Poe, The Ravens Mascot, Is Out for the Year. Are The Ravens in Trouble?

I can be a very superstitious person. As a coach, I usually wear the same game outfit (after I wash it weekly of course) on game days if we win. Mascots have been a huge part of sports for as long as anyone can remember. In fact, the word mascot comes from the French term “mascotte,” which literally mean lucky charm. That can be concerning for the Ravens as Poe, the Baltimore Ravens mascot, is now out for the season with a torn ACL. The injury occurred after playing in an AAU youth football exhibition in Baltimore during a halftime show. Here’s the video of him being carted off the field:

The crazy thing is, does this actually have any effect on the Ravens and their performance on the field? Depends on how superstitious you are. Remember mascot literally means lucky charm. What if the Ravens lost their lucky charm? What if their success in the past can be contributed to Poe, the Ravens mascot. I sound like I am looney tunes but I know there are superstitious people in this world that wish I wouldn’t bring this bad juju on them.

Now, the Ravens are being forced to have mascot tryouts for the new temporary identity of Poe. (Holy f*** is his name Poe because it’s a raven and Edgar Allen Poe wrote a famous poem about a raven?! Oh my God my mind is blown I have never connected that until this very moment. Okay, internal monologue over). Do you think any of these schmucks can even compare to the greatness of the original Poe? I think not. If you’re superstitious, I would be very wary about this season for the Ravens. A guy that is supposed to be your lucky charm being out is not good for team morale or performance. Hopefully it doesn’t affect the Ravens too much.

I’m only slightly joking, this could mean nothing, but it could mean everything. Good Luck Baltimore and we’re wishing Poe a speedy recovery to be the team’s good luck charm.
