I ll be honest, if I switch into the mindset that what I m about to drink is NOT a beer, then the concept of a cider isn t the worst thing in the world. Since I was little I ve loved having a glass with my Eggo waffles in the morning, but unfortunately that is where my relationship with apple based beverages ends.

Alcoholic Sugar Drink Review: CiderBoys Strawberry Magic

Admittedly, this one is a stretch for me. I’m not sure how this will play, but let’s go for it; a cider review on a fragile, young, and extremely beautiful beer review site. Intro CiderBoys Hard Cider, a Stevens Point, WI manufacturer of everything fruity tooty cider. They have many-a-flavor for your enjoyment, including anything from a mimosa flavored cider, to apple cinnamon, and pretty much any berry you can think of. If you’ve already stopped reading this, it’s okay. Please check out any of No Bullshit Brews other great reviews such as Flying Dog Family Drama or Terrapin Moo-Hoo. If you’re still with me, I’m going to give an objective-as-possible review of this concoction, mainly to see why an individual would choose this over literally any beer. And in case you’re wondering why I got the strawberry one it’s because I like strawberries. Let’s just get to it.

Appearance: No head whatsoever. This looks like it should be served in a box with a straw and holy shit I know we’re not at aroma yet but it is so smelly I’ve stopped caring what it looks like. Could be straight out of an Apple & Eve bottle.

Aroma: I smelled this one before I saw it. If you run that through your head there are few scenarios where that ends up being a positive statement. It smells like a strawberry Pop-Tart (sorry Pop-Tarts) and a Tony Montana-sized pile of confectionery sugar. This may just be a sugar bomb folks. Just a warning to anyone who may try this, sugar may lead to zits on your face and also infidelity, under the right circumstances.

Taste: I don’t want to but I’m going to drink this whole fucking thing, to prove I’m a man. A man sticks to his commitments, he follows through on his promises and this entire smelly diabetes probe is going to be sitting in my belly. I’m not lying, it’s sweet. It’s Mott’s with a healthy portion of strawberry-flavored Pixy Stix dumped in. There’s also a Jolly Rancher type aftertaste that sticks to your tongue. If you’re into this kind of sweet stuff more power to you, go for it, but I’m guessing this is a huge boner kill for beer drinkers nationwide.

Crushability: Here could be one positive I’ll grant this sugar water. If you pop a cap off and close your eyes and chug, you can get them down fairly easily. The main roadblock you’re going to find is that gigantically-sweet explosion that not everyone can stomach. Proceed at your own risk.

Booziness: I can’t think of an easier drink to hide alcohol in than a sugar snow cone like Strawberry Magic. Gus Fringe took lessons on how to transport his hidden meth from CiderBoys hiding its 5% ABV in 500,000 g of sugar. This is as boozy as Lena Dunham is attractive. How about we rate this and get out of here…

Rating: I’m a big apple juice guy. Since I was little I’ve loved having a glass with my Eggo waffles in the morning, but unfortunately that is where my relationship with apple based beverages ends. I’ll be honest, if I switch into the mindset that what I’m about to drink is NOT a beer, then the concept of a cider isn’t the worst thing in the world. But why make it so damn sugary?? The sweetness overwhelmed me throughout the review but hey it’s 2018, I’m open to trying another cider (in at least 6 months) if they don’t throw in so much sugar (27 grams… that’s not a joke). I’m not condemning the entire style, but for now, this drink/potion/swill is Bullshit.
