From the Shadows to the Spotlight: The Ludwig Snare's Black Magic Coating

By admin

The Ludwig snare with black magic coating is a drum that offers a unique and distinct sound for drummers. The black magic coating gives the snare a sleek and stylish look, while also enhancing the tone and projection of the drum. It is a popular choice among drummers who want a snare that stands out visually and sonically. The black magic coating is a proprietary finish developed by Ludwig, designed to add depth and warmth to the drum's sound. It is a thin layer of black coating applied to the drum shell, which helps to dampen unwanted overtones and create a focused and controlled sound. This coating also adds durability to the drum, protecting it from scratches and wear.

Acrolites are great drums. Even though there is this perception and prejudice they are a student quality drum. Same shell as the Supraphonic, Naked, Powdercoated, or Black Galaxy Sparkle, it is still a Ludalloy shell. Eight Bow Tie lugs instead of Ten Imperials, but essentially a much better than STUDENT quality drum. Far better than a Standard. Sturdier than a COB Rogers Powertone (also a great drum), always rounder than a 60s Slingly six lugger, far less expensive than a Krupa Radio King, sounds better than gretsch, less finnicky than a Dynasonic, the Acro is a great general purpose workhorse snare. You will never buy anything new in the price range of a used Acrolite, that will be as satisfying or serve you just as good.

We found O-rings efficient but too stifling and settled on a single Moongel which nipped back the overtones while still allowing each drum s character to shine through.

Reviews for "Unleash Your Inner Drum Hero: The Ludwig Snare with Black Magic Coating"

1. John - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the Ludwig snare with black magic coating. The first thing that bothered me was the sound quality. It just didn't have the punch and crispness that I was expecting. The black magic coating also started peeling off after just a few uses, which was really frustrating. I expected better durability from a reputable brand like Ludwig. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this snare to anyone looking for a high-quality, long-lasting drum.
2. Sarah - 1 star - I had high hopes for the Ludwig snare with black magic coating, but it fell short in every aspect. The sound was dull and lacking definition, even after adjusting and tuning. The black magic coating also didn't hold up well, with chips and scratches appearing quickly. This was really disappointing, as I wanted a snare that would not only sound great but also look sleek. I ended up returning it and investing in a different snare from a different brand.
3. Mark - 3 stars - While the Ludwig snare with black magic coating wasn't terrible, it didn't impress me either. The sound was decent, but it lacked the depth and richness I was hoping for. The black magic coating started showing signs of wear after minimal use, which made me question its durability. Additionally, the overall build quality seemed average at best. For the price I paid, I expected better performance and longevity. I wouldn't recommend this snare for serious drummers looking for a standout sound and reliable build.
