The seashore witch summit took place on a sunny afternoon in a hidden cove along the coast. Witches from all around gathered to discuss matters of magic and enchantment by the sea. The main theme of the summit was the importance of preservation and protection of the seashore. Participants of the summit shared their knowledge and experiences on topics such as oceanic spells, water magic, and the healing properties of seashells and seaweed. They emphasized the need for responsible practices when collecting magical artifacts from the sea, reminding everyone to take only what is necessary and to never disrupt the balance of marine ecosystems. The witches also shared stories of their encounters with sea spirits and the wisdom they have gained from the ancient creatures of the deep.

Counterspell can counter a spell while it is being cast, the spell level of the spell being countered doesn't matter. It can not be used to counter spell like abilities, or supernatural ones.

I think there are two distinct uses of the Dispel Magic spell here the main one, usable to dispel an on-going spell effect such as bull s strength that had previously been cast, and the secondary one, counterspelling a spell as it is being cast. If an object or creature who is the effect of an ongoing spell, such as a monster summoned by monster summoning, is in the area, the character makes a dispel check to end the spell that conjured the object or creature returning it whence it came in addition to attempting to dispel spells targeting the creature or object.

The witches also shared stories of their encounters with sea spirits and the wisdom they have gained from the ancient creatures of the deep. They spoke of the connections between the moon, tides, and the power of their spells, highlighting the importance of embracing the natural rhythms of the ocean in their magical practices. Additionally, the summit touched upon the threats faced by the seashore, such as pollution and coastal development.

You're Using Dispel Magic Wrong

Okay, I don't exactly know if you are using Dispel Magic incorrectly, but I have seen this issue come up in every group I've been in.

Dispel Magic is a popular spell, every spellcasting class (except Ranger) has access to this spell, and it is a great way to protect yourself from enemy spells. It is often mentioned that Dispel Magic only works with spells, you can't un-enchant a magical sword you find, however one thing that's often overlooked is how many spells it can end. According to the PHB, "Any spell of 3rd level or lower on the target ends. For each spell of 4th level or higher on the target, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability." Dispel magic isn't a one for one spell like counter spell, it can end any spell on what you target.
To exemplify this, lets set up an example, the party is about to fight an evil wizard they've been hunting for some time, since their fighter is their main damage dealer, they want to buff him up and protect him so he can stay in the fight. The cleric casts Aid to give him some more health, as well as Freedom of Movement and Death Ward to make sure he won't go down or get tied up, finally the cleric casts Holy Weapon on the fighter's sword for that sweet, sweet radiant damage. Then the wizard steps in and casts Haste, because if there's one thing the fighter needs, it's more attacks per turn. Now the fighter is ready for the fight, they bust the door down and roll Initiative.

The evil wizard goes first, seeing the fighter practically glowing with magic, he casts Dispel Magic at 3rd Level, so what happens? Well, assuming it isn't counter-spelled, immediately, the fighter loses his Aid and Haste, the evil wizard must make separate rolls for Death Ward and FoM, DC 14 for each. However, the fighter keeps the Holy Weapon because that targets his weapon, not the fighter himself.

So a 3rd level spell slot, takes out a 2nd, 3rd, and possibly 2 4th level spell slots. Dispel Magic is strong, you should take it on your spell list, unless you're a ranger, in which case you have other troubles.

Anyone have any interesting stories with how they've used Dispel Magic, or any homebrew adjustments they make with it? How do you prefer to use it?

The witches discussed ways in which they could use their magic to protect the seashore from harm, such as conducting rituals to cleanse the waters and send positive energy to marine life. They vowed to use their powers for good and to be guardians of the seashore. The seashore witch summit served as a reminder of the profound connection between witches and the sea. It highlighted the need for witchcraft practitioners to be responsible stewards of the seashore, using their magic to protect and restore its beauty. By coming together and sharing their knowledge, the witches hoped to inspire others to join their cause and work towards a healthier, more harmonious coexistence with the sea..
