Unfortunately, L'Oreal Magic Nude Foundation bares the same curse as the other Liquid-Powder formulas made by L'Oreal owned companies which is a very high amount of Alcohol.

Alcohol is extremely damaging to skin and has been proven to destroy new cell growth at rates of 26% when applied once daily for two day. and that's in concentrations of only 3%. It's impossible to know for sure, but L'Oreal Magic Nude is probably in concentrations of about 15% since it's the ingredient present in the 4th largest quantity.

The good news with alcohol (as opposed to fragrance and irritating ingredients), is that alcohol evaporates. It's not the best idea to let the alcohol dry on your skin, but you can evaporate the alcohol prior to use and then you're left with a safe product that performs well; you just have to decide if it performs well enough to warrant the extra hassle.

To get rid of the alcohol, you can do one of two things. You can either A) leave the bottle undisturbed for a few days, pour out the clear fluid that rises to the top (that's the alcohol), and then leave out for another couple of hours to make sure any residual alcohol has evaporated or B) move L'Oreal Magic Nude into a different wide-mouthed bottle or jar and leave it out for a few days. The wider and shallower the container's opening, the faster you will have results.

Because L'Oreal doesn't make any skincare claims with Magic Nude (aside from the bogus SPF 18 which doesn't provide UVA protection since Octinoxate is the only active ingredient) so you don't have to worry about exposing any unstable ingredients to air or light so the only potential change in formula or performance, is the fact that Magic Nude will thicken up by about 20% and you will lose some of the blending time the alcohol provided during application. Plus, the price for the foundation increases in a sense because you're suddenly left with only 3/4 of an ounce for $13 so the real price per ounce is about $17.50- a bit steep for a drugstore foundation! Overall it's a huge pain to have to deal with, but if you really want to try Magic Nude, these steps are worth it to protect your skin

Performance itself is a plus with L'Oreal Magic Nude Foundation and it can easily hold its own against many Liquid to Powder formulas, (especially L'Oreal brand formulas). Magic Nude blends beautifully and provides very natural looking light-medium coverage with a matte finish, making it best for normal-oily-slightly dry skin types. The shade range is one of Magic Nude's more impressive features with a range of 12 well chosen shades that range from neutral- neutral warm- neutral cool undertones which should suit fair-deep skin tones, and resist oxidation far better than the sister brand options.

There are certainly some good things to be said for L'Oreal Magic Nude Foundation like the shade rage, the performance, and the fact that its fragrance free, but it has just as many checks in the negative column so you will want to consider carefully if it's worth it.

If you are dead-set on trying a Liquid-Powder Foundation from one of the L'Oreal companies, this is probably your best best. If you're less set on the brand but want to try a Liquid-Powder foundation, there are some great Cruelty Free options out there such as Becca Ever Matte Shine Proof Foundation, Hourglass Immaculate Liquid-Powder Foundation or even Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Dark Spot Correcting Serum Foundation (which has only a trivial amount of the alcohol of L'Oreal Magic Nude).

Reviews for "The Revolution of Liquid Powder: L'Oreal Magic Mud"

- Sarah - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the L'Oreal Magic Mudr Liquid Powder. First of all, the packaging was not practical at all. The product comes in a tube, but it's really difficult to control the amount that comes out. I always ended up with way too much product on my fingers. Secondly, the texture of the product is weird. It's supposed to be a liquid powder, but it just felt sticky and didn't blend well into my skin. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this product.
- Emily - 1 star - The L'Oreal Magic Mudr Liquid Powder was a complete waste of money for me. I have oily skin and was looking for a mattifying product, but this one did absolutely nothing to control shine. Not only that, but it made my skin look worse; it emphasized my pores and made my foundation look patchy. I tried using it with different foundations and primers, but nothing worked. I was really disappointed and would not repurchase this product.
- Jessica - 3 stars - I had high hopes for the L'Oreal Magic Mudr Liquid Powder, but it fell short for me. While it did help to control shine, it didn't last very long. Within a couple of hours, my skin was shiny again and I had to reapply the product. Additionally, I found that it made my skin feel dry and tight, especially around my cheeks. I think this product might work better for someone with oily skin, but for me, it just didn't work well enough.
