Breaking the Rules: Unconventional Ways to Use Black Magic Eyeliner

By admin

Black magic eyeliner is a popular cosmetic product used to enhance the appearance of the eyes. It is known for its rich, dark color that provides a dramatic and seductive look. The term "black magic" refers to the intensity and impact the eyeliner has on the overall makeup look. Black magic eyeliner is commonly available in liquid or gel form. The liquid eyeliner is a classic choice for achieving precise lines, while gel eyeliner offers a softer and smudged effect. Both options allow for various creative eye makeup looks, from a simple thin line to a bold and winged cat-eye.

Mistake #2: Using the wrong eyeliner formula

Mistake 1 Pulling or tugging your eye when you draw on eyeliner Pulling your eye back so your skin is taut and smooth seems more like common sense than a mistake, but apparently, we ve all been wrong about this one. This can create bumpiness, texture, and that dreaded check-mark shape hanging off the eye, says Lijha Stewart, makeup artist and director of artistry at Make Up for Ever.

Both options allow for various creative eye makeup looks, from a simple thin line to a bold and winged cat-eye. The main advantage of black magic eyeliner is its ability to effortlessly define the eyes and make them appear more prominent. The dark color intensifies the eyes and adds depth to any makeup look.

In the past four months, I’ve been testing out some Eyeko eyeliners – Eyeko Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner, Skinny Liquid Eyeliner (swatched 3 times), Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner, Sport Waterproof Eyeliner. All of them disappointed me.

To be fair, I have the most finicky eyelids. They’re hooded AND oily, which make for some lovely racoon eyes at the end of the day whenever I wear eyeliner. I also have very watery eyes, so nothing ever lasts more than an hour on my waterline. Here’s my issue: if a product promises to be smudge-proof or waterproof , it better deliver. But only very occasionally do they truly deliver.

Eyeko Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner + Widelash ($22 USD)

Eyeko Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner

This product contains a tripeptide boost to promote lash growth for up to three times more length and volume in 15 days. I couldn’t get past a couple days of testing this one out because I found that the pigment would transfer to my lower lash line. On the plus side, the pigment is ultra-black and the tip features a “Japanese precision brush”, which might be the finest eyeliner brush I’ve ever used. It’s amazing. I haven’t thrown this one out because I’ve repurposed it for drawing temporary tattoos and cuticle accents (see my Instagram post).

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner ($22 USD)

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner

What I don’t understand is how the Eyeko Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner (above) has a skinnier brush than a product called the “Skinny” Liquid Eyeliner. In general, I prefer brush tip eyeliners over felt tip eyeliners. The Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner promises a smooth, glossy finish and carbon-black colour. It is slightly glossy and the black is very black, so it ticks those boxes. Where it doesn’t deliver is the waterproof and smudge-proof claims. I can get 4-5 hours of wear before I can see visible transfer onto my lower lash line. It’s not bad but my days are typically 12-16 hours so I require something a little more budge-proof.

Eyeko Sport Waterproof Eyeliner ($22 USD)

Last and perhaps least is the Eyeko Sport Waterproof Eyeliner. The packaging is well thought out, with a built in sharpener and brush to smudge the product into the lash line. It’s ultra black, which it also has going for it. I think what was most disappointing was that I LOVE the Eyeko Sport Waterproof Mascara. That stuff is golden. But the Eyeko Sport Waterproof Eyeliner did the same as the other two. It transferred onto my lower lash line, which is now and forever my biggest eyeliner gripe.

Overall

I’m sticking to my tried and true favourites. For pencil liner, I love the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayons. Furthermore, for liquid eyeliner, the Kat Von D Lock-it Tattoo Liner and Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner are long-lasting, all-day products (we’re talking a 16-20 hour day here). Perhaps if you don’t have hooded or oily lids, these Eyeko eyeliners might work in your favour.

Have you tried any Eyeko eyeliners? Did they work out for you?

"Using a dark liner on the bottom without a liner on the top makes the eye feel unbalanced and bottom-heavy, dragging the eyes down," explains Stiles. Plus, if you sweat or rub your eyes throughout the day, you could end up looking like one of Marc Jacobs' goth girls. "Keep the liner to the top lid for a more lifted, youthful effect." If you really, really want to go after your bottom lash line, Stiles recommends using a lighter color there than you're using on the top. "This will still give you definition, but feels softer and more flattering," she adds.

Reviews for "The History of Black Magic Eyeliner: From Ancient Times to Modern Trends"

1. Sarah - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the Black Magic eyeliner. The formula was clumpy and smudged easily, which made it difficult to apply. It also didn't have the intense black color that I was expecting. Overall, it didn't live up to the hype and I won't be repurchasing it.
2. Emily - 1 star - The Black Magic eyeliner was a complete letdown for me. The brush tip was flimsy and made it hard to achieve precise lines. The formula also took forever to dry, which resulted in smudging and transferring onto my eyelids. I had high hopes for this product, but it simply didn't deliver.
3. Jessica - 2 stars - I have to say, I wasn't impressed at all with the Black Magic eyeliner. The application was patchy and I had to go over the line multiple times to get a decent result. It also started to fade and crack throughout the day. I've used other eyeliners that are much better in terms of pigmentation and longevity.
4. Ashley - 2 stars - Unfortunately, the Black Magic eyeliner didn't work out for me. The brush tip felt stiff and uneven, making it difficult to create a smooth line. The formula also dried out quickly, which made it even harder to work with. I had higher expectations for this product and I'm disappointed with the overall quality.
