Moon Goddess Magic
For witches, the moon is a goddess who rules the ebb and flow of the tides of the sea, the phases of life, women’s monthly cycles, childbirth, the emotions, magic and psychic powers. She has had many names – Artemis, Selene, Diana, Luna, Devana, and many more. Just like the phases of the moon, some moon goddesses are virginal and chaste, some are fertile mothers, and some are aged crones, reflecting the whole cycle of a woman’s life. In our tradition, we have the maiden of the waxing moon, the full moon mother, the crone of the waning moon, and the dark mother of the dark moon.

Our ancient Pagan ancestors celebrated the gods and goddesses of the moon. They regulated their calendars by the phases of the moon and held ritual to celebrate its cycles. Witches collected certain herbs by moonlight, planted according to the phases of the moon, divined and cast spells by the phases of the moon, and met under the full moon to perform magic.
When we work with the power of the moon, connecting with its goddess, when we work magic according to its phases, we access the alchemy of change, mystery, personal transformation, spiritual power, life and death.
MOON PHASES FOR MAGIC
Particular moon phases are used for very different rituals and magic. It has four phases – waxing, full, waning and dark.
Waxing (Maiden)
The waxing (growing) moon begins as a slender bow in the sky, gradually broadening out over the next two weeks. Waxing moon energy concerns growth, increase and surging power. It is a time for beginnings, things that will grow to fullness in the future. It is a good time for starting new projects, new relationships and for planting. It is time for making plans; laying a foundation, making positive changes, healing emotional issues. Anything you do to strengthen your body, to fortify yourself, is much more effective that when the moon is waxing.
Full Moon (Mother)
For three days the moon reaches its pregnant fullness, maximum strength and energy. It celebrates the fertile, positive, creative forces in the world and is used for positive magic – healing, blessing, love, friendship, success, scrying and other psychic work, initiation, consecrating magical tools, and charging potions under the moon. Psychic and magical skills are enhanced by the full moon.
Waning Moon (Crone)
The waning (shrinking) moon follows the three days of the full moon, and its energy ebbs and starts to draw inwards, the right-hand side vanishing bit by bit until she becomes a silver sickle in the night sky. The magic of the waning moon is concerned with diminishing, with winding down, letting go of bad habits and negative thinking, purification, banishing and cleansing magic.
Dark Moon (Dark Mother)
For three days, the moon is swallowed by darkness. But just as all life generates in the darkness of the womb or seeds in the dark earth, during this dark phase, the moon mystically regenerates itself and begins life anew; within the darkness, all potentials are contained. This is the time of the Dark Mother, whose mystical power is endless. The days of the dark moon are good for deep inner journeys; now is not the time to act, but to retreat, think and meditate. You may find that your dreams and intuitions are very powerful at this time; the Otherworld may be trying to break through with small signs and unexpected encounters that you should take note of.

1. John Doe - 1/5 - I had high hopes for Magic Springs attractions, but I was thoroughly disappointed. The rides were outdated and poorly maintained. Many of them were closed for repairs or were just not operating at all. The park was also incredibly crowded, making it difficult to enjoy any of the attractions without long waits. The staff seemed disinterested and unhelpful. Overall, it was a waste of time and money, and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a fun day out.
