(Coleus) One of the hottest selling foliage plants we carry is the COLORBLAZE® Coleus family. COLORBLAZE® Newly Noir™ features deep purple, near-black foliage with a heavy texture and serrated edges. Growing 2- 3 ½ feet tall and spreading up to 3 feet wide, COLORBLAZE® Newly Noir™ can be planted in full sun to shade locations. Growing tip… the more sun it gets the more stunning the coloration! If you are in an area with low humidity, we recommend part to full shade. This easy-to-grow annual is primarily used for foliage interest. The COLOR BLAZE® family of Coleus has been bred to bloom late in the season and requires no pinching to achieve full plants. To keep the foliage as the main attraction, you may pinch off any flowers that may emerge. The upright habit of COLORBLAZE® Newly Noir™ Coleus makes this a perfect addition to the landscape as well as a filler/ thriller in containers. Be sure to use a large container, as these do get big. ColorBlaze® Wicked Witch™ Coleus' attractive serrated pointy leaves remain burgundy in color with distinctive chartreuse edges and tinges of purple throughout the year on a plant with an upright spreading habit of growth.

ColorBlaze® Wicked Witch™ Coleus is an herbaceous annual with an upright spreading habit of growth. Its relatively coarse texture can be used to stand it apart from other garden plants with finer foliage.

This is a relatively low maintenance plant. The flowers of this plant may actually detract from its ornamental features, so they can be removed as they appear. Deer don't particularly care for this plant and will usually leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. It has no significant negative characteristics.

ColorBlaze® Wicked Witch™ Coleus will grow to be about 30 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 24 inches. When grown in masses or used as a bedding plant, individual plants should be spaced approximately 20 inches apart. Although it's not a true annual, this fast-growing plant can be expected to behave as an annual in our climate if left outdoors over the winter, usually needing replacement the following year. As such, gardeners should take into consideration that it will perform differently than it would in its native habitat.

This plant does best in partial shade to shade. It requires an evenly moist well-drained soil for optimal growth, but will die in standing water. It is not particular as to soil pH, but grows best in rich soils. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone over the growing season to conserve soil moisture. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America. It can be propagated by cuttings; however, as a cultivated variety, be aware that it may be subject to certain restrictions or prohibitions on propagation.

ColorBlaze® Wicked Witch™ Coleus is a fine choice for the garden, but it is also a good selection for planting in outdoor containers and hanging baskets. With its upright habit of growth, it is best suited for use as a 'thriller' in the 'spiller-thriller-filler' container combination; plant it near the center of the pot, surrounded by smaller plants and those that spill over the edges. It is even sizeable enough that it can be grown alone in a suitable container. Note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden.

1. Jane - 2/5 - I was really disappointed with the Coleus Colorblaze Wicked Witch. The color of the leaves wasn't as vibrant as I expected and the plant didn't grow as much as I had hoped. It also seemed to attract a lot of pests like aphids and whiteflies, which required constant maintenance to control. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this particular Coleus variety.

2. Mark - 1/5 - I had high hopes for the Coleus Colorblaze Wicked Witch, but unfortunately, it was a complete letdown. The plant grew slowly and didn't reach its advertised height. The colors weren't as striking as I had anticipated, and the plant looked dull and lackluster. I tried various fertilizers and care techniques, but nothing seemed to improve its appearance. Save your money and invest in a different coleus variety.

3. Sarah - 2/5 - The Coleus Colorblaze Wicked Witch didn't live up to my expectations. The colors were mediocre, and the leaves lacked the mesmerizing patterns I had seen in pictures. Additionally, the plant struggled to survive in my garden, even with proper care and maintenance. It wilted easily during hot weather and required frequent watering. I ended up replacing it with a different coleus variety that was much more visually appealing and easier to grow.
