First of all, this is horror movie for kids at the same time it is not childish. Watchable for adults and recommended for kids.

The cast is good and story is OK. The CG work is adequate for the movie. The story is bit templated and predictable but it was overcome by the entertaining screenplay. There is no dull moment and I really loved the skeleton fight sequence.

There is no scary sequences and beware of the arachnophobia. Best movie to enjoy with family in weekend.

I really can't believe all of these bad ratings. This was a great kids Halloween film and it was actually scary in parts and I'm an adult. There were some laugh out loud scenes as well as good special effects and jumps. It is an all around entertaining family film. It definitely exceeded my expectations. Marlon Wayans was great in the lead and had great chemistry with the actress who plays his daughter and of course his wife. Scenes with spiders and clowns literally were creepy. I jumped in several parts and was surprised by that given it is a children's film. Those who are bashing it need to lighten up. What did you expect. an Oscar worthy film?

A family arrive in a small town on the eve of Halloween, and discover a community with a love of Halloween, and an interesting history.

Despite some of the less than favourable reviews, I really did enjoy this, it plays exactly as you'd expect, it's super camp, it's outrageous, but it's funny and heartwarming, and there's some really nice moments between Sydney and her dad. Some nice light entertainment for a change.

It's not afraid to poke fun of the usual horror stereotypes, it even dares to take the Mickey out of vegan food.

Marlon Wayans was great I thought, Kelly Rowland was sweet, nice acting in general, character wise I thought The Mayor and Victoria were fun.

They've definitely left this open for a second, and after this, bring it on. Don't go into this expecting horror, expect an entertaining comedy caper.

Look, this movie is a whole lot like others of it's kind, ehm Goosebumps. So what? You can like them both. This is a fun, family Halloween movie that does better than most and is worth a watch.

The performances are good and most of the visual effects look pretty cool. It's got a little lag in the middle, but it's still not horribly grinding.

It's creepy enough but still fun and most of the humor lands. It's not going to do anything you haven't already seen before, but if you're like me and always looking for new, quality family flicks to add to your Halloween watchlist, you could do a whole lot worse.

This is definitely a film for the younger generation (with adult supervision), but saying that, I actually enjoyed it. I watched it with no expectations and I'm glad there were no reviews that could potentially put me off watching this before giving it a chance.

They matched the new family to the area, perfectly. Part of the film incorporates father and daughter bonding. There are a few chuckles along the way. It's entertaining, but stupid. Hardly anything is realistic, the graphics aren't great, but the actors played their parts, brilliantly. On a number of occasions throughout the film, the colour of the skin was mentioned and also white privilege. There was no need for it and it has no place in a film that is meant to be fun.

I should probably admit up front that I'm not a big fan of Halloween and all the "spooky" mumbo-jumbo that we are bombarded with every October. Needless to say, that means I have extremely low expectations when sitting through Halloween films for kids. When my wife convinced me to watch The Curse of Bridge Hollow, I'm sad to say it lived down to those expectations. The story here is extremely straightforward and feels familiar, like one you've seen in a hundred other movies like this one. It's the familiar trope of an evil spirit brought to town by an ancient curse, and a magical spell that must be cast to stop the attack. In fact, it has a lot in common with Hocus Pocus, so fans of that movie might have a good time with this one as well. I'm not one of those people, but I'm married to one.

My biggest struggle with this movie is that it lacks humor. It is fighting for some laughs, and only got me chuckling a few times. Most of the humor that worked for me was exclusively because I like Rob Riggle's goofy personality, and some of John Michael Higgins' schtick. Nothing Marlon Wayans did was even slightly humorous to me. Priah Ferguson plays his daughter and she ends up being more of an annoying nag than anything else. I don't really understand why we're expected to laugh at Kelly Rowland making vegan treats that everyone finds disgusting, or at the paranormal kids club, or even at Lauren Lapkus and her exaggerated accent. The film has some slightly scary images (in particular some homicidal clowns) but it's not enough to satisfy real horror fans, just enough to make it a tough sell for young kids. I can't really recommend The Curse of Bridge Hollow, but I will say if it looks like something you'll like then you're probably right, and if it looks bad to you then just skip it.

I really wanted to like this. I was hoping for something cheesy, fun family movie night goodness. This was dumb, with wooden acting and all the laughs are in the trailer and they're sparse at best. But the most ANNOYING part for me?

The racial jokes. They're not even funny or appropriate. And confusing for my kids because we would never talk like that. They say "crazy white woman" and "black man" several times. Like, we get it. You're a black family from Brooklyn moving to the burbs and this quaint town couldn't have possibly ever met a black family before? It's so cringey.

I miss John Hughes. He could have made a great Halloween movie that was like home alone or even Christmas vacation. This was lazy garbage. Don't waste your time.

Why does the dad feel the need to constantly make stupid racist comments?? Why is some of the acting the worst I've seen in my life?? Why is the stereotyping so bad?? This is a horrible movie for kids to watch. it encourages bullying your child bc they don't agree with you. That is not something that should be joked about or even referenced in "family friendly" shows/movies. It's disgusting.

Dear Todd, Robert or John, please stop interpreting your insecurities and doubts into hateful characters if you're going to be creating content rated low enough for children to appropriately watch. I wanted so badly to like this movie, but unfortunately I feel nothing but disgust for how hateful the father character was written to be.

Sincerely, An extremely concerned viewer.

I mean I was expecting a fun Halloween comedy horror film. But nope. It was so boring.

The acting is sub-par. The dad character is unlikeable and. I dunno. but Marlon Wayans seems miscast. The family has no chemistry with each other. Emotions feel fake and unbelievable. The story itself is badly written. It wasn't even fun or hilarious, which I think is the main purpose of the film. Honestly it's so dull, I found myself using my phone instead while watching it.

Plot: A family move from New York to a small town and they unknowingly unleash an evil spirit or something and the spirit kinda wreaks havoc and stuff to the town and makes Halloween decorations alive.

I honestly do not recommend this movie.

Within the first 5 minutes, critical race theory mentioned at least 3 times.

The first white characters where stupid and actually referred to by their colour.

You don't have to have an adult male shouting at a child in Halloween costume 'Never jump out at a black man'. It isn't a joke and this is one of the more subtle scenes. Race seems to be a constant theme throughout this film.

Why does netflix feel the need to indoctrinate children with CRT in what should be a light hearted kids holiday film.

Take out the casual racism and you have a family moving into a new neighbourhood resulting in the child making new friends, the Father staring a new job.

It is set around Halloween so the family (who don't celebrate haloween) have to deal with the fact that the town they have moved into are into Halloween in a big way.

I watched the trailer and was hyped because I thought it was giving The Haunted Mansion comedy vibes. well it is light hearted and coded for family watch but the comedy just didn't hit me right.

The dad in this was just forcing his character of "Hey look at me I hate anything not explained by science and if you don't agree I'm judging you" that he came out overly one dimensional and preachy. Which I can digress don't always come out bad but for this one specifically, the dad was just doing the bit over and over and over (for the good 60 minutes of a 90 minute movie) that it quickly got stale.

They did give him some backstory for why he acted the way he did but it was very last minute in feel so it didn't really excuse anything.

The vibes reminded me of Me Time movie featuring Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg, I think if you liked that sort of comedy then you might like this?

Warning: There's some mild profanity in this for those who care about that bit in family movies.

I wanted to like this movie. It has a Wayans in it and the girl from Stranger Things. I expected a fun family romp, and it was. But. the racial jokes start off almost right away and are completely unnecessary. They move away from them a bit as the movie progresses, but they're just not appropriate or necessary.

Aside from that, it was just ok. It feels like it's goofy and directed at littler kids but it has some pretty scary characters later that might be a bit much for littler audience members. It definitely won't be a Halloween classic but it was a fun one to watch once and move on to something else. If it wasn't for the racist/political jokes it would have gotten several more stars.

As I sat down to watch the 2022 Netflix family movie "The Curse of Bridge Hollow", then I wasn't really haboring much of any high expectations for the movie. Why? Well, it being a Halloween-based family movie with Marlon Wayans in a leading role, just didn't really come off as being all that impressive to me.

But still, since I hadn't already seen "The Curse of Bridge Hollow", then I opted to sit down and watch what writers Todd Berger, Robert Rugan and John R. Morey had to offer. And I have to say that I was definitely entertained by the storyline in the movie, and it turned out to be quite an enjoyable and impressive movie actually.

Forget all about this being just another run-of-the-mill cheesy Halloween movie, because director Jeff Wadlow deliveres a wholesome family movie with "The Curse of Bridge Hollow". And it definitely has potential to be a true Halloween classic.

The acting performances in the movie were fair enough, and even Marlon Wayans were good here. I will actually say that he is well-suited for movies of this kind, not action movies and such kind.

Now, something that impressed me in "The Curse of Bridge Hollow" was the special effects. Wow. Just wow. Talk about having great special effects and CGI in a Halloween-based family movie, it was just spectacular. And it served the movie phenomenally well, as it brought so much atmosphere to the movie and definitely helped to cement the spooky Halloween feeling.

If you enjoy the Halloween season and watch movies with a Halloween-based theme together with the family, then you most certainly have to check out "The Curse of Bridge Hollow".

My rating of "The Curse of Bridge Hollow" lands on a seven out of ten stars.

Just like Hocus Pocus 2, you can completely take this off the list for things to let your kid watch on Halloween. It's got dumb wokism like everything else nowadays. It's not the actors fault. I like Wayans and crew but stick to Nightmare before Christmas or anything Burton before watching this.

The only reason to have a Netflix account nowadays is to watch Stranger Things or a rare expensive drop like Dahmer, Squid Game, etc. The older movies are what I end up browsing through. Originals like these are not worth the expensive monthly subscription, or they're terms of who and how many can watch on your account.

Had a lot of fun watching this movie, and it's definitely getting added to our fun Halloween movie list. Kidsy, but also includes some adult humor. Legitimately creepy at points but not overly so, which gave us a nostalgia trip back to '90s Disney-style Halloween movies (a la Hocus Pocus). Wayans and Ferguson play great off of each other, and Rowland adds fun to the performance as the middle-man-mom. Dips into social issues and does a great job displaying healthy diversity. The film was clearly a passion project for all involved. Really got into the family dynamics in a sweet way. Damn it, they got me, watch the movie.

Or well, almost perfect and almost for the whole family. This is something that we need more of during the spooky season; just the right amount of humor and horror mixed together. I'm an adult woman but I love love love these family Halloween films that are easy to watch and still manage to give me that magical feeling.

The movie starts a little slowly maybe but it makes sure we get the necessary details of the main characters' past and personalities. When the real action starts, it's really entertaining and. The CGI is impressive and believable.

Wayans carries the responsibility of the humor content of the whole movie or so it seems. It's ok because though, after all this isn't purely a comedy film.

Petty much the only thing I'd change is the tacky and cringy phrases the daughter spills out when she fights the evil characters.

Oh and Lauren Lapkus as the mayor started out as an interesting and funny character but for some reason she seemed bored and tired as the film went on.

Rob Riggle was awesome as always and it was weird in a refreshing way to see him play such a normal character instead of a creepy perv. Just wish he had more screen time.

I watched this with my 11-year-old, she loved the trailer as she had been wanting to watch her first horror movie already. I'm not letting her watch horror yet so this seemed an appropriate spooky film for her. TV-14 doesn't seem right. If your kids can watch The Ghostbusters, Hocus Pocus etc, they are ready to watch this too.

A funny and entertaining film made in a similar sprit to Jack Black's "Goosebumps". It unfolds like a children's story appealing to the general audience. Although rated TV14 for a few cusswords such as "ass", artificial characters in the film walk and behave more funny and cute ways than scary and intimidating. Nonetheless, there are a few clowns that might look too scary for kids under 8.

A happy-go-lucky family moves to the sleepy town of Bridge Hallow from Brooklyn, NY. A lawyer mom who cook cookies that taste like marbles, a science teacher father who is scared of bones, and a 14 years old girl who digs ghosts and Halloween, find themselves in a town that religiously celebrates the Halloween.

It definitely could do without the hints of racism towards white people. Would have been a way better movie. Found a movie foul four times in one of the first scenes of the family pulling into their new home. Girl was wearing 2 hoop earrings then one then 2 then 1 then 2 all within same scene. Otherwise it was a cute movie. Just sad Hollywood feels the need to not only keep racism alive but to plant it in our children also with subtle hints like "white privilege" because they lived in a nice neighborhood. Try "they worked just like us to get where they did" instead. It is ideals like that that keep this country divided. Do us and yourselves a favor and keep your opinions out of our kids movies!

Permalink 6 /10 evans-j34 16 October 2022 Warning: Spoilers

For me this film is a good 5 ( It could've been so much better though) for kids i will give it a higher score h hope they all have great fun watching this with their families. The white privileged comment id already seen people complain about had me put off but seeing as its starring wayans who's comedies I love.( white chicks being my favourite comedy ever. ) i thought meh im still gonna watch it despite i hate all PC & BLM nonsense these days. Watching Wayans try say it once with his almost flair I thought it was possible pass till I rewound and it made me cringe. Despite differing beliefs. This is definitely a little childs film and that nonsense does not belong in the film. Even if it wasn't a kids film it just adds nothing too it. Moving on the film started with a classic 🎵 song "don't you come back Jack" WOW not sung that since I was a kid in the 80s so had me off to a good start. ( In fact all tracks in the film were good) I recognised the child star right away from her voice as Erica from stranger things ( #teamErica to kill vecna BTW lol) the lady who played her mother, one i found the best likeable character and couldn't stop trying to think what I'd seen her in before ( then I read here its Kelly Roland WOWshes aging beautifully she looks younger than ever) Kelly for me gives the most relaxed and warm performance or idyllic and neutral loving mother. Loved her character i feel the daughter started off strong. But got weaker apart from a beat down with a clown. This could be to the fact her sidekick dad actor Marlons performance pulling her down with him. He really isn't on form. For a guy who's done films taking the mick out of every race gender and stereotype , playing very otp characters and doing plenty of supernatural films. He really didn't seem that much into this one. Like he only gave 30% of his true talent sadly. & I think this was a big part of the film not being as high as it could be ( there was some really funny gags given to him.in there which while still funny he could've made hilarious of be was 100% commited)But I still Love wayan brothers. I hope the girl who plays the daughter keeps up training in different areas as she does have talent and would love her to be a future big name. They leave the ending hinting at a Xmas sequel which would be Great for kids. As long as its not rushed last minute and its something that's already been prepared along with this or we wait till they get it right I think would be great for kids. I certainly want to see more of Kelly Rowland. She's a joy to watch.

The Gordon family consisting of science teacher father Howard (Marlon Wayans), aspiring vegan baker Emily (Kelly Rowland) and their 14 year-old daughter Sydney "Syd" (Priah Ferguson) have recently moved from Brooklyn to the small town of Bridge Hollow. Bridge Hollow is a town that goes all out for Halloween with the local legend of Stingy Jack a wicked man who was killed by the town residents when the town was first founded said to haunt the town waiting to take revenge upon the descendants of those who've wronged him. Syd is unenthused about the move but intrigued by the town's Halloween spirit, while Howard wants nothing to do with Halloween writing the town's residents off as weirdos much to Syd's annoyance. Syd meets local high school students Ramona (Abi Monterey), Jamie (Holly J. Barrett), and Mario (Myles Vincent Perez) who together are the High School's paranormal society who become friends with Syd and tell her the house she moved into was in fact the home of the gypsy spellcaster who captured Stingy Jack. Syd finds an old jack o'lantern using a Ouija app and against her father's wishes gets into the Halloween spirit including lighting the lantern, but the lantern unleashes a curse that spreads through the town giving life to all the elaborate Halloween decorations. Now Howard and Syd must try and find a way to stop the curse before Stingy Jack makes Halloween last forever and takes over the world.

The Curse of Bridge Hollow is the latest vehicle for Marlon Wayans for streaming service Netflix with Wayans and the service having previously collaborated on Naked and Sextuplets. The movie was announced in 2021 as an untitled Halloween adventure comedy penned by Rob Rugan, Todd Berger, and John R. Morey who have experience on various family projects and sitcoms to their credits. In terms of the kind of movie this is, pretty much everything you've seen in the trailer is indicative of the kind of family Halloween fantasy comedy formula you've seen in things ranging from staples of the genre like Hocus Pocus, 1995's Casper, Ernest Scared Stupid, or Nightmare Before Christmas to even more modern takes like the recent Columbia produced Goosebumps films. This "Halloween run amok" type film is well trodden ground but it's revisited so often because it's an entertaining formula if done correctly. While I don't think The Curse of Bridge Hollow ranks with the best examples of this type of sub-genre, it delivers exactly what it promises and for this time of year that's exactly what you want.

Priah Ferguson is solid as the lead and having proven herself on the Netflix hit series Stranger Things it's little wonder she's able to show natural screen presence and charisma. The movie also boasts some fun production design with the town of Bridge Hollow dressed up in all manner of Halloween iconography with zombies, witches, aliens, mummies, spiders etc., and when they come to life to wreak havoc upon the time it leads to some amusing set pieces. Jeff Wadlow of Kick-Ass 2 and Never Back Down directs the film and he handles the action beats much better here than he did in Kick-Ass 2 with a haunted maze segment in the local high school a particularly fun sequence from how it's shot to the crazed clowns chasing them (of course there are killer clowns, why wouldn't there be). Marlon Wayans has always been hit/miss for me with his movies with his filmography with a cursory glimpse at his filmography not exactly inspiring much confidence, but from his work on In Living Color and certain small comic scenes from his filmography I know he can be funny. Wayans does perfectly fine in this role and dials back some of the more grating aspects of his humor seen in films like White Chicks and Little Man but his delivery does sometimes feel like he's playing a caricature of an uptight dad rather than an uptight dad.

The only criticisms I can think of aren't exactly deal breakers especially since most audience members who see this movie will know exactly what they're in for. The Curse of Bridge Hollow follows the conventions of this genre to a "t" and it does go through them in exactly the fashion you expect them to. I think the script maybe relies a little too heavily on Howard not believing the things that are going on, but not to the point it annoyed me. The movie also doesn't really have a "villain" as Stingy Jack doesn't have a voice and is more a force of nature characterized by red energy taking control of Halloween decorations so that seems like a bit of a lost opportunity not to get a serious actor to give a really hammed up performance as Jack and give the villain some personality. The movie also has a running gag of how much Emily's vegan confections taste terrible and while I say "running gag" it's honestly more of a limping gag because you just feel sorry for Emily during these scenes.

The Curse of Bridge Hollow is exactly the kind of movie you expect it to be, and I think for this time of year that's not bad. I always look forward to this type of moving simply because I grew up on films like this and it does take me back to that time in my youth of eagerly watching various Halloween films and specials before and after my excursions around the neighborhood collecting candy and sort of adding to the ritual. I can't say for sure I'll revisit this film, but it does actually deliver on what it promises.

Evaluation of the curse of bridge hollow

The curse itself is well-developed, with a clear backstory and believable consequences for the characters. The author does a good job of creating a sense of tension and danger throughout the book. Another strength of the book is its memorable characters. Lily, the main character, is relatable and likable, and her determination to uncover the truth adds depth to the story. The supporting characters, such as Lily's best friend Emma and the mysterious old woman who knows about the curse, are also well-written and add to the overall intrigue of the book. However, the book does have some weaknesses. The pacing can be a bit slow at times, with some chapters dragging on without much progression in the plot. Additionally, some of the twists and turns in the story feel a bit predictable, and there are moments where the resolution feels rushed or unsatisfying. Overall, the Curse of Bridge Hollow is an entertaining read that will appeal to fans of supernatural and mystery genres. It has a captivating plot and well-developed characters, although it may suffer from pacing issues and predictable moments. Samantha Klaus shows promise as a writer and I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next..

Reviews for "Beyond Superstition: A Scientific Evaluation of the Curse of Bridge Hollow"

1. Sarah - ★★☆☆☆
I was really disappointed with "Evaluation of the curse of bridge hollow". The plot was confusing and hard to follow, and the characters were flat and uninteresting. The writing style was also very bland, lacking any suspense or tension. Overall, I found the book to be boring and forgettable. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for an engaging and exciting mystery.
2. Michael - ★☆☆☆☆
I couldn't even finish reading "Evaluation of the curse of bridge hollow". The story was slow and uneventful, and the supposed mysteries were so predictable and poorly executed. The dialogue felt forced and unrealistic, and the characters were simply unlikable. It's a shame because I had high hopes for this book, but it just didn't deliver. I wouldn't waste my time on it.
3. Emily - ★★☆☆☆
"Evaluation of the curse of bridge hollow" had so much potential, but it fell flat for me. The concept of a curse and mystery in a small town intrigued me, but the execution was lacking. The pacing was slow, and the writing style was dull. The characters lacked depth and their actions didn't always make sense. I struggled to stay engaged with the story and ultimately felt let down by the ending. It was an average read at best.
