The North Dakota State Fairgrounds will host Motor Magic, Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-7, in Minot.

This year's free events include an SCCA Auto Cross, historic military vehicle display, Classic Car Auction and a vintage racing snowmobile display. Paid admission events and races include Nodak Speedway races, an Enduro Race, Demolition Derby, drag races on the Magic City International Dragway and the Dakota Cruisers Classic Car Show. Back for 2009, licensed drivers age 16 and up can learn firsthand the impact that driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol can have on a driver. The Simulated Impaired Driving Experience is a battery-powered vehicle that has a delay in its reaction time, simulating the effects of impairment from driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. SIDNE event organizer Jerry Black believes that this is a powerful, eye-opening exhibit. SIDNE is a free event sponsored by the Dakota Cruisers.

Motor Magic closes out season at Playground of Power

A who’s who of dirt track drivers from across North Dakota and beyond came out to Nodak Speedway for three nights of racing to close out the season this past weekend. The weekend was part of the annual Motor Magic program and also the speedway induct its 2023 hall of fame class.

Friday night saw familiar faces finding victory lane, as three of this season’s track champions won. Caden Appelt took the IMCA Hobby Stock feature, Travis Hagen won the ICMA Modified and Gabriel Deschamp took the IMCA Northern Sportmod division.

Mandan’s Shawn Strand claimed the IMCA Stock Car win.

Hagen continued his strong season, sweeping all three Modified features during the weekend on his way to capturing the Modified division’s Gooseneck Harvest Classic from the weekend’s events.

There were other multiple winners on the weekend. Diezel Raynard took wins on Saturday and Sunday in the Hobby Stock division, while his brother was calling the races for the Darn TV broadcasts. Rich Pavelick won the Northern Sportmods the last two nights as well.

Fans witnessed the next generation of racers come out to compete in the Junior Slingshot division. Ten year-old Hudson Mann won both races on the weekend in the first feature while Karver Balerud won the second feature on Saturday and Brook Ones took the checkered flag on Sunday.
