Santa Claus: A Modern-Day Pagan God

By admin

Santa Claus is pagan too Santa Claus, known by many names such as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, and Kris Kringle, is a beloved figure associated with Christmas. However, it may come as a surprise to some that the origins of Santa Claus can be traced back to pagan traditions. The modern-day image of Santa Claus we recognize today is heavily influenced by the story of Saint Nicholas, a Christian bishop who lived in the 4th century in what is now modern-day Turkey. Saint Nicholas was known for his generosity and love for children, and his feast day on December 6th became a popular holiday celebration in many European countries. But even before Saint Nicholas, pagans had their own figures associated with winter celebrations. In ancient Germanic and Nordic folklore, a figure called Odin (or Woden) was said to ride through the sky during the winter solstice, bringing gifts to people.

Santa Claus is Pagan Too (Emerald Rose Cover) By Ralph Puma

When I first heard Emerald Rose’s Santa is Pagan Too, I was unbearably excited to cover it. As a thank you for all of those who have been along with me on this journey (and to attract some new friends) I am offering it up for free on everything. I’m going to be rolling out a lot of new music next year, have a goal to film my first music video, I may even dare to be “that guy” and claim 2022 as my year. It is my Jesus year, in honor of the sun king’s season. 33.

I haven’t released any new music since Stop The CIty’s EP in 2013. Thats two unreleased albums that have never really made it out. I’ve been recording with John Black And Carl Bauer A lot and I sent over a bedroom recording I did of this song to John on Garage Band, He transformed it into something better than I could have even anticipated and I was already excited having heard his mixes on my new music.

Christina happened upon this EMERALD ROSE song during a week we were discussing “branding” and “marketing” ideas. Christmas as a concept is one of the most successful brands/rebrands to ever exist. Christmas has many faces, many ideas tie themselves to it, but we are going back to the old ways with this song.

I very much relate to Hawkeye (My new personal favorite Christmas watch through, only second to the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia christmas special) and his perspective about his branding issues. I’ve always complained about having to do covers. I don’t like the whole having to be a “brand” thing currently being tied to being successful. I am not some definable being willing to shove itself into any box. Yeah, I study the occult, yes, before it was cool. Yeah I play pop punk and emo, which a few months back I was angry at the car radio internally screaming “NOW is when it’s popular again?”— and Yeah I want to make entertaining movies that are accessible to mainstream viewers that subvert social norms, what filmmaker doesn’t?

But me as a personality? As a Brand? I’d rather remain hidden.

I don’t know why. I have nothing to hide. I don’t want to be show-y about the things I make, but want to live off of making them. Figure that one out. Go read/listen/watch any marketing thing and they pretty much laugh at that perspective. I’m going to figure out this problem, I’m aware of it, so now I’m obsessing— I’ve listened to a couple dozen “How to succeed at social media AND be authentic podcasts.” They all try to sell me more classes. Which ties back to my upcoming documentary idea I’m throwing around about cults. Everything is a cult. We’ll pick that back up again soon.

I have worked very hard to get secure and find myself in an empathetic, sometimes cynical, mostly hopeful place. I am absent-minded at times and far from perfect. I can be quite dumb and not pick up on things right away. I battle with depression, but it’s beginning to get annoying and a bit of running or working out tends to clear that problem up pretty quickly, I’ve learned. I have no idea what’s next and I couldn’t be in a better position. I have the courage to overcome all of the things I fear and embody the avatar of who I actually want to be. Otherwise what was reading all of that Green Lantern for? Do not bring up the movie.

TL:DR- HAPPY HOLIDAYS, HAPPY YULE, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! There’s been a lot of muck, but if you’re reading this YOU are still alive and besides the abnormal human social constructs the Earth is pretty beautiful. Go live in it some more and find new ways to take care of it. I’ve certainly been trying.

Emerald Rose - Santa Claus Is Pagan Too

{Chorus}
Oh, Santa Claus is Pagan too
Just like all the rest
And if you are a merry witch
He'll bring you all the best
So get that star up on the roof
And bake those cookies too
Cause Christmas time is really Yule
And Santa's Pagan too

He's got that Buddha belly
And his pop's the Holly King
You've dressed him in that British Coat
The cap's a Nordic thing
You took the horns right off his head
And stuck them on his deer
But he still flies high like Jupiter
With a belly full of beer

{Chorus}
Hey, Santa Claus is Pagan too
Just like all the rest
And if you are a merry witch
He'll bring you all the best
So get that star up on the roof
And bake those cookies too
Cause Christmas time is really Yule
And Santa's Pagan too

Now history says Christ was likely
Not a Capricorn
But if you want to share our Yule
We don't care when he's born
Come celebrate the dawning
Of the sun king's bright rebirth
And if you practice what you preach
We'll all have peace on earth

{Chorus}
Hey, Santa Claus is Pagan too
Just like all the rest
And if you are a merry witch
He'll bring you all the best
So get that star up on the roof
And bake those cookies too
Cause Christmas time is really Yule
And Santa's Pagan too

Now, Santa's way more jolly
Than most Christians would require
And if he weren't so busy
He'd be dancing 'round this fire
Yeah, you can call it Christmas
You've got us way outgunned
But just you wait 'til Beltaine
Then we'll see who's havin' fun!

{Chorus x2}
Hey, Santa Claus is Pagan too
Just like all the rest
And if you are a merry witch
He'll bring you all the best
So get that star up on the roof
And bake those cookies too
Cause Christmas time is really Yule
And Santa's Pagan too

In ancient Germanic and Nordic folklore, a figure called Odin (or Woden) was said to ride through the sky during the winter solstice, bringing gifts to people. Odin, often depicted as an old man with a long white beard, had a strong connection to the pagan celebration of Yule. Yule, or the Winter Solstice, marked the shortest day of the year and was celebrated by pagans in Northern Europe.

Santa claus is pagan too

It was a time of feasting, drinking, and gift-giving. The customs and symbols associated with Yule, such as evergreen trees and decorated wreaths, eventually became incorporated into the Christian celebration of Christmas. As Christianity spread throughout Europe, the stories and traditions of Saint Nicholas merged with the pagan customs surrounding Yule. Over time, the figure of Saint Nicholas evolved into the jolly, gift-giving character we know today as Santa Claus. Many of the iconic elements associated with Santa Claus can be traced back to pagan origins. For example, Santa's sleigh and reindeer are reminiscent of Odin's flying horse, Sleipnir. The giving of gifts during Christmas mirrors the pagan practice of exchanging presents during Yule. Even Santa's iconic red suit can be seen as a nod to the traditional colors associated with Yule. It is important to note that these pagan influences do not diminish the significance of Santa Claus in modern Christmas celebrations. Whether perceived as a Christian figure or a pagan one, Santa Claus spreads happiness and brings joy to people of all ages. Reviews for "The Hidden Paganism in Christmas Tradition: Santa Claus"

1. Jennifer - 1/5 stars - I was really disappointed with this book. I thought it would offer an interesting perspective on the origins of Santa Claus, but instead, it felt like a poorly researched and biased rant. The author seemed to have a clear agenda of debunking the Christmas traditions, and it felt like a long, drawn-out argument without any real substance. I found it to be repetitive and lacked a balanced analysis. Overall, I would not recommend this book to anyone expecting an insightful discussion on the topic.
2. Mark - 2/5 stars - As someone who was genuinely interested in learning about the pagan origins of Santa Claus, I hoped this book would provide some valuable insights. However, I was left disappointed. The author's writing style is monotonous and lacks the necessary excitement to engage the reader. The information provided is limited and fails to offer a comprehensive analysis of the topic. Additionally, the author's personal beliefs were too evident, making it difficult to trust the objectivity of the book. Overall, I feel this book could have been more informative and balanced.
3. Sarah - 1/5 stars - I found "Santa Claus is Pagan Too" to be excessively biased and confrontational. It seemed as though the author had a personal vendetta against Christmas and tried to paint it as a purely pagan holiday. While I understand that traditions evolve over time, this book failed to offer a well-rounded perspective. It cherry-picked facts to support its argument while conveniently disregarding any contrary evidence. I would not recommend this book to those looking for a fair and balanced analysis of the origins of Santa Claus.
