Golden Magic Gardenia. We acquired our original plants of this cultivar from South Africa. It is one of the largest and most vigorous Gardenias that I have ever seen. The 5-6" flowers open white, but almost immediately turn a medium yellow. Because of its vigor, I think that it can easily get to 6-8'. Professor Fred Thode at Clemson always admonished his students that we should site Gardenias in the landscape so that they don't get early morning sun. This is because when they are heavily frozen on a cold winter morning, if sun immediately strikes them, it appears that they are thawed so rapidly, that it causes a rupturing of the cells of the leaf. Whether or not this is what actually happens, it is very obvious that there is far more cold damage on gardenias here when they are planted on an eastern exposure. When planted on the north or westerly side of a structure, even though it is colder, there is far less cold damage, because the plant's tissue has already thawed by the time the sun strikes them. Thus, if one is trying to grow Gardenias out of their "range," one should take this into consideration. As with all Gardenias, one needs to keep eyes open for the ubiquitous white flies which consider Gardenias as their filet mignon. All gardenias are susceptible to white flies, which in turn secret a sticky honey dew and then sooty mold which grows on this, soon follows. So to prevent the sooty mold, the best cure that we have found is using "worm castings." Sounds too good to be true. But this material which passes through the earthworm prevents white flies and also fertilizes your plant and it is completely natural. WOW! Just amazing.

Reviews for "From Seed to Garden: Growing Golden Magic Gardenias from Scratch"

1. John - 1 star - This perfume was a total disappointment for me. It claims to be a goldrn magic gardenia scent, but I couldn't detect any gardenia at all. Instead, all I could smell was a heavy, cloying floral scent that gave me an instant headache. The fragrance was overpowering and stayed on my skin for hours, which was very unpleasant. I would not recommend this perfume to anyone who's looking for a true gardenia fragrance.
2. Sarah - 2 stars - I had high hopes for the Goldrn Magic Gardenia perfume, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. While the bottle is quite attractive, the fragrance itself was a letdown. It smelled artificial and slightly soapy on my skin. I was hoping for a more natural and fresh gardenia scent, but this perfume missed the mark. Additionally, the lasting power was disappointing; the fragrance seemed to fade away within a few hours. Overall, I was not impressed with this perfume and won't be repurchasing it.
3. Emily - 2.5 stars - The Goldrn Magic Gardenia perfume has a unique and intriguing name, but the fragrance itself didn't live up to the hype for me. While it had a pleasant floral aroma, I found it to be quite generic and reminiscent of many other floral perfumes on the market. It lacked the distinct gardenia scent I was hoping for. The longevity of the fragrance was average, lasting around 4-5 hours on my skin. Overall, while the perfume was okay, it didn't have the wow factor that I was expecting from a fragrance with such an interesting name.
