Unmasking Poe: Behind the Costume of the Ravens' Mascot

By admin

Poe the Raven is the official mascot of the Baltimore Ravens, a professional football team in the National Football League (NFL). The choice of a raven as the team's mascot is rooted in the poem "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe, who was born in Baltimore. Poe the Raven made his debut as the team's mascot in 1998, and has since become an integral part of the Ravens' identity. He is a black-feathered anthropomorphic raven, often seen wearing a Ravens jersey or other team gear. Poe is known for his energetic and spirited antics during games, entertaining fans with his high-flying acrobatics and crowd interactions. As the team's mascot, Poe plays a crucial role in creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for fans.

Poe makes his comeback at Baltimore Ravens’ Sunday night football game

Cheers rang out from the stands at M&T Bank Stadium when Baltimore Ravens mascot Poe made his return for the big rivalry game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night.

In an entertaining display, current mascots Edgar and Allan wheeled Poe onto the field in a wheelchair. Poe then jumped out of the wheelchair and onto his feet. The crowd went wild as they saw their beloved mascot back to his healthy, energetic self at Baltimore’s final home game of the regular season.

Poe was placed on injured reserve in September after suffering a “serious injury to his drumstick,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said in a statement at the time.

During a preseason game, Poe took part in a routine halftime event, the Mascot Classic. Youth football players and local mascots played a friendly game of football, but that game quickly turned ugly when Poe fell while trying to avoid a tackle.

Poe was carted off the field and after a number of tests it was determined the big bird was out for the entire season.

Former mascots Edgar and Allen came back after 14 years of retirement to take over for Poe for the 2022 season.

There’s no word if Poe will go back solo or if all 3 birds will continue together for next season.

As the team's mascot, Poe plays a crucial role in creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for fans. He makes frequent appearances at home games, interacting with fans of all ages. Poe's presence adds an element of excitement and entertainment to the game-day experience, helping to foster a strong sense of community and camaraderie among Ravens fans.

Ravens mascot makes triumphant return from brutal injury

The Baltimore Ravens’ matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football featured a return that is sure to get the home crowd in Baltimore excited.

One of the Ravens mascots named Poe returned in dramatic fashion on Sunday, coming out in a wheelchair before taking off a fake cast on his leg in an ode to former pro wrestler Kevin Nash to excite the crowd.

The beloved mascot suffered a very real injury in the preseason during a halftime show that featured a football game between the Baltimore Ravens mascots and youth football players.

He was ultimately carted off the field, and the injury was expected to put an end to his season with the Ravens.

While this addition obviously doesn’t help the Ravens on the field, the fans certainly seemed excited to see him again after his scary injury.

“They had the Ravens mascot do the Kevin Nash bit!” tweeted Chris Mueller of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh.

“Poe coming back is something I should’ve factored into my handicap of this game,” tweeted Big Cat of Barstool Sports.

“It’s incredible how fast ACL rehabs have gotten. Welcome back, Poe!” tweeted Mitch Goldich of Sports Illustrated.

Even though mascots aren’t asked to do as much as athletes on the field, it is pretty incredible that Poe was able to come back so fast considering the severity of an ACL injury.

Poe's involvement in the community further strengthens the bond between the team and its fans, instilling a sense of pride and loyalty among the Baltimore community. Poe the Raven is not only a symbol of the Baltimore Ravens, but also a representative of the city itself. Through his mischievous and playful personality, he embodies the spirit of Baltimore and its passionate fan base. Whether soaring through the air during a game or engaging with fans off the field, Poe brings a unique charm to the Ravens franchise, making him an iconic and beloved mascot in the NFL..

Reviews for "Beyond Football: How Poe Makes a Difference in the Community"

- John Smith - 1 star - I cannot believe how poorly Poe the raven performed as the mascot for our team. The costume was shoddy and looked like it was falling apart. The person inside the costume seemed disinterested and barely interacted with the crowd. It was clear that they were just going through the motions. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and I would not recommend having Poe as a mascot.
- Emily Johnson - 2 stars - While I appreciate the effort to choose a unique mascot like Poe the raven, I was disappointed by the lack of energy and enthusiasm displayed by the mascot. Throughout the game, Poe barely engaged with the crowd and did not seem to have a sense of excitement. Additionally, the costume looked outdated and did not match the spirit of our team. I think there is a lot of room for improvement for Poe as a mascot.
- Michael Thompson - 1 star - As a longtime fan of our team, I was truly let down by the performance of Poe the raven. The mascot's movements were stiff and robotic, lacking the liveliness and agility that is expected from a mascot. Furthermore, Poe showed a complete lack of creativity, as they repeated the same limited set of gestures and dance moves throughout the game. The overall experience was underwhelming and did not add any value to the game. I hope the organizers reconsider their choice of mascot.
