Revive Ancient Traditions with Pagan Inspired Makeup

By admin

Pagan makeup ideas can be a great way to express your individuality and connect with nature and spirituality. Paganism is a diverse and ancient spiritual practice that encompasses a range of beliefs and traditions. Many pagans draw inspiration from nature, mythology, and ancient symbols, which can be incorporated into their makeup looks. One common theme in pagan makeup is the use of earthy colors and natural elements. This could include shades of brown, green, and gold to represent the earth and foliage. Some pagans may also use natural materials such as leaves, flowers, or crystals in their makeup looks, either by incorporating them into their design or using them as accessories.

Beauty Tips & Tricks From Celebrity MakeUp Artist: Rachel Pagan

Friends! I’m so happy that celebrity makeup artist, Rachel Pagan gave me some of her time to chat about beauty tips and tricks. I met Rachel on the set of Home & Family TV when I was on the show for my podcast, “Hallmark Channels’ Bubbly Sesh” and she did my makeup and a hair artist from her company, The CoLab Beauty Group, did my hair. I have never in my life, aside from my wedding day, felt more beautiful than when she did my makeup!

If you are reading this and you are an actor or TV personality, you know how important it is to find someone that gets you and makes your specific beauty shine. Also, as someone with darker skin, I’ve found a few other times when I’ve had my makeup done on set that my skin tone was a bit off or I didn’t feel like myself. I always end up having to bring my own makeup and at least use a few products of mine. Not with Rachel. She used all her own products and I didn’t have to ask, “Well, can we use this of mine? …or this?” because I didn’t feel the look was quite right. Rachel helped me feel like my most beautiful, radiant self which is really important right before you go on-camera! Not only is she this calming spirit, but her artistry and talent amazed me. Just check out my makeup in some of these photos from set:

Rachel has spent 15 years in the beauty industry and is the Founder, CEO and inspiration behind the The CoLab Beauty Group. With a background in both makeup and skincare, Rachel has worked on a variety of television and film productions, fashion and editorial shoots, and has built a considerable roster of celebrity clients. The CoLab Beauty Group is a testament to Rachel’s passion, where she has created a dedicated team that lives and breathes beauty, professionalism and collaboration.

See below some tips and tricks I asked Rachel to share that I had questions on and thought I’d share with all of you!

What are five makeup mistakes people typically make that they can avoid?

1. If you want to do a smokey eye, start with the eyes, contrary to popular thought about doing the face first. Do the smokey eye first to avoid removing excess makeup under the eye area. When you are using darker shadow it will fall under the eye, at least it's on bare skin and not skin you've already applied make-up too. It reduces the need for touch-ups + less waste.

2. Make sure the base color or foundation color on your face matches your neck. It's super important to have the face and neck blend. From there you can add concealer, highlight and bronzer as needed to create a more balanced look.

3. Don't just put eyeliner on your waterline without setting it with a powder or eyeshadow. One technique is always start with a cream and set it with a powder/eyeshadow over eyeliner, this will intensify the look and make it last all day.

4. Don't skip curling your lashes! Curling your lashes really opens up your eyes. Hold down the eyelash curler for 3-5 seconds. You can also move the curler over different sections of your eyelashes if you need too. Then, put on your mascara. Wowza!

5. Don't be afraid to do more than lipstick. Try out a lip liner, which has a wackier formula and helps the lipstick define the lips + lock in the color. If you don't want to use a lip liner, you can use a liquid lipstick to help you define your lips. You'll find that your lip color will be longer lasting. Kiss proof too!

What are five essential skin care tips that you live by?

1. Drink a lot of water. That's the most important thing in skincare. If anyone is having any issues with their skin, take notice of how much water you are consuming. Skin is the largest organ in the body so hydration is essential.

2. Have a skin ritual that promotes self care. We hold a lot of stress in our face and to help with anti aging and lymphatic drainage, spend time developing a ritual that will not only cleanse the skin, but nurture the skin. You will see that it effects your overall health. Think of doing certain steps and also think of a positive affirmation that you can say to yourself while cleansing.

For example in the evening, I will wash my face (if wearing make-up I'll do a double cleanse), sometimes I use a make-up wipe, or I also use something called Croon, which is a reusable sponge to help exfoliate (love using something biodegradable that I can repurpose). I finish with a facial serum of rose hip seed oil and end with a facial moisturizer. Some mantras that I use are:

My body is nourished from the inside out.

I breath in love + acceptance and exhale fear + doubt.

I am grateful for all the abundance in my life.

3. Always wear sunscreen! For any time, skin type and skin tone! The effects of UVA and UVB over extended time are damaging. If you are a parent, start using sunscreen early on your kids so that it becomes a habit. Two of my favorite sunscreens are Purlisse Blue Lotus SPF and an amazing sunscreen that I recommend for darker skin tones is Black Girl sunscreen. It blends into the skin so beautifully.

4. If you have oily skin, don't be afraid to use a serum or an oil because you feel like it's going to make you more oily. It's actually going to make your skin more balanced. One that I personally use is Evan Healy, Chilean Rose Hip Seed Oil. Rose hip oil will help take down inflammation, help with fine lines and hydrate the skin. It's really a well rounded product.

5. You've probably heard this one before, but never sleep in your make-up. Always be sure to cleanse at night and moisturize at night. Your skin cells regenerate at night so it's important to have clean skin!

What's your one must have on your face? I can’t leave the house without curling my lashes and some lipgloss or lipstick on my lips. What's the one thing makeup wise for you?

For me personally, it's mascara. It’s a game changer. I like how it opens up my eyes especially since I have light eyelashes. Also, a make-up artist tip: If you are lacking full eyelashes and you like a bold brow, make sure you do mascara to create a balanced look.

Any fun summer trends you are loving and any fall trends you are seeing coming up?

I think this is an ongoing trend for life or a hack I live by. It's what I call my Fresh & Happy Summer Look. If you want to do a bold bright lipstick, take a little of the lip color onto your finger and blend it into your cheeks. It completes the look and it makes your look dewy, fresh and natural. Another trend, I'm seeing a lot on my social media is geometric shapes on the eyes. This is using eyeliner esp neon colors. to create an avant-garde pattern. I love how this adds a really playful element to any look! An everlasting Fall trend that you can't go wrong with is using berries, browns and pumpkin colors into your make-up routine. These more muted earthy tones look incredible on everyone! These are universal shades that are complementary to Mother Earth.

When is the best/appropriate age to introduce your children to beauty products? Any items that you love that are kid friendly?

It's so personal what age is appropriate for you and your family. Starting a conversation early on is important for me as a parent. Introducing your kids to different ways of thinking and self expression. Makeup is playful! Meaning it's not to alter or necessarily change, but it's about creativity, which is a fun way to express ourselves. My son always notices when I do my makeup, and I adore sharing my craft with him. Recently for Hanukkah and Christmas, I put together a mini makeup kit for my four & six year old nieces that included gel glitter, a little bit of a lip gloss that was sheer with a bit of sparkle and colored eyeliner. Those are some fun items especially the glitter that any child would enjoy.

I absolutely loved the look you did on me while on the set of Home & Family. What were some of the products you used to get this look?

Preen’s Whimsical Summer Solstice Make-Up Is Your Festival Beauty Look Sorted

If there's one brand that has 'ethereal summer solstice fairy witch', aka our go-to festival look, totally down, it's Preen by Thornton Bregazzi.

Known for their effortless take on modern romantic dressing, the designer duo are basically responsible for every summer wedding guest trend to hit our wardrobes for the past two decades.

This time? They've turned their talents to the only festival beauty look you need this year.

Setting up home at the V&A for one day only as part of a summer solstice-themed Fashion In Motion retrospective, Preen sent models storming down the runway (complete with pressed flower stained glass windows) adorned with the prettiest hair and make-up ever.

'I'm creating two looks that represent the dichotomy of femininity,' explained Global Senior Artist for MAC Cosmetics, Dominic Skinner, backstage. 'The first look is very raw with a waft of witchiness. I'm drawing pagan symbols on the models' fingers, foreheads, all over their face, it depends on the look. I wanted them to feel uncomfortably placed - primal.'

How to recreate the tattoo-like look? 'I'm using liquid eyeliner to draw the symbols wherever I feel they need to go,' Dominic told ELLE. 'Then on the eyes I'm using a coffee coloured pencil and blending an ochre shade from the MAC Art Library over the lids. Ochre was one of the first ever colours used to paint with so it feels appropriately primal.'

10 Breathtaking Goth Makeup Looks You Need to Try

Dramatic, dark, and glamorous goth makeup is probably one of my favorite makeup styles to choose from. Despite being pretty unwearable (unless you are a full-time goth!), gothic makeup looks are always appealing and eye-catching. This style has the power to transform not only your eyes in a matter of seconds but a whole outfit and even your personality! Below you will find 10 breathtaking goth makeup looks, that you should try. From classic smokey eyes with colorful accents, to intricate tribal motifs – which one of these gorgeous looks will match your inner darkness?

#1. Black Smokey Eye with Purple Accent

Let's begin with the classiest of them all – a dramatic black smokey eye with a bright purple accent in the inner corner of the eye. The blacker is your eyeshadow, and the darker will be your gothic makeup. Use an eyeshadow primer or creamy eye kohl instead of the primer to create a base for your eyeshadow. Apply the black eyeshadow and blend it on your crease, dragging the shadow a bit upwards.

Use a pencil brush dipped in nude or gray eyeshadow to help you with the blending. The final touch – a purple highlighter on the inner corner, to give your goth eye look a twist.

#2. Crimson Eye Look with Dramatic Eyeliner

Something is tempting and irresistible about the red smoky eye look. It gives me the strongest vampire vibe, making it an excellent choice for a gothic soul. For this look, you`ll need two shades of red: a darker one for the lid, and a lighter for blending. If you don't have a lighter red, you can use nude eyeshadow or even powder. Blend the shadows, apply the boldest eyeliner you can, and add a pair of false lashes, and your crimson gothic eye look is done!

#3. Coffee Brown Smoky Eye with Black Lips

If a dramatic goth makeup look is something you are definitely willing to try, but you are not sure if you can pull it off, I suggest you start with something less challenging. Like this coffee brown smokey eye paired with a black matte lip.

Brown shades look more natural on the skin, and you won't have any trouble blending them together with nude, orange, and gray shades. Apply coffee brown eyeshadow, blend it, and add some eyeliner. A dramatic and bold lip look will complete this stunning goth makeup.

#4. Gothic Green Eye Makeup with Glitter

It is time to be bold and adventurous, as the next makeup look is otherworldly! Certainly, it is not for beginners and demands some practice to be executed neatly. The two main complications here: are the wing-like shape of the green matte eyeshadow and the glitter on the lid. You'll need a special glitter primer to make your gothic sparkles last longer on the eyelid. Pair your goth eye look with black or maybe dark-green matte lips and you are done!

#5. Aesthetic Gothic Makeup with White Eyebrows

For the melancholics out there I found this dark aesthetic makeup look. Just like a previous gothic look, this may demand some serious makeup skills and extra supplies: thin chains, lash glue, white paint, concealer, and a pair of black circle lenses.

Use a thin brush with matte red eyeshadow or blush to create a blushed contouring around your nose, lips, and under the eyes. A few thin chains that look like tears will decorate the look and black circle lenses will make your eye look bigger and sadder.

#6. Neon Pink Gothic Eye Look with Long Lashes

The next look is definitely a mixture of glam, goth, and Barbie. It is both cute and dangerous! If you have a neon pink hair color it will look twice as striking. Apply pink eyeshadow, and blinding highlighter to the brow bone and inner corners, and line your eyes with black eyeliner.

The main feature of the look should be long, curled false lashes. For the lips – glossy black lipstick. I have a few useful makeup tips for you that will help you to pull the dark lipstick off. How do you like this neon pink goth look?

#7. Cool-toned Goth Makeup Look with Blue Lips

Cyber goth anyone? I love the way this makeup looks. It is pretty low-key, but, paired with icy-blue lenses, it reminds me of the Snow Queen somehow. You know, the one from the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. An icy, goth look is definitely provided by the dark-blue, slightly dusty lip look, which you can achieve by applying eyeshadow to your lips. Keep the shadows and mascara on the top eyelid to give this goth look extra crispiness.

#8. Daring Tribal Eyeliner and Soul-eater Lips

I don't know how about you, but I always loved the Wiccan aesthetic. This gothic makeup look with intricate tribal eyeliner reminds me of warpaint or pagan motifs. This is a high-level makeup, for sure. To create the most accurate and neat lines like this, you'll need a lasting black eyeliner, it is better to opt for liquid eyeliner. A couple of thin synthetic brushes will help you to draw every single line beautifully. For the lips use a soul-eater lip technique, which is characterized by the smudged, freshly-kissed lip look.

#9. Split Goth Makeup Look and Sharp Eyeliner

The early and mid-80s was the time when the Goth subculture emerged from the British underground. It is known as the classic Goth era and has a lot of distinguished characteristics loved and cherished by the old-fashioned goths.

It wouldn't be fair to create this list of breathtaking goth makeup looks without including this split purple and green goth eye makeup. It was strongly inspired by the classic Goth decade and, together with the accessories and hair, created a wonderful character. Doesn't it?

#10. Toxic Waste Goth Makeup Look

And, finally, to wrap up this compilation, check out this acid-yellow and green gothic look with triple eyeliner and dramatic yellow contouring. I called it toxic waste, which is the name of sweet and sour candy. The key to this look is blending and highlighting. It creates a very special, radiant glow on the skin. A sharp eyeliner with weird yellow lenses will make you look like an odd creature from another plant. Would you dare to wear this gothic makeup look?

Let's wrap up.

Do you feel inspired after this makeup compilation? Because I surely am! The allure of Goth makeup lies in its shadows and secrets. The possibilities for creative makeup enthusiasts are endless. Dive deeper into the world of the macabre, and discover the endless depths of your own dark beauty. Good luck with the brush!

Some pagans may also use natural materials such as leaves, flowers, or crystals in their makeup looks, either by incorporating them into their design or using them as accessories. Another popular element in pagan makeup is the use of symbolism. Pagans often work with various symbols and sigils that hold personal meaning to them.

Pagan makeup ideas

These symbols can be incorporated into makeup looks using face paint, glitter, or even temporary tattoos. Some common symbols used in pagan practices include pentagrams, moons, suns, and various other ancient symbols. Makeup looks inspired by mythology and folklore are also common in pagan makeup. Many pagans feel a strong connection to their ancestry and draw inspiration from ancient mythology and folklore. This can be reflected in their makeup looks through the use of bold colors, dramatic lines, and intricate designs. For example, a pagan inspired by Celtic mythology may incorporate Celtic knots or symbols into their makeup, while someone inspired by Norse mythology may incorporate runes or Viking-inspired designs. Ultimately, pagan makeup ideas are all about individual expression and embracing your connection to nature and spirituality. Whether you prefer earthy colors, symbolic designs, or mythological themes, pagan makeup allows you to explore your personal beliefs and celebrate your unique identity. So, feel free to get creative and incorporate these ideas into your own makeup routine to reflect your pagan spirituality..
