The tradition began in the mid-1960s when a live Razorback was first introduced to the fans at football games. Tuesday afternoon Arkansas athletics made the sad announcement that the school’s live mascot, Tusk V, passed away on Sunday. “Tusk V, the live mascot of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, passed away on Sunday afternoon, January 15, 2023, at his home outside of Dardanelle, Ark.,” the announcement said. “Tusk V died of natural causes and was laid to rest on the Stokes Family farm.” Born in 2018, Tusk V assumed the live mascot duties from his father, Tusk IV, who retired in 2019. He led the ‘Hog Walk’ and was on the sidelines at all home football games along with making other various appearances at Razorback sporting events and functions throughout Arkansas. Arkansas’ Tusk mascot is one of just seven live mascots in the SEC. Like his predecessors, Tusk V was a Russian boar that was bred and cared for by Keith and Julie Stokes on their farm in Dardanelle. The Stokes family began the Tusk live mascot tradition in 1997 with Tusk I. Tusk V’s brother, Tusk VI, will now assume the live mascot responsibilities.

Reviews for "Tusk: The Arkansas Razorbacks' Mascot's Impact on Recruiting"

1. Jennifer - 2/5 - As a fan of college football, I have always enjoyed seeing the mascots on the sidelines, but the University of Arkansas' Razorbacks mascot left much to be desired. The costume itself seemed outdated and poorly designed, lacking the energy and excitement that other mascots bring to the game. Additionally, the movements and interactions of the mascot were clumsy and awkward, failing to engage and entertain the audience. Overall, I found the Razorbacks mascot to be a disappointment and a missed opportunity to enhance the game day experience.
2. Mark - 1/5 - The University of Arkansas' Razorbacks mascot was nothing short of a disaster. The costume looked cheap and poorly made, making it difficult to even recognize the mascot as a razorback. The mascot's performance was lackluster and unenthusiastic, failing to create any sense of excitement or engagement among the fans. Furthermore, the mascot seemed disconnected from the game itself, often appearing lost and out of place. It's clear that the university needs to invest in a new and improved mascot that can bring the spirit and energy that their team deserves.
3. Sarah - 2/5 - The Razorbacks mascot was a huge letdown. The costume looked shabby, with worn-out fabric and poorly constructed features. It was hard to get excited about a mascot that didn't seem to embody the spirit and energy of the team. The mascot's movements were stiff and robotic, making it difficult to believe in its role as a cheerleader for the team. Overall, the Razorbacks mascot failed to live up to the standards of other college mascots and was a disappointing addition to the game day experience.
4. Mike - 1/5 - The Razorbacks mascot was a complete joke. The costume looked like it was from the 1970s, with outdated design and faded colors. It was embarrassing to see such a lackluster representation of the team on the sidelines. The mascot's performance was equally disappointing, lacking the energy and charisma that other mascots bring to the game. The University of Arkansas needs to seriously consider revamping their mascot to create a more captivating and dynamic presence on game day.
