasn't always the best housekeeper.

"I'll do it in a few minutes." Cam-Holly said.

Jesse went outside into the hall. She spotted Allison exit from Riley's room. It was just who she wanted to see.

She heard someone behind her. It was Camille-Hanna.

"Claire is in her room." Camille-Hanna said.

"I'll take it as an invitation." Jesse said.

Camille-Hanna knew Claire was sweet on Jesse these days. No invitation was necessary. She wanted to keep Claire away from the Command Center.

"She's always happy to see you." Camille-Hanna said

Jesse nodded towards Vanna's room.

"John and Cam-Holly are in there." Jesse said.

Camille-Hanna received new instructions from CamNet.

"I have an assignment." Camille-Hanna said. "Too bad Holly is in Cam's chassis. I could use a ride along."

Jesse looked at Allison at the end of the hall.

"Gail is around here somewhere." Jesse said. "I'm going to be busy with Claire."

Camille-Hanna was updated by CamNet.

"I know where she's at." Camille–Hanna said.

She headed for Riley's room. She passed Allison on her way back to her room.

Jesse still stood outside the door to Vanna's room. She moved away and motioned for Allison to follow her. She didn't want Cam-Holly to hear what she planned to do.

She took Allison by the hand.

"Today is the day." Jesse said.

Allison swallowed hard. She knew what it meant. She'd started to have second thoughts.

Jesse could see Allison might 'craw-fish' on her.

She gave Allison a deep kiss.

"You promised." Jesse whispered.

Allison looked into Jesse's dark eyes. She did promise. She meant it too when she did. She was intoxicated with love and lust at the time.

"I'll give it a try." Allison said. "No promises once things start, or don't start."

Allison looked back and hoped to see Vanna. No such luck. She was on her own as Jesse led her around the corner. They passed by the lab and the infirmary.

They closed up on Claire's room.

Jesse stopped Allison. She didn't want to make it seem like an obligation. She wanted it to be something done willingly.

"It's only if you really want to." Jesse said. "You know what I want."

Allison swallowed hard. She reached for the door handle.

"I'm game." Allison said. "I've thought about it enough. She's just like one of the girls."

Jesse neared a 'finish' as they went into the room. Allison climbed naked into bed next to Claire.

Jesse sat on the corner of the bed. All three of them were naked.

Claire was asleep.

The movement of the bed woke Claire up. She saw 'Camille-Hanna' was back.

"I'm glad you're back already." Claire said as she moved over the top of her and kissed her.

Jesse stood up when Claire moved over the top of Allison. Claire didn't see her. She finished almost instantly as she watched them. It was time to get in the middle.

Riley left Vanna and Allison to check on Precious. Samantha and Gail were in Precious' room.

"Everything is under control." Samantha said.

Gail was thrilled by Precious. She looked forward to taking care of Jesse's baby once Young Jesse delivered it.

Vanna soon joined them.

"I think Precious will need me soon." Vanna said.

Riley hoped she hadn't taken too much. Allison and Vanna finished her off. There was next to nothing to begin with. There never was. It always left her with a negative feeling.

Camille-Hanna passed Allison and went to the nursery.

She could hear the girls talking in Precious' room. She went there to see what was happening.

They all greeted her as she entered.

Vanna was about to nurse Precious.

Gail received a mission from CamNet a short time ago. She wasn't thrilled until she found out the nature of it. It was to assist Derek and Kyle with an abused female.

A round of kisses was shared.

Camille-Hanna and Gail departed. Samantha offered to go in either of their places. They declined. This was a personal mission now.

Vanna took Precious to the nursery.

Riley and Samantha headed back to Riley's room.

Savannah decided it was time to share with Young Allison. It should have happened years ago.

Young Allison was a little unsure what to do next.

"I've never done this before." Young Allison said.

Young Allison was as nervous as she was excited. She didn't think she would be able to satisfy Savannah like the other girls could. Her only experience was with herself. There was only so much she could do by herself.

Savannah could see how nervous Young Allison was. It wasn't the atmosphere she wanted. There was no need to rush things.

"Let's look around the cabin first and then at the houseboat." Savannah said. "It's really nice. You need to relax a little and just be yourself. Things will happen naturally that way. It's what I want for you and for me."

Young Allison was relieved to hear it. She still felt out of place.

"Thanks." Young Allison said. "I'll follow your lead."

Savannah showed Young Allison around the cabin. They both liked the view of the lake and the mountains.

"It would be nice to live here." Young Allison said.

Savannah didn't like Young Allison to spend so much time in the bunker at the Young residence.

"The view is a little nicer than the bunker." Savannah said. "You need to get out more."

Young Allison thought she got out enough, especially lately. She already went on a few operations with Savannah. She took in the fresh mountain air.

"This must be what it's like it is to get away from it all." Young Allison said.

Savannah looked down at the houseboat. Cameron and Anna waited there.

"It would be. There are some things I don't want to get away from." Savannah said.

Young Allison followed her gaze. She saw Cameron and Anna waiting nervously there.

"Me either." Young Allison said.

They headed for the dock.

Savannah looked at Young Allison.

"Whatever happens - happens." Savannah said. "You'll feel it all when it's time."

Young Allison smiled nervously. She didn't want to force things to happen. She did want them to happen.

Anna looked back nervously at the cabin from the house boat.

Cameron could see Anna was a little concerned. The 'Natural Order' was about to emerge.

"Today is the day." Cameron said.

They talked for a while.

Cameron already made plans about what would happen going forward. She wanted to make sure Anna understood what was expected.

"After you're with her, I'm going to borrow your chassis." Cameron said. "You know the drill."

Anna knew what Cameron meant on both counts.

"It will be my first time." Anna said. "Are you going to take it from me too?"

Cameron faced Anna. She was going to claim the virginity of every female chassis. It included some of the ones in her menagerie at her base. There were several of them she would need to use in darkness to prevent John from feeling self conscious, or allowing his mind to drift where it shouldn't. She planned to have the first experience in all of them.

"Yes." Cameron said. "You may have one time with John on your own later on. It will be your first time. It won't matter if I've already 'broken in' your chassis."

Anna felt it did matter. She didn't want her virginity stripped away like Cameron did to all the other Metal girls. If she resisted, Cameron might deactivate her. She would try to get something for herself out of it. She believed it would be more important going forward.

"I want to be with Young Allison before you." Anna said. "I've at least earned the privilege."

Cameron looked at Anna. It was what she wanted for herself.

"I'll think about it." Cameron said.

Anna wanted a better answer. Thinking wasn't good enough.

"What about what I want?" Anna asked. "You're taking something from me which can only happen once. You owe me. I'm you too. You know it."

Cameron wanted to be with Young Allison. She wanted to be her first Metal girl. Anna was a little more demanding than the other Metal girls were. She also knew Savannah or Young Allison could intervene and stop her from using Anna's chassis at all. She might have to barter some. The girls had the power to 'order' her to do, or not do, something. Maybe it would come down to who they loved more. She would need to tread lightly. Maybe she spoke too soon, but didn't think so. Today would be loaded with 'firsts'.

"I'll think about it." Cameron said. "Here they come."

Anna thought about what else Cameron said. She sacrificed enough already. Her appearance mattered to her, just as Cameron's mattered to her.

"Why don't you start your regression?" Anna asked. "I like how I look now. Haven't I given up enough?"

Cameron started out to greet Savannah and Young Allison. She paused and looked back at Anna.

"I already started it yesterday." Cameron said.

Anna looked at Cameron more closely. It appeared Cameron was deeply involved in this whole situation.

"How far back will you go?" Anna asked.

Cameron wanted to be as much like Young Allison as possible. They almost looked completely identical, there was still a little difference. It wasn't very much at all.

"I'm going back to Young Allison's appearance." Cameron said. "You can think about yours."

Anna looked down at herself. She didn't want anything to change.

"I'm good for now." Anna said.

Cameron looked at Anna for a brief moment. She realized Anna wanted to stay competitive with her. They both wanted to be as desirable to the girls as possible going forward. She needed to get her head back in the game. Savannah and Young Allison were at the dock. She wanted to remind Anna who was in charge, even if Anna ran her program.

"I want John to be happy. Your sheath will excite him the most of all the ones I've 'broken in'. It's why I saved you for last." Cameron said. "Everyone sacrifices for John Connor."

There are some who believe
All the answers are within
Sometimes it's difficult to tell
Just were things end or begin

There are always a few
Who like to belittle and scoff
They are usually the same ones
Who missed the last kickoff

No one likes to fail
Or end up on their rump
When they take the plunge
And decided to make the jump

Some are made to feel
Like they've committed an offense
When all the good things
Are about to commence

When one decides to approach
Things part way and half hearted
There's a good chance
They may have already started

Reviews for "Prepare for a Year of Magic: Best Festivals Coming in 2022"

- Jane - 1/5 - I had high hopes for the Magic Festival 2022, but sadly it ended up being a huge disappointment. The organization was chaotic, with long lines to enter and disorganized schedules. The performances were lackluster, and it seemed like the magicians were just going through the motions. Overall, it felt like a cash grab rather than a genuine celebration of magic. I would not recommend attending this festival.
- Mark - 2/5 - While I appreciate the effort that goes into organizing a magic festival, I was not impressed with Magic Festival 2022. The ticket prices were exorbitant for what was actually offered. The shows I attended were underwhelming and failed to captivate the audience. The lineup of magicians was not as impressive as advertised, leaving me feeling like I wasted my time and money. I hope the organizers can improve the quality of the festival in the future.
- Sarah - 2/5 - Magic Festival 2022 fell short of my expectations. The venue was overcrowded, making it difficult to fully enjoy the performances. The sound system was also subpar, with the audio often being muffled or distorted. The lack of variety in the shows was disappointing, as it felt like I was watching the same tricks over and over again. The festival has potential, but it needs significant improvements to be worth the investment.
