Magic Penny

Notes: words and music by Malvina Reynolds; copyright 1955 and 1958 Northern Music Corporation, renewed 1986. a.k.a. "Love Is Something." Despite the later copyright dates, this song was actually written while Malvina's daughter was at a junior high school dance, so around 1949.

Love is something if you give it away,
Give it away, give it away.
Love is something if you give it away,
You end up having more.

It's just like a magic penny,
Hold it tight and you won't have any.
Lend it, spend it, and you'll have so many
They'll roll all over the floor.

For love is something if you give it away,
Give it away, give it away.
Love is something if you give it away,
You end up having more.

Money's dandy and we like to use it, 1
But love is better if you don't refuse it.
It's a treasure and you'll never lose it
Unless you lock up your door.

For love is something if you give it away,
Give it away, give it away.
Love is something if you give it away,
You end up having more.

So let's go dancing till the break of day,
And if there's a piper, we can pay.
For love is something if you give it away,
You end up having more.

For love is something if you give it away,
Give it away, give it away.
Love is something if you give it away,
You end up having more.

Additional note
1. There was orginally a bridge at this point: They said Dont play with fire,/Once burned, twice shy,/But now Ive played with fire/And all I want to do is fry but Malvina was asked to change it when the song was used in a beach movie. She substituted "Moneys dandy and we like to use it. " and the song was copyrighted that way. Judy Fjell sings Moneys dandy if you like to use it. one of the few changes to Malvinas songs, other than updating sexist language, that improves on the original. But then, the original Judy was working from wasnt the original thought, but a rewrite for somebody elses requirements.

"Magical Sing Song was a complete disappointment. The plot was confusing and lacked depth, and the characters were one-dimensional and unrelatable. The songs were forgettable, and the singing performances were subpar. Overall, I found the movie dull and unenjoyable. I would not recommend it to anyone seeking a captivating and entertaining musical experience."
2. Kevin - 2 stars
"I had high hopes for Magical Sing Song, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The storyline was predictable, and the dialogues were clichéd. The musical numbers felt forced and out of place, disrupting the flow of the movie. Additionally, the acting was mediocre, failing to engage me emotionally. While it had a few redeeming moments, overall, I would not consider it a must-watch."
3. Emily - 2 stars
"Magical Sing Song had a promising premise but failed to deliver on its potential. The pacing was uneven, with certain scenes dragging on while others felt rushed. The character development was poor, leaving me feeling disconnected from the protagonists. While some of the songs were catchy, they weren't enough to salvage the film. I was left disappointed and underwhelmed by the overall execution."
