Maria the witch was known throughout the village for her mysterious powers and spells. She lived alone on the outskirts of town, in a small cottage surrounded by a dense forest. Many people were afraid of her, believing that she used her powers for evil. However, there were some who sought her help when they were desperate or in need. Maria was not like the typical witches portrayed in fairy tales. She was kind-hearted and had a deep understanding of herbs and potions.

Cute visuals can't prevent Maria the Witch from being anything other than an incredibly lazy port of an already mediocre and generic mobile clone. A derivative, boring and regularly frustrating experience that has had no care applied in bringing it to Nintendo Switch. The laborious gameplay and obtuse controls, combined with bland, uninspired level design and by-the-numbers progression, reduce it to being one of the most disposable titles on the system. Don't let the admittedly pleasant art style fool you - Maria the Witch really isn't worth taking for a spin.

I just wanted to be in control, or to feel in control, of Maria far more than I did. Now to go and lie down before I have nightmares of flying my broomstick into yet another wall.

What it will likely come down to to the individual player will be the control and the pretty unforgiving big picture level design. Controlling Maria’s thrust and momentum, in particular, when needing to pause or maneuver can be a bit maddening, especially when paired with her pretty wide turn radius when looping. It just never feels very tight, though I’d imagine that’s the idea. Pairing that with a checkpoint system that can be hit and miss in sections you’ll either enjoy and embrace the challenge Maria the Witch presents or just move on and find something else to play since that’s all there is to the game.

To their surprise, Maria greeted them with a warm smile and open arms. Maria listened to the parents' concerns and examined Anna carefully. After a few moments of thought, she prepared a potion and instructed the parents on how to administer it. They returned home filled with hope, convinced that Maria could cure their daughter. Days turned into weeks, and Anna's health slowly improved. The village watched in awe as Maria's healing powers once again worked their magic. News of Anna's recovery quickly spread through the village, changing the perception of Maria. The villagers began to question their previous assumptions about Maria the witch. They saw firsthand the good she was capable of and the positive impact she had on their community. Slowly, the fear and mistrust dissipated, replaced by gratitude and admiration. Maria's reputation as a witch took on a whole new meaning. She became known as the village healer, someone who could be relied upon in times of need.
